when the DSi came out, I said I wouldn't get one.
then my brother (he's 9, i'm 28) got a white DSi.
i played 5 minutes of Bowser's Inside Story and I was hooked.

He gave me Pokemon Diamond to borrow for a business trip i have next week.
I'm 3 hours in and I'm shocked to say that i'm having a pretty good time with it.

Have any of you played through it? is it worth the time? (my brother logged 120 hours!) what did you like about it?

If you've never played a Pokemon game before, I think it's worth playing through the story. It's not a 100 hour story, so don't worry. Your brother probably spent the extra time leveling up a bunch of pokemon. The game is a pretty basic RPG in terms of story and structure, but the real fun is catching and raising pokemon. The main issue people have with the franchise is that it really hasn't changed much since the first one.

I dunno, I played Platinum for quite a while when it came out, even got into "hardcore" wi-fi battles and EV Training...Its addicting and fun, but hard to call a good game. All the new pokemon are pretty lame...I did, however, enjoy the nostalgic orgy that was Pokemon FireRed.

I played a ton of Red and Gold back in the day, and I experimented with Emerald on my laptop but the map & plot on that one was too confusing for me. The classic GBC pokemons are some of the best games ever made and I still enjoy playing Gold. I've had a 100-hour save before on Gold, just because I got caught up in trying to catch as many pokemon as possible, and it's a really good way of spending time on a roadtrip before we got a car with an outlet for my laptop haha. Great great games.

The (main series) Pokemon games are all solid games. The only reason they get a lot of crap is because of the FAD that happened around the show/card game not long after red and blue were released. I think the dislike is very undeserved especially from Nintendo fanboys, Zelda and Mario are just as childish and (until recent generations) just as recycled. (how many times can one princess get kidnapped)

I will agree that of all the Nintendo franchises Pokemon has changed the least. If you enjoy one Pokemon game you'll like them all, but if your in it for the "story" it is not really worth your time. Most of the story can be summed up in a few sentences, and diamond/pearl has probably the most watered down story in a Pokemon game so far. Pokemon games are not for "complete it and trade it in" kind of people. They are for people that like side quests and replay value. (arguably)

I played the Red version back when it came out a TON. I didn't really play a Pokemon game for a long time, but then recently started playing them again. I have to say these are still some really fun games.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying it. It's a good game. But yes, it hasn't really... *puts on sunglasses*... evolved.

I love the basic Pokemon experience. There's something addicting about grinding and finding rare Pokemon (though I hate going through caves because there's so many random encounters).

They've tried to make changes from the old formula, but now I think it's too crowded with features. Berries, breeding, pageants, bunch of new types of evolution, all kinds of new HMs. It's all stuff that go past my head. It's great that there are options, but other than new types of evolution, the additions feel more like a waste.

I was so addicted to Pokemon when it first came out it's not even funny. I must have played through Blue 3 full times. Each time trading all my high levels to a friend and then trading back for them after I got that package for Prof. Oak. I played Silver all the way through, but didn't repeat it like I had for the original. I've gotten each new iteration as they've been released, but played them less and less until finally, in the latest version, I never finished the E4 battle. I was tired of the grinding and leveling up that had entertained me so much in the past. It will always hold a warm spot in my nostalgia heart though. :D

Oh man, Pokemon is hella deep. If you've got a friend to play against (like me) who's as into trying to beat as you are in trying to beat him it's crazy.

On the surface it's a rather simple rock-paper-scissors style game, and that may be enough for you to complete the main game and have LOADS of fun, but it's getting a friend who's Poke-ass you want to kick where it unravels into a wonderful shit-storm of a time blackhole. 350 hours in for us both and we're just now at the point of having Pokemon squads we find satisfactory.

Pokemon... yeah. Pokemon...

man I haven't played pokemon in years. I never really played the actual game but man I was OD into the card game and the show. I remember pokemon cards use to be so big that they weren't allowed in school because kids where getting beat up and jacked for pokemon cards. I got out of the pokeman card game when I hit 8th grade.

that is until pokemon stadium happened to the n64. That's when I got into the red and blue, and yellow (trying to get that surfing picachu). trying to kick my friends behind in stadium. I use to take my cartridge over to his house and we use to battle it out.

then i got a hold of a gamehsark and roms of the games. I hacked myself some pretty awesome pokemon. It was awesome seeing everyone's faces when I pulled out a rare weird colored pokemon

I was like 8 or so when the first two came out (red and blue) and I have to say that I got pretty hooked. I've always loved rpgs so this was right up my alley. Gold and Silver were the absolute best though in my opinion. I've tried playing some of the more recent incarnations but nothing has quite hooked me like those first few did. I've heard that they're coming out with a revamped version of Gold and Silver which I will probably buy.
