Episode 25 - Cut a Throat and Projectile Vomiting [Discussion]

Two things I noticed about the From Hell footage. The alley was lit from above and did two things for the shot, it cast bright focus on the face of the actress to pull the viewer into her expression and it also cast a dark pool of shadow below her chin.

If you watch her hands before and after the walk across cut her hands are at her chest before the cut and when she's revealed after the cut she has a hand pressed to her throat and we never actually see the cut. The blood then flows out from between her fingers and down her chest.

You could do the effect with some surgical tubing running up the actor's arm and ending in their palm. Take something like a turkey syringe full of blood and have a crew member push blood up and out of the tube. If you wanted to really top it off, dub in a bit of a gargling cough or sputter as the actor reacts to the attack.

This is so cool and best of all, it's so simple to do. I'm going to try it out next for next year Halloween and go as a Zombie with cuts. Just one question, what is the name of the wax that you used? I had trouble hearing the product name on the video. Thanks

Ah, that's what you said, lol. I head "nose something something wax" and thought the first word couldn't have been nose, lol.

Thanks for the link Ryan but I'm in Australia so a quick search on Google and I found two local shops that stock this stuff. Now waiting eagerly for next year Halloween. *rubbing hands*

Great episode guys...just wondering if it would be hard to pull of the "stand by me" projectile vomiting. I know that it would probably not consist of anything more than the idea of a hose with some pressure behind it..still going into the episode that is what I thought you were going to do...still great

That effect is really easy. It is just a hose to the side of the actors mouth.
