So, anyone else excited about this game, coming next week?
I hope it's as good as it seems it will be.

If you're in Canada, you can get it for $39.96 at WalMart or FutureShop (and probably other retailers). A similar situation to what happened with Batman Arkham Asylum, it seems.

Extremely excited. I haven't really been following the game, but the footage and the idea behind a first person RPG done in its unique way makes want this game. But at $60 and having just spend $50 on Uncharted 2, I need to see how it reviews before spending more money. I gots to be picky since so many games are coming out.

Interesting. If I had a job i'd definitely go pick it up for $40.

Looks like I'll be getting a game I've been looking forward to all year at a huge discount! Sweet!
So does this mean the whole "Batman discount was a typo that Walmart had to follow through on" is not true? What are the chances of this happening twice?
Can't wait to get the game. Almost everyone I know will be getting it. Which is good for that whole online co-op stuff they've got going on. :D

Best Buy just updated their site, too. Earlier it said $69.99, but now it's down to $39.99.
I'm so looking forward to this. I hope it delivers what I'm expecting.

Whatever is causing this I hope it keeps happening, if all games were $40 I'd be a much happier man.

Damn! I have it pre-ordered at Amazon for over $50. I wonder if I should cancel and pick it up at Best Buy. Is it really going to be $40 at the store?

$50 at Amazon? Are you sure? Are you Canadian? I had mine pre-ordered on Amazon.ca, and the price was $69.99... And yes, it will be $39 and change at FutureShop, Best Buy, and WalMart - but only in Canada.

Oh, I'm in the US so I guess I'll just leave the pre-order alone at Amazon. At least I have Brutal Legend to tide me over till it arrives.

Picked up my pre-order this morning, but only had about a half hour to play before I had to come in to work. Love the look of the game. Great sense of humor. Gameplay seems pretty smooth. So far, I'm really diggin' it.

I've only played for a couple hours so far, but I really like it. It reminds me of Fallout 3 at times, and actually, I'd describe it as Fallout 3 meets Diablo meets Call of Duty - light on the story, heavy on the action.

Theres no VATS mode in Borderlands, is there? It's all real time?

Correct, there is no VATS, but it has the exact same compass at the bottom to show you were your objectives and enemies are.

Thanks to trading in some stuff at Gamestop and Hastings I was able to pick up this and Brutal Legend today and put some credit down towards DJ Hero.
Haven't tried Brutal Legend yet, but Borderlands seems pretty great. I've played through a few hours doing co-op with a friend and we were having a blast.

It's all real-time, yeah. Much faster-paced than Fallout 3, even when playing solo.
Here's how I described it in my initial impressions:
Fallout 3's setting (at times, I even find myself pressing the buttons I used in Fallout 3, actually).
Oblivion's music & looting (music comparison is probably not too accurate, but that's what came to mind most while I was playing and exploring).
Diablo's randomness & looting (I remember clicking on everything in Diablo. I do something similar here, using the Square button. Addictive).
Call of Duty's shooting mechanic (could really be compared to any good shooter, unlike Fallout 3's shooting mechanic. Also, when you are about to die, you get a similar thing to that one perk, Last Stand or whatever they called it... You are dying on the ground, but you can shoot at some enemies. If you get a kill, you get some health back and you're saved. Pretty nice mechanic, actually. Doesn't work so well if you're behind cover, though).
Sacred 2's quest system (most of the quest background is text and is easily skipped/ignored. You could play and do quests and never know the reasons. I would have preferred full voice acting like in Fallout 3, but I figured there wasn't going to be much story here, anyhow).
Prince of Persia's art style (sort of. It's not cel-shading, and the two don't look really anything alike. But it's probably the closest I can think of).
I've played about 5 hours of it so far. Really, really glad I bought it. But there are some issues I have with it, and Gearbox is aware of at least one of them and are looking into it.

Oh man. This makes the decision so much harder. I was literally at Best Buy, with both Uncharted 2 and Borderlands in hand, unsure which one to goto the register with, and I literally went back to my apt to check initial impressions. Now I have no idea which to play through first -- the greatest problem to possibly have as a gamer.

I'd say watch Uncharted 2 first. It's only about 12 hours or less (I clocked in at 11:20 in Normal difficulty) and then move on to Borderlands.

Haha, I see what you did there! Cute.
I do agree though. If you've got Uncharted 2 and Borderlands, play Uncharted 2 first. You'll get through it faster and then you can take some time with Borderlands. But don't take too much time! Dragon Age: Origins comes out in less than two weeks! EEEE!
I've played about 2 hours of Borderlands so far and am up to Level 7. During those first couple of hours, I couldn't shake the feeling that when I heard Fallout 3 would be a first person experience, I expected something more like what Borderlands is. I'm thrilled with what Fallout 3 turned out to be but for some reason, Borderland's sense of humor reminds me of Interplay's Fallout quite a bit. I'm very much enjoying the experience so far and can't wait to try some of the drop-in cooperative play. I've gotten to a point where some baddies are a bit tougher than I can take on alone and sure could use some backup.

I was somehow blessed with the reality that every single one of my close friends wanted, and picked up this game on the first day. I've barely played the game on my own. I'm almost constantly in co-op with 3 other friends. The game is amazing. I only wish it could have more than 4 people total, cause there's more than 4 in our group with the game. We're all around level 21-24 now.

So far, the only thing I don't absolutely love about this game is the driving mechanic. It's a little...unintuitive.

I completely know what you mean. At first none of my friends or myself could drive the cars at all. They seemed to turn suddenly with just a touch of the controls and we'd end up wobbling all over the place and very quickly hitting something and getting stuck. However, it doesn't seem to have taken long and most of us are decent drivers now. In fact, I was just thinking to myself today "the cars seem almost slow today, they were so fast and out-of-control yesterday"... so I think with a little bit of practice, they become manageable. Of course trying to drive and shoot at bandits in their own cars was nearly impossible. You hit anything and you get stuck, or flip. Or worse, your friends ram your car with theirs, flipping your car upsidedown, and wedging theirs on top of yours, thus ruining both cars.

blacksymbiote nailed it. I was sucking pretty bad with the vehicles, but now I'm getting used to it. It's like driving an RC car (controls are exactly what Smash Cars should have had!). Once you wrap your head around that, it's actually pretty good, I find. It's the way vehicles should always have handled, IMHO. It's just like FPS/TPS controls, only with the strafing disabled.
I put in about 13 or 14 hours so far, and I'm loving it. I think I'm at level 16 or 17 now. I think anyone who loved wandering Fallout 3's world will love Borderlands, as long as they are ok with the seeming lack of story and NPCs to talk to. It's the kind of game that I can put hours and hours into, and just get lost in the world. I love the graphics, too. They look very good. Had Fallout 3 shipped with this artsy engine, I think people would have embraced it, and in a lot of ways it looks better than Fallout 3 did. Any fears of this concept art style should be put to rest. I hope they put out a demo for the game to get others hooked on it. It deserves more attention.

I stayed up way too late playing this game last night. It's definitely a great game, but I have run onto one problem on one of the quests. One of the quests in the Dahl Highlands (I think that's right, I don't have it running right now, so it could be another area. But it's the area where the bandits drive around in their own cars) asks you to look for pieces of a revolver. All the parts seem to be located at the same area, but I can't find one part. The target cursor points to a spot with nothing there. And it doesn't seem to be on anything above the spot either. Has anyone else either completed this quest or had a similar problem?

Whats the online experience like? I'm assuming theres got to be some sort of matchmaking for 4 people.
I'd think it would suffer from massive case of Diablo 2 syndrome, where everyone is just all "Rush rush rush kill boss" and click as quickly as you can to loot the epic drop, then log off and do it again. Doesn't sound in any way appealing -- are those ill founded suspicions?

There isn't one for me. Everytime I've tried to check it out, join someone else's, whatever, the game freezes and I have to shut the system off. Not cool.

It's been great, other than one of my friends couldn't join my game and I couldn't join his at first, but they transparently fixed it the day after launch. I didn't see any matchmaking stuff, mind you, I've only played with other people on my friend list, and their friends. I am playing the PS3 version. I haven't gone to the Online option at the menu screen, I've always just started in single-player and either accepted invites or sent them from the pause menu. It's not a game I'd want to play with random strangers, anyhow.

I just did a similar quest, but I must not be as far in as you. It wasn't a revolver, it was a sniper rifle, and it was in the Arid Badlands, IIRC. I haven't seen much of the map yet. I am guessing it's bigger than it looks. Anyhow, for the sniper quest, the waypoint is in the general location of all four parts, and I had to look around to find them. I suspect it's a similar situation. The last part I couldn't find for a good few minutes - they hid it and I thought it was broken, but then I found it.

It seems like there's a quest like this for each area... finding the bits of a gun. I've seen one about a shotgun as well. Usually the first waypoint is for the first part, and if you watch closely it then moves for the next part on the list. I'm thinking you might be onto something though, as I recall already find a part in that spot, so maybe it's just nearby or in the general area. I'll look around for glowing green things again.

I'm playing the 360 version, and I've had no online connection issues. I've only played with close friends, and haven't gone to the random grouping, but a friend has.
As for the "click as quickly as you can to loot the epic drop" point, for sure this can end up happening. My friend mentioned that whenever his style of preferred gun would drop, all the other people would just grab for it and keep it so he wouldn't get anything. So it definitely can be an issue. It still happens a bit with my friends, but generally it's for money or ammo, but since all money is shared, it doesn't matter who picks it up, and since we all tend to use different guns, we only need certain types of ammo. But anytime something significant drops we tend to just run up and stare at it (it's stats will hover over it when you get close). We then sorta decide who it would be best for. Like if one guy only uses sniper rifles, or someone prefers shotguns or pistols. If it's insignificant, generally whoever sticks around and doesn't wander away to look at other things will take it. We even buy stuff for each other from the stores! SHOCK! I know, I don't think we're playing it right :p

Hmm, the waypoint didn't move for me at all. I don't know if it is designed this way, a platform difference, or if I maybe found the parts out of order causing it to not change, but it definitely didn't change until I found the last one and had to turn in. Odd!

Perhaps, I know it will always point to the first item in the list, but you can certainly find the others by sight, which would of course not affect the waypoint. I know it moved around when I was looking for car parts. But maybe it was only that one mission, and not for the gun parts.
I found the last bit of the gun btw, it wasn't near the waypoint at all, but was at least in the "camp".

That is kind of annoying about the waypoints, but yeah they just apparently point to the area, and it's up to you to look around. I actually think that was a good choice on their part, instead of just marking it for you.
I'm about halfway in now, almost level 25, I really like it. I don't want to play for hours and hours and hours at a time, but it's good solid fun.

I'm finding this game extremely addictive right now. I'm only level 17 but I'm having a blast especially when I'm playing with my buddies.
