So Uncharted 2 is getting all these crazy good reviews. I never played the first one (I have to many games) as it never really dropped in price. Maybe it has now.

My question is, should I go and play the first game first and then play the sequel or just jump right in to Uncharted 2?

I'd highly recommend Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. It isn't really necessary for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, unless you want more character development with the characters. Which is one main portion of both games.

Also, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune has dropped in price. It is $29.99 now.

I actually heard Uncharted has recently hit the Greatest Hits of PS3 a few months ago, so I'd think you can get it for 30 bucks or so. If money is tight, I'd play through the first one, then hit up a friend / gamestop for a used copy (Though lets be honest, youre prolly looking at a 55 dollar price tag, used.)

Maybe add UC2 to your GF Q now, and play through UC1 in the interim.

I'm waiting until it's $20 or $25 used, which it'll hopefully drop to around Christmas. Either that or I'll just rent it. I usually don't like stuff that everyone else likes, and I don't imagine it has replay value.

Yeah, to be perfectly honest, after you beat it on Hard there isn't very much to be done. If I recall theres a few unlockables, such as character skins and maybe a new weapon here and there, but my logic is "if i can beat the game without using weapon x, why should I spend 20 hours unlocking weapon x if I've just shown it isn't needed."

you can jump straight to Uncharted 2.
Story wise it doesn't really matter, but since its a great game, and the price is probably low, why not.

I'm actually playing through the first game now (about halfway through). I'm hoping that the sequel relies less on gunplay / cover mechanics than Drake's Fortune, which alternates between really fun and somewhat tedious.

I loved the first one. I don't understand how anyone could like Uncharted 2 if they didn't like Uncharted 1... Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It's the same basic game, just they improved it all around. But they're still similar enough.

If you don't want to buy Uncharted, just rent it and plow through it. Otherwise, I think it's well worth $30, even with Uncharted 2 out.

As others have said, you don't need to have played it, though.

Also, both games have no loading, so you can conceivably play through them both in a single sitting each. Also, no data install to the hard drive.

There's still the tedious gunplay elements. Especially in the second half of the game. I feel like most of the time they throw a wave too many in just to make the game a bit longer (an extra wave of enemies every fight over the course of the game makes up for quite a bit of extra time). However luckily there's now also the option to go stealth (though you still have to kill all of them, most of the time) which is... Well, it's good. Though I find that most of the time you can only take a few out stealth and you still have to kill the rest the old fashioned way.

I don't know if the game is better than Uncharted 1, honestly. I thought Uncharted 1 was really really good as well, and honestly there's a lot of overlaps, even as far as the story structure goes, it feels like it's the same basic set-up with a different wrapper. However, since I love the wrapper, I think both are excellent games. Uncharted 2 is probably better if you've never played either before, but Uncharted 1 will always have a special place in my heart just because it's the first of the series I've played and it was so unexpectedly awesome. It's like how Tomb Raider 1 will always be my favorite just because it's the first...:D

I just got U:DF - used- I have to say I'm having a blast, but the explosions look like they are being rendered on a C64. Honestly the water and lighting are amazing then something blows up and ruins it. It's Larry Croft with a great story worthy of the original Tombraider.

Uncharted 1 is a good game and there are some perks to have played the first before picking up the 2nd. If you have a game save UC1 then you will get extra $20,000 and then $100,000 if you got 100% on it. The money can then be used for upgrade on MP, or COOP modes.

Oh and it's 'Dude Raider' not 'Larry Croft'.

It's a great game, I don't understand why so many people say the gunplay is tedious. For me it's almost just as good as Gears of War, and in uncharted 2 they actually do make just as good as gears. I pretty much love everything about the game, and playing through it will probably make you appreciate even more what they improved in the sequel.
