I am having a problem. I had gotten the Macbook pro (cheapest one) when it just came out recently. I love the computer and that's not the problem. I have gotten addicted to watching everything I can in HD on it. So I went and bought 2 HD DVD's to play on it. Little did I know I could download/stream HD DVD's and not play them on my macbook pro. So, the question is, is there a program, player or something I can use to play on my mac? Any help is greatly appreciated. I don't want to have 2 movies and nothing to watch them with!

as of right now, there are no software programs to watch HD-DVD's. The xbox 360 add on player is compatible with the mac, but no software playback, decoding support. apple currently recognizes bluray for some reason, but they don't have any hardware or software support for blu ray

So if I bought a blu ray DVD it would play in my mac?

You need an HD-DVD or Blue-Ray drive to play these disks. These disks cannot be read by a conventional DVD drive.

Is there anywhere that I can purchase an HD DVD to download so I can watch it instead of trying to insert the actual HD DVD into my drive so I can watch it?

Hah! you and me both. If this netflix thing works out with apple, I bet you'll be able to download HD content. Heck, you can download HD content to your XBOX 360. Why not your MACBOOK?

I'm not aware of any online movie services that let you download HD content.

Ugh this sucks, I have been wanting to watch HD goodness. I don't have a high def video yet, I can't afford a tv to watch it and was hoping this was an option. Well that totally sucks... I really do hope they come out with some way to download HD movies.

- Edit
I just had an idea, is it possible to download HD DVD's onto your 360, then plug your 360 into your mac so you can watch them on your mac instead?!?!?! If anyone knows please let me know!

ok your making things so complicatd. for one you can rip a hd dvd but cant do nothing with it. why would you want to rip it to a 360? and have you ever been able to stream something off of your 360 onto a computer it works the other way around. there is also no software to play the hd dvd files, there not the same format as regular dvd. so to answer your question no you cant watch it on your mac right now. maybe once they rls hd dvd software for the mac you maybe work something out but most likely its going to have to be a usb drive since the macbook pro doesnt have a hd dvd player.

I didn't want to rip it, I was saying download an hd dvd movie from the marketplace on xbox live. Also quicktime has been able to stream HD DVD files so therefore why wouldn't it be able to play HD DVD files from the HD DVD?

b/c the file that quicktime streams are probably not the same files as hd dvd. like xvid divx are all avi's but different headers and what not. probably the same situation where its streaming a hd quicktime format and not the actual hd dvd format.

Not with a stock 360 I'm sure. I'm sure the whole HD_DVD<->Xbox 360 channel is DRMed up the butt.

The problem you're having(which others have metioned, I just want to make it clear) is that the MacBook doesn't have the correct drives to view HD-DVDs or Blu-Ray discs. The MacBooks have a high resolution monitor, but the new discs are totally new formats, which is why they require new DVD players.

Will the xbox 360 hd dvd player work on it? If so I will just buy that then.

Is there any cheaper HD DVD players out there, cause I don't want to go and have to spend 400 bucks..
