I just installed windows 7 32bit on a dv6707us HP

For no reason the thing turns off randomly. sometimes it'll load windows a bit then shut down when that happens I get an error log the next start up. I've gotten 2 of them

first one

Then sometimes it won't even get passed post before it shuts off. i have to wait a bit then try to turn it back on and it will.

If anyone can shed light on this I'd appreciate it because I am in the dark.

Edit: OK with a bit of digging I think I solved this problem. I put the laptop's hard disc as the first bootable drive and I disabled the USB floppy boot. I hope I haven't spoken to soon but I've restarted the lap top a couple of times with success. YaY me :D

Edit: OK so I did speak to soon. this crap still keeps turning off. Is anyone else having problems with win7 turning off?

Will it run in safe mode..was it a clean install or upgrade? If it runs in safe mode have you tried updating all drivers in safe mode w/networking?

Your might try reading the links below.

Is it a fresh install or an upgrade?

it;s a fresh install I deleted the old partition and created new one's (no formating) I did not boot and nook like Patric suggested.

I should mention it is an illegal copy of windows. ( i mean it's legit because I got it from my school but I used a WAT remover because I already used up the license). MY anti-v doesn't like that WAT remover but I ran a check after I did the WAT removing and it came back clean. So I'm thinking it's a false positive)

Also I noticed in the brief second the post showed up there was something about no TPM or TPM has problems

I did a Google search and it seams TPM is hardware encryption. <--am i wrong?

OK there have been some new developments on this issue. I just talked to the guy who owned the computer. he said that when he first got it it kept turning off randomly. He said he called HP and they told him to do something and it fixed the problem. When I first got it I noticed that his version of vista didn't have all the graphics that normal vista has. It looked more like xp. I'm thinking that the IT guy had him tone down vista because I noticed that when I did intense stuff it would shut down. then the guy said it only shuts down when he tries to watch videos.

So what would cause the laptop to shutdown when it's under stress?

Wow! Almost sounds like this laptop came with a bad graphics card. On a different PC, I would go to HP.com and go to the Support and Drivers tab and download all the Windows 7 32 bit drivers for the HP dv6707us PC. Especially the graphics driver! (Depending on if it uses ATI or Nvidia mobile graphics drivers, you might want to go to either of those websites to get the most recent display drivers.) Save these drivers on a disk or USB drive. Then start-up the laptop in safe mode as suggested by Chrispycritter and install the graphics driver first then all the other drivers. This may or may not be the problem, but its worth a try.

Yeah when he told me that my first thought was "you idiot why didn't you just return the damn thing and get a new one."

So faulty graphics card huh. I wish he would remember what exactly that IT guy told him to do so I could have something to go on.

Update: seems like the computer is working now. It hasn't turned off in a while. I went into safe mode and uninstalled the video driver. When I restarted into safe mode the video driver I uninstalled immediately reinstalled. I didn't have time to figure out how to stop windows from reinstalling drivers on its own so I left it alone. It seems to work so I am going to let it be.

I would like to know how to keep windows from automatically install drivers for future references though. Anyone know how?
