Hey Rev3 Members,

This is a low moment for me and I'll explain why. For my 18th/Graduation my parents gave me a Toshiba Satellite P30 notebook computer. With it's 17" screen all glossy and sexy looking, I installed and loved playing Half Life 2. Little did I know that only 2 years later, this thing would begin to clunk out and die on me. It's been really showing it's age of late. The main concern is that the Processor is going to overheat itself to death. See, I live in Canada (Regina specifically) and it gets cold here. The temperature in the winter ranges from 10 degrees Celsius to -35 degrees Celsius, so cooling the thing with an open windows is not a problem. Frostbite, on the other hand, is. If I could afford it, I would but over 11 grand a year in tuition is taking its toll on my finances.

Basically, I'm begging here. I can't function and type papers on this overheating, underportable, monstrosity. So I'm turning to the community to lend a hand. If you can spare a few bucks, and don't mind sending them my way, please go here (http://cocacolaninja.blogspot.com/) and click the donate button.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can spare.

Cheers,
Eric

The laptop is probably OK, but just needs cleaning.
Take it to a service place and get them to blow the dust bunnies out of the damn thing.
ALSO contrary to their naming, a laptop SHOULD NOT be used on your lap. They need ventilation. Make sure you use it on a flat surface, so that it can receive adequate ventilation.
Another option might also be a laptop cooler something like this (http://www.jab-tech.com/product.php?productid=2111). Its a damn site cheaper than replacing a two year old laptop.

Also, are you running Windows or Ubuntu (I saw a post of yours in an Ubuntu forum)?? Is it shutting down because you have bene screwing with the config?

I'm Running Windows. I tried Ubuntu not to long after it got dugg and could not solve an issue with my sound card so I switched back. I haven't been screwing with the config that hard. Also I have it raised about an inch and a half off the ground. The Dust bunny theory could be the right one though. It hasn't been cleaned since I got the behemoth.

Toshibas usually come with some sort of power-saver and for reasons I can't fathom, mine is not working/loading so I am not sure what to make of it. Honestly, I'm ready just to turn it into a small form-factor desktop. The fans are about as noisy as a desktop.
