How do I encrypt my router?

I've had my Linksys router for a while but now I'd like to protect it, I'm pretty sure someone keeps using it. But I don't know how to find the setting and set up a password.

You enter the routers ip into your web-browser and it'll take you to the settings, what that ip is I don't know though as I don't use a linksys myself.

Try portforward.com for the IP.

although, I think that Linksys is http://192.168.1.1 by default.

Do as masherscf says, go to 192.168.1.1 Also, if my memory servers me correctly most Linksys default user and passwords are admin and "" (or a blank for the pass)

As with most things, the RTFM rules do apply. Linksys keeps most of the information you need downloadable.

You have to turn on encryption. Set up a passphrase and then enter the hex key on all your computers at home so they can continue to access the network.

Like masherscf said, if you don't have the manual anymore, head over to linksys.com to download a copy.



On a side note, Trendmicro security suite has good intrusion detection software that will alert you if unknown users are on your network.
