Hey guys (and girls?),

I recently purchased a new Pocket PC, the HP hx2495b (running Windows Mobile 5). I have been trying to listen to the standard diggnation mp3 podcast, downloaded direct from the revision3 website, but I have had only partial success. I am able to use ActiveSync (version 4.5 beta 2) to transfer the file to the Pocket PC, but it takes forever. I'm not sure if this is because it's re-encoding the file (adding/removing DRM?), or because the USB connection is somehow slow. Regardless, it's taking wayyyyyy too long to put the file on the PPC (approx. 10 minutes to transfer a single episode).

I've tried another solution, which is to move the files directly onto an SD card (bypassing the re-encoding, and skipping the whole USB/sync thing), but none of the media players I've tried can play the file. I've tried the following media players, and none of them can play the non-encoded files:
1) Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for Pocket PC
2) The Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP)
3) GSPlayer
4) MortPlayer
GSPlayer and MortPlayer will both play the first 0.5 seconds of the file, but then they just stop. WMPlayer and TCPMP just refuse to even try playing the file.

I've done about every search on Google I can think of, but it appears that either no one else has had this problem, or no one else has solved it. The files I've tried to play (that have both failed) are episodes 20 and 21 of diggnation in mp3 format (diggnation--0020--2005-11-10--high.mp3, and diggnation--0021--2005-11-17--high.mp3). Again, the files will play just fine if I put them through standard ActiveSync encoding process, it just takes a very long time to do so. I'm hoping that someone out there will know how to handle this problem or what might be causing it. Does anyone know a good workaround?

Thanks for listening!

I think I may have figured out my problem. I'm posting a very quick synopsis for anyone who may have this same problem in the future.

It appears that the mp3 files were being corrupted on the SD card because the card itself was not properly formatted. I formatted the card (FAT32) using a windows xp pc, and then I tried some new mp3s. Success! The files play properly, and nothing is corrupted.

Oh, and for what it's worth, I would highly recommend MortPlayer for anyone with a Pocket PC. It runs very well, high quality audio output, and the default skin has large buttons that make it easy to use while driving. Enjoy!
