Wow. That isn't something you would expect from a big name, main stream comic. I love it.

They remind me a little of Jonathan Hickman's art. They're nice covers.

They do look like Hickman designs.
Maybe I'll give the series another shot once this Norman Osborn feud ends.

Those are some great covers. And this is the ONLY Marvel book right now where Norman osbourne isn't annoying me with his presence, as he isn't FORCED into the story. His hunting of Stark came naturally from where the story had been before.

Very nice. I just wish the interior art was better.

If you mean better than at the start of the series, it is.

Invincible Iron Man is hardly my favorite book art-wise, but I actually think the art is pretty good. Art is all subjective and all, so if it's not your cup of tea, that's fine and all. Just curious what you don't like about it?

The book does look a lot better than it did in the first arc, but there's something about the coloring that just does not appeal to me. It also kind of bugs me how they use photographs for backgrounds like city skylines or skies or the ocean. I mean, I read it, I like it, but the art is really one of the only things I don't care for. That and the hard feelings about that whole Civil War thing.

Can you expound on that. I've heard that said a lot but I truly don't know what happened or what Stark did. I never read civil war. I wasn't into comics back then.

He forced all super heroes to register into a database that would make all of their secret identities public knowledge which basically split all the heroes into two groups: pro-registration, led by Iron Man, and anti-registration, led by Captain America. By not registering you became a fugitive of the law. So they were hunting down unregistered super heroes and forcing them to register. In the end Cap gives up and goes into custody so nobody else gets hurt leading to his assassination when going to trial.

Yeah, I can see that. On the one hand, I don't really like photographs being used in comics. I notice they do this a lot on Daredevil. But I guess I'll take it if it means the book comes out on time and there actually are backgrounds, not just white spaces where people float around, like in a Liefeld comic. But i would prefer a fully pencilled book, I agree with you on that one. And yeah, the coloring isn't that strong, but it's actually great compared to most Marvel books, where everything is so dark and muddled you can't even tell what's going on.

Everyone but me.
On the art: I'm not a fan of LaRocca at all. If you look at his older work and his current stuff now, it's way different. It has too much photo referencing, the coloring is wacky, and sometimes his figures and framing can be a bit off for me. In terms of drawing Iron Man, I think he does a splendid job. It's just when he has to draw people that bothers me. It's one of the main reasons I don't buy the book and read it at the library when trades hit.
Great covers. I hope they pay off in sales.

Cover kind of reminds me of the cover of George Orwell's Books v. cigarettes.

I'm with John. I don't blame Steve's death on Tony. It was a series of unfortunate events that culminated in his assassination. Tony didn't have his hand on the trigger nor did anyone working for him. So technically speaking, he's not at fault.

Wow.
Absolutely LOVE these covers. Definitely getting a Hickman vibe from these. There are a lot of good covers each week but not that many that would actually jump out at you when you're staring down a wall of new releases but I think these would.

Speaking of amazing iron man covers, does anyone remember this one from back in the day?

When i saw this on the shelf, I could not wait to get it home and see what was inside. This was the epilogue to the classic "Armor Wars" story, and it's an image that has stayed with me throughout my entire life. One of my all-time favorite comic book covers. I even had a t-shirt of this image way back when.

You know I just had the same thought today driving home. I wonder if they had Hickman do some design stuff for them along with his writing...

That is a great cover. I remember it too. Can't remember if BWS drew the inside though.
Oh, and I've been scanning this thread and no one seams to have come up with a name for the person who created those new covers. Any ideas folks 'cos I'd really like to know? They are so cool. Perfect for this book.

He might have a consultant type of position there at Marvel or he expressedsome suggestions during a meeting.

He did do the artwork on the inside, as well as co-writing it. It was a great issue.

I forget the name but credits are given in the back of the latest issue of Iron Man.

Ah, found it. These covers were designed by Rian Hughes. He did a Dan Dare book a few years ago, very stylised look to it, a little retro. Check 'em out here http://devicefonts.co.uk.s73787.gridserver.com/cgi-bin/device3.cgi?action=design

Good things I don't buy comics just on the covers or I'd buy these...when I have no interest in the iron man book.

So I just caught up on this series and I'm so disappointed. The only person I can blame really is Matt Fraction. I haven't read much of his but I can think of 3 specific examples of stupid plot twists in the past year or so.
*spoiler alert*
Utopia - My first experience with Mr Fraction - How stupid was that ending? Who didn't see that coming? I was never convinced that Emma and Namor were on Norman's side. I'm pretty sure I threw my hands up and let out an audible "oh come on, that was pointless" when they revealed their true allegiance.
Invincible Iron Man The Five Nightmares - Zeke: Yay, I killed you Iron Man. Stark: (busts threw the wall and punches him) Of course you didn't kill me! That's just a robot and I'm actually over here... Seriously? Come on. I told myself I wouldn't read World's Most Wanted after that...
Invincible Iron Man World's Most Wanted - Where on Earth did Pepper Potts get a nice black wig to go with her Madame Masque mask in a blown up secret underground Stark Lab? This was such a long arc with a nice ending, but that plot twist? C'mon Fraction, just leave 'em out. You're not M. Night Shyamalan.
I hate that he's writing these 2 big books, Uncanny Xmen and Invincible Iron Man, because they're 2 that I'm very much interested in. He needs to step it up though and go a little bit off the track sometimes or else every time I say I'm never buying a Matt Fraction book I actually won't.
