...but where did the "Edit" button go in some of my posts? I'm trying to edit this post (http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1274) to add more birthdays, but the button isn't there. Nothing is next to the "Quote" button, nor is there next to any of my posts before today.

Hi Aria,
There were a few things changed today. One of them being, members can now only edit their own posts for up to 12 hours after they post them. If you need that post edited, please PM me, or any of the mods with updates to it, and we'll gladly edit it for you.
Regards,
-Shane

It's done on a lot of other sites, and it's seen just as a security precaution. Say a user gets pissed off at us after a while, they could just go back and remove all their old content and posts from the site. We don't want that, especially if they had submitted some good content. Honestly, 99% of the time, posts will only need to be edited only up to a few minutes after they were posted. Twelve hours is a sufficient amount of time.

Can this be changed for certain posts? Like that b-day thread. Because it will be a pain in the ass for you guys to be getting messages from me frequently pestering you to update it, and it's not really cool if it has to die out because we don't get to keep a running list in one post of birthdays.
All in all, I think this is a crappy policy, and I'm not usually one to criticize policies of forums.

I understand what you're saying. Though, I dont' think it's possible to disable it for specific posts at this time...though I will look into possible ways of doing this in the future. And no worries about "pestering" us. We won't mind editing the thread for you. That's part of our jobs. And if the mods get annoyed with you doing it, don't worry...I won't, so you can contact me to do it. :)

As samureye once said, I'm like a magic genie. Call my name, and I magically appear. ;)
For real though, no worries. I'm here more than you think. Even if I don't always post a ton. So I'll get your messages. :)

This is gonna screw up a couple stickies I maintain as well. Too bad. I guess I can relocate them to another forum.

All right, then go to that thread and add the new birthdays. If I can't do it myself, you keep it up for me. :)

I agree that this seems a bit strange. Has a great contributer to a board ever really gotten upset and deleted all their old posts?
It seems like this is just creating more work for the mods that isn't really necessary. If someone is so immature to get upset at people on a message board and to take the time to go back and erase all their posts... to me, I don't think that person would have been such a great contributer to begin with.

This is gna kill your agenda man... if you spend time determening who's posts are worth editing and then editing them... its gona be crazy and if anything an outcome would be higher bandwidth usage and it will slow the reaction time on the forums...

To be honest, yes. And that's one reason I did it. I've had it happen to me first hand on another site I used to admin. :o

Come on, this seems really silly. You're going to let that one bad experience ruin it for the rest of us? Really, what are the chances of that happening again? I think you've created a fix for a problem that never existed.
I'm so pissed about this, I think I'm going to go delete all my posts right now!! That'll show you! That'll show ALL of you!!
...Aww crap.
