Alex and Nate have convinced their friend Ray to return home to help them get famous on the Internet. Their first order of business: recording a podcast.
Watch the full episode (http://revision3.com/webzeroes/castaways)and let everyone know what you think!

Really? This is what Rev3 decided to do? Boring, not funny, lame.
Surely this will go the way of the rest of the garbage that used to be on Rev3 (i.e. Internet Superstar).

Man, I was really hoping for something better... there were a couple funny moments, but even they were worth nothing more than a light chuckle.
I know these guys aren't professional actors, but their acting is horrible. And because the show is so well produced, I expected better from them.
The trailer for the show made it seem much better... mainly because a couple scenes were changed in the final cut... and made less funny.
I hope the next episode is alot better.
(and in regards to the Internet Superstar comment above, Internet Superstar was much funnier than this show, and better than alot of shows still on Rev3...)

For now I think it's nothing special, but it's the first episode, I'll give them a few more. The idea isn't bad but the jokes aren't that funny either, or most of them.
Again, I'll give it a few more weeks.

I don't get why there were 2 "Why do you look like...?" jokes with the podcasting equipment.
That aside, this was really well produced and pretty funny. I found the HD-DVD unicorn joke particularly funny.
I will say, I think there's too much of that tranition where you move the camera. I have no idea what you call it, looks like a combination of moving the camera up/down/left/right with a "push" transition, is it?
And I felt like I heard that bridge music way way way too much for a 10 minute show.
Good stuff, I'll continue watching.

Nothing hilarious. I didn't laugh out loud one time, but I enjoyed it enough to watch it another couple episodes. I agree that the preview had funnier scenes that were not in the episode. The one where the bearded guy told Kevin Rose he wanted to be a part of his world was WAY funnier on the preview. In the actual episode it seemed like he was just reading some lines.
Guys, I'm in Houston, give me a jingle and I'll help you with this.

Sorry guys, I'm not try to be a downer but the humor wasn't there for me. I'm a huge fan of shows like The Guild, Legend of Neil, and everything on College humor because the writing is great and the timing is perfect.
Hopefully you guys can turn it around but from that episode, not digging it.

So, I gave it a shot ... and Im kinda confused ... It was almost too geeky for me and im a geek (so many references for no reason). It just wasn't funny i wanted to laugh but i just didn't, it reminds me of new sitcoms on tv that try to be smart and hip but have no idea what is hip and smart and its the reason i don't watch them.
sorry guys, i just didn't like it very much every thing just felt to forced that it didn't come across to me at least that you guys really are into that kind of stuff it seemed like they are just actors using all sorts of tech words becasue someone scripted them.
maybe ill check it out again after a few more shows?

Oh god this is horrible. Who cares about a podcast about podcasters?! May it die quickly.

The original purpose of the show, when it first was released on smoothfewfilms.com, was to be about a parody version of how they created their first actual series The Leet World. Which was a machinima created in Counter Strike: Source. And they did 3 eps of that before they started the 2nd season of TLW which just ended. The original Web Zeroes was actually pretty dang funny. Now this is a reboot, which so far isn't about machinima at all. And alot of the stuff that is in the first episode is pulled from the first two episodes, just re-shot. Give it more of a chance, more than denouncing it on the first episode...come on.

Blatant Netflix product placement was blatant
Sitting on the fence on this one so far, seems like something that needs time to start getting good.

I think it can get better, but the first episode wasn't for me.

I don't know what you are all complaining about - This isn't far from the "original" Web Zeroes, if you didn't enjoy that I daresay you won't this.
Good episode, I can see this show going a lot further and just like TLW I will be there the whole journey
I just don't get it.
Is this meant to be if The Office and the Big bang theory had an unfunny child?
Honestly the three just don't gel well together. Very poor pilot, and i would have expected to see something like this from a youtube sitcom rather than a Revision3 show.
However as I want to see this show be a success as I like Rev3, I suggest really throwing this show into overhaul. Make the personalities of each character unique and different, so we can distinguish and identify with them.
Good luck though guys, and on a plus, it was shot and edited well.

the product placement was downright offensive.
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
Gotta love the Revision3 audience, huh?
Anyway, this episode was okay. It wasn't particularly hilarious, but I'll probably keep watching.
My favorite part:
"No really, how much did you spend on this?"
"Need I remind you how much you spend on high heels and makeup?"
"None, actually. Because you don't like me wearing makeup, and you don't like it when I'm taller than you."
"I'm the man!"
That's enough to get me to tune in next week. :D

It was alright. It looks like she actually is wearing a bit of makeup?
The acting is terrible, though. It's literally holding one position while droning. REAL people move about a lot, and vary their voices a lot more as well.
I enjoy how deeply-internety some of the jokes are. I did expect a LOT more from the ads

Claim: Andre the Giant can be linked with any actor who appears in a Hollywood movie after 1960 in four steps of less.
Proof:
Lemma 1: Sean Connery can be linked with any actor who appears in a Hollywood film after 1960 in two steps of less.
Proof of Lemma: Obvious
Sean Connery was in "Memories of Me' with Billy Crystal who was in "Princess Bride" with Andre The Giant.

BTW, Andre The Giant also has a bit role in "Conan The Destroyer"

This podcast just wasn't funny enough for me, and Revision3 has so many shows now that I can be picky. I'm going to pass on this one.
I wish these guys well, but if comedy is the main dish of the podcast, it must be at least Film Riot funny for me to pick it up.

I'm giving this a "meh" for now, but hopefully it can improve in the future. I lightly snickered at the Kevin Rose joke only because its true that a lot of people are like that (in a not so extreme way), but other than that I really didn't find it that funny. Work on the acting too... acting is a huge part of making a joke funny and I think the bad acting took a lot away from the jokes. Remember, jokes aren't funny if they aren't presented correctly.

10-08-2009, 01:21 AM
Just some critical feedback.
I think the jokes in the promo for Web Zeroes were funnier than the actual joke in the episode. It might have something to do with the way it was cut. For example: The bit about Nick Comardo's character having Kevin Rose as his background and worshipping him was funnier in the promo than it was in the episode (and no I don't think it's because I've already seen it). I think there might of been a quicker reaction time in the promo than in the episode.
An example of this in the episode would be Nick saying "Welcome to UnicornCast" and then hitting stop. "Why'd you stop recording?" "Shit!". That was funny. It wouldn't of been funny if it was played out longer.
Lastly, your audience isn't stupid, well they might be. I think everyone got that the beer bottles were his friends, that didn't need to be pointed out.

Generally nicely done. The talent needs to learn to speak more clearly, they mumble a lot.
A couple of laughs in ep 1 - shows good potential.
Offensive product placement? Dude, seriously!
Good luck with it!

I dont know but to me it seemed like they were just trying to hard to be funny they need to let the comedy come naturally not forced out like a preplaned line and yeah part of it may just be that this is just an episode to introduce the cast to people. but i think in episodes to come it will get alot better and the comedy will come alot more naturally. and oh yeah hopefully they dont do any more of that s#!t like placing the netflix envelope right in front of you again thats just annoying and not a good way to advertise.

I don't see an issue with it. Without sponsors the shows don't happen. I actually had a chuckle when I saw the envelope, and thought it was clever.

Yeah, I thought it was clever, too. But considering it altered the scene (diane didn't move the entire time!).. it was distracting and rude

10-08-2009, 05:29 PM
Honestly the acting and comedy seemed wayyy too forced. There were several times when it quite literally felt as if they had just memorized their lines and were robotically reading them back.
The premise while amusing feels like a direct rip from commodore Hustle - which features far better acting, and music.

Hey guys, Eddy from Web Zeroes here (Alex in the show). Just wanted to give a thank you to everyone who watched and left some feedback, good and bad. As with any sitcom, it will take a few episodes to find its legs, so every bit is welcome. Hope to hear more after next week's episode for sure.

Eddy, congrats on the show. Liking it a lot. It feels a tad like a mockumentary/satire in the vein of This is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, etc.. Perhaps you guys can include some interactions with normal people (non-actors) who just think you're some budding internet star wannabes. Sort of like Sasha did in Borat where he was filming an entertainment product but appeared to be filming a reality show.

I JUST watched it after reading most of this thread, and I think it was just fine.
I'm coming in with NO knowledge of your previous incarnations, fresh eyes. All that.
I think I know where you are going with this...
So far, I'm guessing it is a farce on the documentary Startup.com, and if it isn't, it should be.
Sure, get your legs. Deliver the lines a bit better, relax in your skin. A bit of better editing/camerawork more geared to "showing the jokes" than "showing the jokers"...
Vid quality is great, sound is great.
I just think you gotta relax a bit more. Don't Rely on the script so much. Have fun with it.
And yeah, I think you did a fine job of getting Episode one out, while introducing the characters, introducing the concept, and still making a fun show. A few eps from now you won't have to force the intros and concept, and will be able to just have more fun with the scripts.
Good job guys. Looking forward to ep 2.

I thought it was good. It wasn't great but it also wasn't bad. It's short enough to keep me tuning in just for the few jokes I found funny. Some jokes seemed a little forced.
The product placement really didn't bother me. If this show was on TV, then the product placement would bother me, but it's just a few dudes making an internet show and netflix is fully disclosed as a sponsor. Also the acting could be better.
I will be watching the next episode. Congrats on the show and good luck.

Funny enough, wasn't the best thing in the world but it got me to chuckle, I agree the promo for the episode was funnier, the take they used on the Kevin Rose joke was more creepy (I wonder how Kevin feels watching this show)
If I'm bored and have nothing else to watch (like I am most of the time) I can see myself watching more of this, if I don't have much time I won't stop what I'm doing to make time for this.
If they did a filmriot cross over that would be amazing.
Anyway I will continue to watch and I'm assuming as we get to the know the character better it will get funnier.
Way better than most TV sitcoms *cough*Friends*cough*
Lastly, your audience isn't stupid, well they might be. I think everyone got that the beer bottles were his friends, that didn't need to be pointed out.
I actually thought that was the joke, pointing out something that was REALLY obvious.

o lord. That was butt heinous.
This is what happens when a bunch a theater thespians get in front of a camera. Over acting and over enunciating words. All the while trying to "act natural" which will always come off as just that....trying. Webzeros crew, you're not on a theater stage....the audience can hear and understand you just fine without talking like a bunch of amateur theater morons. Work on your dialog pacing along with joke timing and delivery. Also, if a sentence ends with a period....dont turn it into a question by pitching up the last......word?
This show is just bad acting across the board.
Jesus, how many times do I have to see crappy theater actors attempt to act in front of a camera?

The content had mostly funny concepts. The production was adequately polished as well. The delivery could have used more dynamics and energy. The ideas and storyline were funny enough that I was laughing out loud quite a bit. The non-sequiter concept as in what "family Guy" is known for was well played out also. You guys have very good ideas, and the scenes flowed very easily. The only criticism I would have is in the delivery. The acting was sub-par. The line delivery was flat and monotone in places where the scene demanded more emotion. You guys will have a really great hit if you keep it punchy, and improve on the acting. I understand that broadcast engineering is very different from acting. You guys are trying to do both and it is clear where your strengths and weaknesses are. Step up the acting side of things and you guys are GOLDEN!

I think you're thinking of Shakespearean Theatre, Shakespeare has a lot of enunciation and whatnot due to demands of the timeperiod. And by the way, many people who are in films/TV do Theatre as well, like Rowan Atkinson and William Macy.
This could be a great show, but the acting isn't that great and partly because of that the jokes just don't work well. These guys would be a riot on a radio show, just the live acting kills it.

I don't like the way it was produced as just a bunch of short skits. It seemed very fragmented. Also, I wish it were longer...like a "real" show. I liked the concept, but it just wasn't funny.

The guy just doesn't like Friends. I can't stand it either. It's too contrived, has annoying characters, and not very funny. I can't even stomach Seinfeld lately. I used to watch it, but to me -- it's too sitcom-y and annoying.
King of Queens is good. And the IT Crowd. Of course, it's all just opinions. Most of the programming I watch is either Rev3 or reality shows like Top Chef or Dancing with the Stars.
