Say the Rev3 forums added google ads or some other ads on their pages. How would you react and what would you think of that move?
I have an opinion but I will give it only after a few people have responded.
--edit--
The title should say think, not thing. This is what happens when a gonzo poster posts a thread in the spirit of his avatar -- translation: OP was drunk, yeah we'll go with drunk.

uhmm.. i don't think i'd notice? And if i did, i'd probably just add them to my ad-block list.
Is there a reason you're asking?

I would actually pay the $5 a month to paypal to remain ad free!

Yeah, thats a good point. Hell, ads or no ads, if i wasn't doing the "poor college student" thing, i'd probably pay for a membership just so i didn't have to wait 'till the non-member release of Diggnation!

I'm sure something could be worked out where paying members wouldn't have to experience ads on the site, but probably still in the podcast, or some variation. Money needs to be made, and I somehow think advertisments would bring in more money than $5 a week.
Oh, and I changed the title for you.
i wouldn't care, they make money, and I get rid of them hehe

The forum is mostly to promote content. I'm not sure they could do that and also try and drive people to Google ads.

Why even bring this up? You occassionally see a banner ad on other fourms, but its not like they run massive numbers of Google Adsense ads either.
The minute you add advertising to a forum, it ceases to be a community bulletin board, and becomes a revenue stream.
NOW, putting sponsor ads on the downloads page would be an idea - and could result in extra cash for the advert in the podcast, along with a "print" ad on the site. But this should be limited to the individual podcast pages, and NOT be comingled with the forums.
Unless you are selling specific screen space, using google adsense on the forums could result in some questionable ads appearing that Jat and the powers that be would have zero control over, and the minute you lose control you might as well pack up and leave, because no dedicated sponsor is going to want to share space on a website with a competitors product.

As long as the service is still free for members there is no problem. =)
It should not be too "aggressive" like several pop-ups which open if a page is opened. The ads should fit into the design of Rev3, so that it looks "good" even though they are ads :D .

I wouldn't care either way. I'm used to seeing ads pretty much everywhere and I tune them out. Now I WOULD NOT want to see pop-ups. That would be irritating since sometimes you reload pages for active topics etc. and it would be a hassle to have to keep closing pop up windows. Pop-up ads would totally screw up the forums.

I don't think you would ever see pop ups here, ever.

I don't think you would ever see pop ups here, ever.I don't see popups anywhere ever anyway (unless I want them) ... or ads for that matter. I guess its a moot point.
