D-Link Router reassigning IP from linux box

Okay, on our network I have 1 laptop running secured wireless and 2-3 Pc's running XP and one Linux box. i have a D-link DI-524. The DHCP is assigning the .3 address to the linux box, then when we add a new pc to the router, it's also picking up the .3 address and giving us a conflict. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

umm, there are a few things you could try...

1. manualing set the linux box or laptop to an address you know the DHCP will never hit, like .150

2. I'm not sure if that router supports it, but my wireless router does a static DHCP. Meaning you tell it which MAC address gets which IP address. So, it's still technically doing dynamic IPs, but not with the machines that are always on my network.

Thats what i was going to say.. and my d-link wireless router (which is in the back of some UPS truck, being REM'ed haha) has the ability to have DHCP turned on, and then a specific IP address can be assigned to a specified MAC address.

I used it so that my computer was always given the same IP address; that way, all the music i was *cough cough* letting my flat mates listen to while i had my computer turned on, without having to set a static IP on my computer, and having to reset it every time i was using wireless outside of my own house.
