The Canon 5D Mark II had way better quality video then your other camera. I hope you guys keep using that one.

The problem with shooting the show on a 5D or a similar HD-DLSR is that we're limited to capturing about 12 minutes of footage at a time. Glenn knew this ahead of time and that's why we ran both cameras, so we could fall back on the other shot while the 5D had to be stopped & re-started. I'm a huge fan of the 5D, but it's much more practical for us to use it as our roaming "Prager Cam" (which we may start doing soon!)

Although it was shorter I liked this episode...

Maybe it's because they started talking about Single Barrel Jack Daniels, which just so happens to be my drink of choice ;)
...I have always wanted to buy one of the barrels of single barrel jack, one day, one day!

the canon camera looks GORGEOUS. it felt like I was watching Film Riot. How big of a CF card were u using to get that 12 minutes?

not a bad episode... they should have a few more stories lined up in case it runs short like this one. the 45 minute - 1 hour time is the best length. it felt kind of "held back" though... i think because the kid was there.

I was about to ask how did you guys get around the 12 minutes limit.

The limit is not the CF card size, but the fact that it's formated to FAT32, so the individual clips (file) can only be 4gb which works out to be around 12 minutes worth of 1080p video.

Well that sucks... Canon definitely was aware of that problem. I'm surprised they didn't support other, more modern file systems like exFAT or NTFS to get around that. Licensing problems maybe? That camera was on my "drool, i doez want gadget" list. Guess I'll wait for them to realize that people need more than 12 minutes :p

I can't believe I am the first. But, Where is that Digg app. I mean the show graphics showed it may be longer. Frighteningly, I have been looking for a digg app. I know they are out there. But, I also know Digg would create their own and likely free. Even if not free. I want the official one. I mean c'mon. Why anything else?

It wasn't on the app store yet earlier today but it's there now. I just downloaded it.

Am I missing something? Smartphone browsers cant view Digg.com so you need an App?
Guess I'm glad I dont waste $ on data plans and use my phone... as a phone. Seems "the squeeze aint worth the juice" if gotta buy Appz above paying for data

the app is free. and no offense but if u don't see how these apps are useful over going to the website in your phone's browser then you need to take a step back and look at the way things are going. Its not just about getting content to people anymore. Its about getting the content that is relative to a person's current situation (such as which device they are currently using) and presenting the content in the best way possible for that situation. The capabilities of a native app are far greater than the capabilities of a web site, and since the implementation of the app store apps are almost as easy to get and access as going to a web site.

and to say you use your phone as a phone... its no longer just a phone. Yes, it makes phone calls, but that is no longer the primary use for these devices. We still call them phones because we lack a better term.

But, of course, this is also the age of choice. If you don't want to use the app or see the benefit of getting a data plan for your phone, by all means use the web site. If that works for you then good for you.

I'm fairly ignorant on the issue (as why I asked).
From where I'm coming from....: If a website can be made to show between a 15inch monitor and a 24in monitor w/ varied resolutions then I dont see how its much different mathmatically from dividing to a 5 or 7in screen and different resolution. I do see needing something if site heavily uses a format that isnt supported on mobile devices (like flash). .. but then I think that if they were devoting a development team to making a non-flash version of the site for an app, that they'd make nonflash its own URL (like digg.com/nonflash/) for those either using a phone/tablet/pc(but os might have a problem w/ flash) or whatever.
Perhaps my brain is having a logic malfunction.. but then again... tech (absurdly) doesnt always follow mathmatical logic

Understood. Basically, an app has a few advantages over a web site. First, an app is run natively from the device itself, meaning it is made specifically to run on iPhone OS and the hardware underneath (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad). A web site must be downloaded, interpreted, and made to display properly on the device running it. This makes things slower in most cases. Granted, an app still has to download information, but it can be much more selective and download less information than a web site making it faster.

The second advantage an app has over a web site is the freedom and ability to use the device's abilities and raw processing power. A web designer must make sure that the site will work the same on all browsers for as many devices as possible. This sometimes means making sacrafices to get things to work (especially when working with IE6  or with a device that lacks flash or javascript). They are also limited to using things like flash and javascript to make the site rich. An iPhone app knows that it will be run on an iPhone OS device and it can use things like the camera, accelerometers, microphone, speakers, GPS, compass, and Apple's API to enhance the experience. It also has access to the raw power of the device, making things like 3D graphics possible.

I gotta say that I agree with Kevin when he talked about how internet shows and their revenue will be about equal to TV shows in roughly 10 years. I might put it at about 10-15, but still in that ball park.

If we look at how insanely far the internet and all these shows have come in the last 10 years (I mean, diggnation has only been alive for 5 years), then how is it impossible for internet shows to come on par with TV shows?

It's definitely something to look forwards to in the coming decade.

As far as i know the 5D MII can only record for up to 30 minutes? Did they have to interrupt it?

Alex mentions something about itat about 16:30.

what does "doing okay mean?" Both Kevin and Alex are accustom to Screen Saver dollars..... doing okay from Screen Savers money has to be well above that of an IT professional working 65 hours per week...no?

Just wanna add my 2 cents about having a bachelor party in Iowa city or anywhere else in Iowa... Iowa city is a big ten conference college town with crazy bar scene and plenty of corn fed Iowa ladies willing and able at anytime...also cedar falls Iowa ,which is where i live is a college town of the university of Northern Iowa who in fact beat number 1 seed Kansas in the NCAA basketball tourney...there are three strip clubs in the area and tons of good bars and great places to eat so don't knock Iowa till you tried it becuase you could be pleasantly surprised

De-clawing a lion or other big cat would help a little, but they play different than we do.
They don't try to hurt their "masters", they just don't understand that our flesh is more vulnerable than theirs.

De-clawing a big cat would also be pretty fucked up, as they make use of their claws to eat, etc. You wouldn't want to confine a big cat to a house.

My father and I almost had a Tiger. We had a good bit of property, and we prepared a section of it for the cat. They need to be primarily outdoors, where they can run, play, etc.

With that said, I had full intentions of letting it into my place (2 homes on the property), etc.
They get lonely and anxious a lot more than dogs do though. If you left for work, for example, when you get home, they'd almost pounce you out of excitement of seeing you.

Point is... Big cats are awesome, but prob. shouldn't be thought of as a "pet" option by 99.999% of the population.
