Adeona (what what I read briefly) should be able to provide the private IP address. However, private IP addresses are 'untraceable' because they are usually in uncontrolled IP ranges. Public IP addresses are traceable to some degree.

If the IP address is in a private address range, the best you can hope for in a trace is the city inwhich the gateway for your ISP resides. For large ISPs that could be multiple cities, depending upon which gateway the route hits first (ie, you might not be routed to the gateway nearest your laptop, you might be routed to the gateway nearest the origination - with everything else being internal to the ISPs network - and hidden from you.

If you read the page you get to after performing a trace using the websit you referenced above you would see this explanation ...

Every device connected to the public Internet is assigned a unique number known as an Internet Protocol (IP) address. IP addresses consist of four numbers separated by periods (also called a 'dotted-quad') and look something like 127.0.0.1.

Since these numbers are usually assigned to internet service providers within region-based blocks, an IP address can often be used to identify the region or country from which a computer is connecting to the Internet. An IP address can sometimes be used to show the user's general location.

If the laptop has a GPS, you might get a more accurate location, but the GPS would need to dial out to a remote location and log its position to be useful.

Trying to get a private ip address without the owners permission allegedly could land you with a hacking charge. Get the closest you can and then let the authorities handle it. The best way to find a laptop is to have it run a homing program in the background before it gets stolen. If someone steals a computer they would be wise not only to change the mac address but to change the os and flash the firmware, if they do change the mac address you may never find the laptop. I do that anyway on free computers given me.

What I can tell you is that
it would make it very difficult
to hide your IP address if you
want to keep using AJAX.

Why would you want your IP private
if then you will not be able and cannot
use any interaction thing on the internet?

The best thing is to use a VPN and use only remote
access to next version Microsoft Versions.

You can also use VNC software on iPhone. QWERTYUIOP
