Vampire movies were being discussed at digg, a list of 10 Vampire movies that sucked had been posted, and I disagreed that John Carpenter's Vampires was on the list (it's so bad it's good). So I replied to another digger's comment agreeing with them and said: "John Carpenter's Vampires is an awesome movie." and quoted from the movie:
Its not like they're a bunch of fuckin' fags hoppin' around in rented formal wear...Someone was offended by this and reported it as abuse. Apparently the TOS means I agreed to not offend anyone, but come to think of it how can I know whether my comments offend people or not? It's entirely up to them. Plenty of comments have offended me on digg but I don't think they'd ban anyone for me. I see stuff on digg all the time that makes me worried for humanity, people condoning rape or saying they would rape someone for instance.
The word "fag" is used quite a bit on digg without repercussions. How many times in the comments for one post?[/URL] Speaking of vampires, check out the comments on a post at digg about the Twilight movies, Anne Rice books, or even the tv show Tru Blood. The best part is, the whole quote says they're not fags but they would have sex with a man, therefore he's not referring to homosexuals in the first instance:
No... Well first of all, they're not romantic. Its not like they're a bunch of fuckin' fags hoppin' around in rented formal wear and seducing everybody in sight with cheesy Euro-trash accents, all right? Forget whatever you've seen in the movies: they don't turn into bats, crosses don't work. Garlic? You wanna try garlic? You could stand there with garlic around your neck and one of these buggers will bend you fucking over and take a walk up your strada-chocolata WHILE he's suckin' the blood outta your neck, all right? And they don't sleep in coffins lined in taffata. You wanna kill one, you drive a wooden stake right through his fuckin' heart. Sunlight turns 'em into crispy critters. There's no banned word list on digg, and there shouldn't be. If someone wants to use the word to describe effeminate men as fags then I don't see why they should be banned. Would anyone get banned for calling someone a nerd (almost universally used as a pejorative)? I doubt it. The movie was clearly referring to Interview with the Vampire. Should I have censored the quote with another word like dandy or metrosexual? Language is nuanced, people should learn that. Anyway, digg's policy is stupid, and not overt, so bye.
