There are a couple of dromies that I haven't seen on the new forums. Where's Leeahd, divadawg (and lildawg a more recent poster, but still)? Ali Pinto? Have you guys been posting and I missed it? Do they know the new forums are up?

Clearly, diva, people recognize you based on your name... not to mention, on the old forums, there wasn't even a way to view post counts. You had to pull up the member profile, click to view all posts, and multiply the number of pages by 10 to get a semi accurate number of posts.

See, the thing is -- being a geek in and of itself means passion. We're passionate about our forums, just like movies, etc. So you're going to see some passion with regards to who will be moderating our geek haven and I, for one, am not exactly clear as to what this moderating will consist of, who is going to be moderating, etc. We're not used to moderating so some of us have the slightest geek concern. AND it's not easy to forget all of the time and geek-ergy we put into the numerous threads only to be listed as "junior member". Yes, it's just a title, we get it, but you can't just say..."we are recognized by name, be happy about it" We are geeks! This is what we do. So be straight, say..."we can't change the titles, sorry", but don't try to handle us (or me if I'm the only one who feels this way).

I like diva, she knows this forum. She knows when someone is being mean spirited or just being themselves or just having a little fun. She's been here since day one, so I will stand by my opinion that she should be a moderator. It's just my opinion and being the geek that I am, I have lots of them and express them often, especially here.

So maybe you're not trying to put any spin on this, but I feel like I'm being modded (not a word) by someone's username I barely recognize and I don't like it.

Reality is that the new forums allow a lot more posting than before - they are faster, have more features, and will hopefully attract a lot more users. Because of this you need some janitors around - thats all we are - someone to mop up the mess, douse the occassional flamefest if it gets out of hand, shuffle some threads around if they are being duplicated, etc. we are not big brother.

We are respecting the "culture" of each of the forums that has been established. We are not going to come in here and tell you to put away your toys, clean your rooms, wash your hands and come down for dinner. We are not your parents. We are people like you. We live here as well.

Will there be a moderator picked from the Dromies? Absolutely some of you have put forward names of people you want. Expect an announcement soon.

I agree with both sides here... with the new forum we've already seen tons of new people joining up. This is a great thing! Great for Revision3, great for podcasting in general and potentially great for Geekdrome. So yeah, adding a ton of new personalities and whatnot could cause some problems and (for everyone's posting/reading pleasure) therefore, having some sheriffs around is the way to go... not to be bad guys or kick anyone off, but just to make sure that no one is causing most everyone else to not have a good time anymore. That said, I do think its a good idea for a Geekdrome alumni (or 3) be in charge of the Geekdrome disscussions.

I'm completely willing to put in the work... heck, I've already broken up a few fights (in the old forums) and just generally been "forum mother" I have never been a moderator before (mostly because I haven't cared enough about any other forum) but I'm sure the other mods would help out (?) Anyway... I don't know if any of that means anything to the people with power, but I'm here for my dromies (if you need me!) :)

All of this information, in a nice sticky thread or fancy FAQ would have been helpful to educate thus reducing the amount of animosity, suspicion and general questions. But mod away, mod away my friend.

The purpose of having one of our own as a mod would be to have this person responsible for the content of the drome in a way that preserves the ancient ways of our forums. Anyone can be a mod, but the most important part is that we get someone that we can all respect and agree on, cause that's what this is about. Not violating our old ways and going back to what we used to have not but a week ago, and it's just a decision that has to be made soon, b/c I'm sure like the rest of the dromies I'm aching to have overall harmony, contentment and to finally go back to comics.

yeah, definetely. as far as i know, they're only considering me for now, and i just wanted to clear that up with people to make sure it was ok, cause i got a lotta nominations in the "to all the dromies" thread, and all the billion people in the completely unofficial irc currently seem to be ok with it. I've gotten a message from Jonathan saying I was good for the job, as well. So, I just wanna not piss anyone off and get all this over with, cause we're self moderated anyway, we don't need constant watchdog/nazi mods. If I go through, I think it'll be cool, but if not, then I don't think we have too good a chance to get people on there. But for now, it's "in talks", so I wanna make sure that's cool with everyone. It would be really laissez-faire and nothing would change, except that if little kids with pokemon/dragonballz avatars come in and troll it up, something might have to be done if we can't take care of it ourselves (like we aaaaallllways have). I also wanna try and get rid of the filters.

6. Wrote software for cellphones (won an award from Qualcomm :) ), and now addicted to my crackberry.
7. Doing LAN Parties since '95.
8. MtG (but no more)
9. Comics (but no more)
10. SciFi fan ... I was watching Dr Who ,BSG:TOS, Buck Rogers, etc in the 70's, and saw Star Wars as a drive in movie when it was released.
11. I watercooled (and not using some fancy smancy kit - well except for the waterblock I bought) and OC'd my last desktop PC. There were photos over at [H] of the day my pump sprung a leak and was shooting a fine mist of coolant though the PC .... good times ...
12. I hardwired a mod chip in my XBox.

Cultural reference - I needed to lookup Camp Anawana in IMDB ... In my defence - a.) I am over 30, b.) I grew up with 2 TV channels (only got 5 free to air channels in my teens), and c.) I am an Aussie that hadn't seen Nicelodeon until I moved to the US in 97 (and experience cable TV for the first time).

I posted once before on this site and it stated that I was a "junior member", yet I've been around since the blogspot era. Also, does anyone know why my rev3 podcasts haven't been updating on itunes? I'd rather watch my Geekdrome on itunes rather than on this site (so, can someone please get on top of that, thanks).

Aint no drugs, I cant have the hair because my skin has the tendency to make ingrown hairs.Which hurt and bleed like a nobody's business . Multiply that by like a thousand for the top of the head (and other places...) and you can see how that starts to suck.
