Clarify this trick please

I know this wasnt on scam school but i figured you guys could help anyways.

This is a criss angel trick where he predicts what cards will come up. I follow what hes saying until the point where he says you can take cards from the top bottom or middle, to me that seems like you wouldnt be able to find the cards you need, any help? Thanks

i figured it out!! you just have to make sure they pick the pile they started and to stack them accordingly, everyone should try this, i just blew my brothers mind. throw some bs at the end like "say the magic words or something" haha

I tried some card tricks last night and this one BY FAR got me the best reaction.

I took off the two top cards (the only main cards) to explain to him how to do it. This guy was a real smartass so hes likes "hey ill just pick one, do some magic now" and i was like ok, bet me a cigarette my predictions will be the same, and sure enough they were :)
