View Full Version : kicking Leo out was WRONG

I cannot believe that Leo Laport's live webcast of the show at SXSW was such a threat to the monetization of diggnation that they kicked him off the stage when the show started.
It is disgusting to see this level of GREED from an organization that I previously thought was intelligent and respectful of the value of its fanbase.
Can you NOT give up ONE episode a year to the fans? Can you not understand the value of building your fanbase?
I had my wife and daughter watching with me and they both left because Leo was kicked to the curb. I have no doubt that they are not the only two potential fans that you lost.
As a diggnation fanatic, even I am questioning my loyalty at this point.
I was trying to make an event out of this evening and you essentially slapped me in the face.
So, at least for tonight, TwiT rules, diggnation drools...

Okay dude, I was going to let this thread fly until you added the poll. I don't know the full story here. But, this is clear trolling.
I'm sure this won't be the last thread on this topic.

They had to kick him off because of the sponsors. If you've ever been to a live diggnation those sponsor readings don't always go as smooth as they would like you to think. Sponsors are their bread and butter so if something went wrong or was said to upset the sponsors then that is less bread and butter for digg.
Case in point their first diggnation in new york ( i was there) Zune sponsored it and the crowd booed when they said zune. Imagine if that was being live streamed.

hmm, I thought the poll was a nifty bonus and much more sane than my post. Yes, I was OTT on the post, but I was in the heat of the moment. I want to know what the other fans think, if it is trolling, so be it.
but I have to say, I feel like i'm trolling for the truth. Kill the post and leave the poll if you must. but please let the fans speak.

i was disappointed that leo couldnt stream the show, but i can understand why he wouldnt be able to. but another part of me, the sane ideal part says "who cares?" you cant really hear the show that well anyway, im still going to rewatch the sxsw show because the live stream audio just isnt good enough to stream it.
that was awesome watching him crowdsurf though!

I agree. of course we are going to watch it again. The full edited version with good audio feeds and more camera angles. To think that live twit coverage was leeching viewers rather than enhancing viewership is misguided. that was essentially my point.

i joined leo's ustream at about 700 viewers when i knew twit would be coming on but then as diggnation rolled around, his ustream jumped to like 4000 and tehn i think like 4500 when he crowd surfed. im curious how many of those viewers werent people who watched diggnation at first and now were exposed to it.

Yes, it was wrong. The show started off at "who cares were doin all this this for fun" to "sponsor sponsor sponsor nomnomnom".
Gotta admit, this was epic:

You know the best part of this episode is going to see Leo crowd surfing! But to not let him back on stage was just rude. I get why he couldn't steam the show live but give the man some credit for what he did. Do you really think we would have diggnation with out Leo? No diggnation, I am sure there wouldn't be a Revision3. What should of happen was to let him back on stage and then thank him for being on, then say goodbye to him. Short and sweet. 5 minutes at most!
They knew he was going to be there and they knew he was going to stream it. Rev3 should of planned it out better. I am just disappointed at how Rev3 treated Leo.

I gotta say, I was fine with everything until they chased him off the stage after running back from the crowd surf.
Bad form Rev 3.

First off, I was there... Kevin and Alex brought Leo on stage (while still live streaming) and said if it weren't for Leo, Diggnation would have never been around. They have always given Leo tons of respect and credit for getting them where they are. They even got him to crowd surf while live streaming
Second, Digg is a business and the previous post about crowd reactions were certainly the case.. people boo'ed and cheer'ed for obviously stupid reasons last night and what sponsor would want to subject their image to that?
The edited and polished show will be posted online for FREE in a few days, just chillax

Actually, if I'm not mistaken the live show won't be release until next week, an episode recorded prior to the live episode will be released this week. I could be wrong.
On the subject of Leo getting kicked off, at first I was a little pissed, but after thinking about it, it's a good point. With over 4,000 people watching it live, if something went wrong with those sponsor reads, I'm sure they wouldn't be all that happy.

What exactly happened? How did they take him off stage?

Brad told him when he first got there that he couldn't live stream it, and after the crowd surf he told him they had another guest on. Not really a big deal.

Yes.. Digg is a website and a business.. Diggnation is a podcast (supposedly) about buddies who hang out, drink beer, talk about stuff and kinda "pimp" stories they've seen on Digg.com ...
BTW... didnt Leo "school" them on beer-chugging? ... that was pretty fast compared to some of their "chuggs".
as far as sponsors go... what if the highest ranked Digg.com video/story EVER.. was ripping on/a slam on ..say GoDaddy... or NetFlix.. would the story get ignored or removed or whatever?
ALL HAIL our corporate overlords!
I'm just sayin'
BTW.. I dont go to Digg.com.. I find it kinda lame.. I just follow the podcast because it's fun (usually when they arent trying to make a "product")

My gripe is that it will take so many weeks from now to watch the show. And I hope they, the sponsors understand this is was a live stream and Digg fans will watch live and then watch the real show later. The demographics and habits of viewers on Digg and the tech community are different then the TV Neilson crowd...

Why would it take so many weeks? It was recorded before this Wednesday, they can get it out.
