So i went to the new MGM grande casino here in new england. Saw the Americas got talent tour hosted by jerry springer. What a cool, fun, and heartfelt show. Saw jerry in a whole new light. I never liked his show very much, but always wondered how he was in rl.
well we went out to dinner after the show. just as we were finishing dinner and ordering coffee, jerry walks in with some staff members. they are all quietly chatting and being very pleasant to the waiting staff.
When i saw how cool he was i wanted to walk over and shake his hand.
Alas. I promised myself I would never be so rude as to interupt a celeb if they were eating or in variois other situations. so i tweeted how cool it was, finished my coffee and left.

i live in NYC we see a lot of celebs
I used to live in the alphabet city I would see David Cross sitting on one of the benches at tompkins square park all the time. Molly Ringwald lived in the area saw her a few times. Oh and Rosairo Dawson is from that area to her moms still lives in the same apt the same apt that they show her hanging out on the stoop in KIDS.
I just let them be I don't know its NYC thing that is why a lot of famous people live here nobody gives a fuck who they are on the street its just another asshole walking on the sidewalk
Heath and Michelle loved brooklyn same reason nobody bothered them in fact when he died people in the area he lived in said he would hit the local pup to catch up on his football games aka soccer
there is this famous place in Brooklyn called Tom's Dinner I was waiting in line the line was around the block i was at the front waiting to be seated. I feel someone tap me on the shoulder and its Adrian Grenier another Brooklyn born actor. He said excuse me i let him through he asked how long the wait is. He then went to the back of the line with his people and waited just like everyone else. The best part is none bothered him even when he sat down the tables in that place are pretty close to each other.
I can never talk bad about that guy other then being with one of the hottest woman i ever seen he waited in line just like the rest of us locals

If it was Nathan Fillion I'd probably tip my hat, and say "Capt'n".
Everybody else? I'd treat them like I treat anybody else. Wouldn't talk to him or her unless there were a reason to. I mean, most celebs I'd probably avoid.

Back in my serving days I would see a lot of celebrities. I waited on Tony Shalohb, super nice and very humble. He confessed he had no knowledge of wine so I recommended what would go well with his food and he was very gracious. I always found it strange how my coworkers would never recognize them at first. I was always the one that was like "Dude that's Rose McGowan (incredibly hot in person BTW... she smiled at me and I almost dropped my tray).

Living in Milwaukee, the only celebrity I've run into was the drummer from Fallout Boy (he is from Milwaukee). I was at a Milwaukee Brewers game and he was sitting two rows behind me with what looked to be family. After an opposing batter struck out, they played "Sugar, We're Going Down" and I was curious to see his reaction to hearing his own song at a baseball game. For some reason, instead of just glancing at him I snapped my head around and stared directly at him. I got a death stare in return.

I sat behind the prime minister of Canada at The Incredible Hulk a while back, but I didn't say hello or anything. Also, I was on an airplane with the Canadian Men's Curling team many years ago, also didn't go over and say anything (I hate curling). I went to a little meet & greet at a fitness equipment shop with Hugo Girard, the most prolific Canadian strongman of all time, and he signed my shirt while I was wearing it (I was like 8 at the time). Other than that, no celebrity sightings I can think of, it's pretty tame up here.

So the PM just showed up at the theater? Were there major security measures and a bunch of secret service agents around?

Painting red dots on every other person's forehead.
My last close encounter with a celeb was in high school (ancient history?). She was there to help open a ceremony and I was looking around at my friends, asking "Who the hell is that? Why are girls cheering?"
I don't care much about bothering movie or music celebs, but I'll probably say "Hi" to my fave authors and podcasters, just to show some support.

I was talking to a hot Canadian woman at a nightclub back in the late 80's (early 90's??). I thought things were going well, then she looked at her watch (not a good sign, blow to the ego), she said "Time to pay some bills" ... and 15min later, she (http://www.bmusic.com.au/links/whatsnew/newsletters/archives/images/alannahm1.jpg) was up on stage.
Celebs are people. They do a job that puts them in a public spotlight, but apart from that? Let them be. They dont come up to me at a cafe and say "Dude, loved the refactoring you did on the core library ... those seconds you shaved off the processing loop?? Killer. Can you sign my iPhone??" I like to show them the same courtesy.

Did she break with that song, "Black Velvet" ? If so, that was the first song my covers band learned in high school. Well, it still was whether or not she's the person I'm thinking of.

Apparently he's known for semi-frequently going to see big releases on Sunday afternoons (I didn't know at the time). What happened was we were all sitting in the seats (not full) waiting for the previews to start, and then a couple security guys walked in, then he came in (with a child of his I think) followed by a third security guy. He sat with the child right in front of me and my parents (end of a row seating), with a body guard sitting on either side of them and the third one standing against the wall right beside his seats. Overall it was pretty lax, no pomp & circumstance, and very in cognito. My mom actually had to point out to me who it was, although I probably would have eventually figured out the guy on the wall was doing something specific lol.

When I worked at Disney we were not allowed to acknowledge that a celebrity were any different from anyone else. Give them the same courtesy as any one else, but also understand they are a celebrity and they may need special treatment to protect them if 90,000 people in the park realize who is there.
Michael Jackson Kept to himself with his guards Rides had to be closed off for him to ride to prevent riots and same thing if Michael Eisner came to the park. Other celebs just walk around like anyone else. Saw Hilary Duff Backstage helping her brother do homework before we both went to do a parade together. Again I was required to stay in character and not acknowledge any difference. So i could not have any real conversation with her.
So when I met a Celeb years later and was no longer a cast Member I just followed the same etiquette, but this time i really really wanted to say Hi. LOL

I worked at a bookstore several years ago. I was standing at my register and John Cusack appeared before me, asking for directions to the restroom. I just stammered like moron and pointed my trembling finger in the general direction. He smirked and wandered off. He's been one of my favorite actors ever since I was old enough to have favorite actor. I felt like a complete jackass. He walked past me on his way out and, continuing my idiocy, I asked him, "Do you get bothered a lot?" He smirked again and replied, "Every once in a while." I wanted to tell him what his movies like Better Off Dead (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088794/), Say Anything (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098258/), Grosse Pointe Blank (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119229/)(which remains one of my favorite movies) meant to me but he was gone in a flash.

I never really understood why people feel the need to "do" something when they see a celebrity.
I kind of get it, if it's someone who's actually meant something in your life. But if I see Will Smith, who cares? And I'm actually a fan of his, but I have no interest in go talking to him if I see him.

It's not really about holding your cool I think. I'm just not really that interested in celebrity. And I don't get why anybody would want to talk to somebody, just because they're famous? Why?
I mean, I've thought about it for a couple of days now, and the only two people I'd say anything to would be David Simon and Joss Whedon. Maaaaybe Alan Ball.

That's what I mean I used to think "who cares they are no different from me or anyone. I will respect them and becomes friends if that oddity ever occurs, but I would not hold them in any higher regard."
I was not the person i thought I was when i was finally put in that situation. I realized.. Nope I am just as much a fanboy as the next person, but I still felt good about myself. Cause even though my mind was all giddy, my actions were still those of how I had always wanted to be, normal as if there was no Celeb.

I've had the chance to speak with almost all of the biggest celebrities where I live, and I remained uninterested.
Why should I respect them or want to become friends with them? I mean, if it happens organically I guess I wouldn't mind another friend, but Jesus, it'd probably just be annoying with people always walking up to him/her.

Thus why I never walked upto any of the Celebs I have every seen. Despite 'wanting' to say hi or get an autograph I always just kept doing what ever I was doing if a celeb happened to be around.
On the other hand i am very interested in people and would love to make friends with many kinds of people, even celebs.
As for annoying for the Celebs? Well each one of them has their own take on it, from what I have seen and heard in interviews. and From working in Disney we would get requests from Celeb before they arrive to try and provide security, others would just come and be gracious to any fan, and others would not give a fan the time of day.
Just like some of us Love Celebs, Hate them or are indifferent. Celebs of the balanced opposites of those.

To each his own, but Yes there are definitely too many people who take it too far and too many people who take it to sick levels. I agree with that. But not everyone is like that, and it's possible we only see and hear about a small portion of the populatio being that way.. for all me and you know, Poltah, only 1 in 1,000,000 acts in the ways you are thinking, but they just happen to stick out and get focus more that it feels like a lot of people...
I admit I am close to being the person who runs up all giddy and asks for an autograph. But I never will. I might walk up and Chake the hand of a celeb and congratulate them if one of their works affected me in a certain way, like the creator of "Dear Zachary" is sooo getting a hand shake. But beyond that I am not gona get all giddy over some uber action star.
I felt the way I did about Jerry springer because i saw what a cool person he really was and wanted to shake his hand for being so cool despite all those people bothering him.

Maybe it's a matter we should agree to disagree on? I know what My actions would be and How I feel about it, but despite my beliefs I am open minded about the whole thing and to each their own. I do see a certain line can get crossed that makes it a sickness, but holding someone up on a pedestal for any reason can happen for various reasons. And if it is simply because that person was in a cool movie or sings a lot of popular songs, then so be it.

oooh yeah, when you mention THAT situation. I am right there with you. My 9 year old daughter looks up to Hannah Montana and I hope I am giving her the right tools to allow her make her own decisions if Miley ever does get all Lohan on us. If all her obsession with Miley Cyrus means is that she prefers the Miley Trapper Keeper over the plain blue one, then so the fuck what. Let her go on loving Miley. If her interest ever affects how she treats others that do not like Miley then will sit her down and talk to her for not liking someone over something sooo trivial.
My son's used to Call each other Gay as insults. I caught them doing it one day. I ripped thier ears off while i screamed at them at 100db for 30 minutes straight. Was my reaction warranted? Yes and No. for calling each other gay as an insult? No I tell them to stop using that word that way and explain why, BUT to make a point that not accepting someone for Skin color, anime choice, sexual preference, or skin color is not 'acceptable' under my roof.
I am "Racist to Racists" I am completely accepting to everyone, except those who are not accepting to others. Both Hypocritical and Paradoxical at the same time. But hopefully you know what I mean with that touchy term.
One of my Best friends is from texas and he grew up as Racist as can be. I don't like him any less for this, but I wish he was not like that. But I also do not make accommodations for him. Thankfully he is a good enough person that despite his beliefs on culture and skin color he does not bring them into the world with him. My Wife is Latin and he does not agree with Interracial marriages, but would never dare say this to me or her. But I understand how he feels. But Just like he believes in certain things about skin color. I believe in things about driving laws, but I am not going to force someone to drive my way and do 55 in the left lane on the Highway. If I want to stay under the speed limit as I am legally allowed to i will do it in the proper lane so that people who wish to drive faster can go around me.

Sounds like it could've been a Frank Zappa song.
Back when I was living in NYC, my gf and I were waiting for a table at a supercrowded Union Square diner. As we're standing there, someone walking by knocks into me hard, causing me to stumble a bit. I turn around, infuriated..... and it's Heather Graham.
Not only was I surprised and stunned a little by how hot she looked, but she proceeded to apologize profusely, so I let it slide without clocking her :p
Later during our meal, we noticed that she was in a booth with Ed Burns, who she was dating at the time, and they were both sitting on the same side of the booth with the other side empty. My gf and I thought that was ridiculous.

No, it was John, but he did do Brian-Doyle impersonations the whole ride home.
Oh, and when I left his house, I had to back into Megan fox's driveway to turn around. Then I passed Katey Segals house, amde a right turn and passed Tarantino's. . . not that this is the "Which Celebrities Street Were You On Last Night" thread.
