So what are those green squares next to our usernames?
Edit:I see that it is "reputation" but anyone want to elaborate on this? What it means?

Not a huge fan myself, but it was turned on this morning. It might stay, it might go. We'll see.
BTW - You can also subtract reputation as well if someone is really being as ass.

Reputation really doesn't seem to work at all on message boards. It's just a popularity contest - popular users will constantly get +Repped by people just because they like them, not necessarily because they're adding to the discussion. People tend to only -Rep when in an argument/debate with someone and they disagree with what they say.
Sometimes it can be a decent gauge of troublesome members... the points will add up quickly against someone who is disruptive, but by the time a staff member notices someones reputation decreasing that much, chances are they've already seen plenty of posts from that person or received complaints about them.
And along with all that, regulars and "good" posters tend to just forget about it. It's not like it really makes any difference, but if I see a great post by Klitzy or someone, my first thought isn't going to be adding to their reputation.

Joking aside, it really is the truth about reputation. On a message board I used to frequent, the first user to reach the highest level of reputation was shown to be someone who was banned on another message board for spamming and being a troublemaker. But he came to the new boards, everybody liked him being he was so "witty" and "funny" and every post of his he would get +rep just for posting.
Meanwhile, I was customer support on the forums and would literally spend hours working with users fixing their problems, and only had around 150 rep points(starting from 15 points).

Yes, I added this earlier this morning. It's a feature that a lot of the mods, and members alike, have been requesting for a long time. I figured we could try it, and see how it works out for a while. :)
Next on my list...fixing quick reply, and some of the other options. :)

You should already be able to do this. You don't see a "Rate Thread" menu at the top of each topic, next to the "thread options" and "search thread" menus?

Um, who thought this is a good idea? It opens the board up to being a popularoty contest or a way for jerks to be jerks in a new way. I favor this being something reserved for the mods to do.

It would be hard to abuse, because there are restrictions on how often a user can be "rated", how many times you can rate in a given time period, how many posts a user must have before the ratings count, and restrictions on how long you must wait before rating the same people again.

So I see my points number and the whole deal. I have been left some rep and when I am left good rep a green dot shows up and it have a comment like +nice comment but then others are black dots but they also have like +nice comment, or funny man or something. So both are positive comments but why is one green and the other black?

You can leave a comment on a post, and not give it +/- rep.

It's most likely rep given to you from someone who doesn't meet the requirements to give out reputation points. It still shows that someone gave you +rep, but you didn't actually gain points from it.

You can't spam someone's reputation, so it's only going to be effected if someone is an ass ALL the time.

Exactly. :)
Anyone can leave rep, but if someone leaves you rep who doesn't meet the requirements, like a certain post count, or any of the other minimum requirements, you'll still receive the comment, but his/her rating doesn't hurt you, or help you. It's a neutral rating.

It's a neat feature in theory, but I've never been part of a vbulletin community where it didn't descend into madness over rep points. Heed my words, you'll see!
Back end karma by mods FTW!

Is it so hard not be an ass? It amazes me how many chaff over the prospect of exercising a little self-control. In any case, It seems to be that a single user is not going to be able to spoil the rep of another user easily.

The people speaking out against the reputation are not (I'm assuming) doing so because they're afraid of people giving them negative rep. I personally am not for it because it's rarely used properly period and it becomes a popularity contest where people give + and - rep simply to people they like and dislike, not due to the content of their post(s).

What Casework is trying to say is.....
No one likes him but he is overly confident and knows that he has the most sensible and intelligent posts. On the other hand, Klitzy posts out of his ass yet still has the highest rep on the board
*Klitzy realizes by just saying that....Tens of thousands of negative reps are flying his way*
Its okay Casework...I like you
+Rep given to Casework for pity
