I was wondering about this the other day. If I have a password protected file/folder on my PC, and move it to a Mac, could you still unlock such files/folders on the Mac? How would that work?

What software was used to password protect the folder?

The best way I have found is to put files in an archive and password the archive. This is for where you do not have admin rights on the destination machine. When I was an admin, we would have to transfer whole servers from os to another as the IT world changed. Each software package had it own quirks, Talk about fun resetting rights. That is not even considering the batch files and other shortcuts that had to be converted. In other words, do not expect any moved software to run on the destination machine with out either emulation or at least some amount of tweaking. Been there done that.
