remote media PC access

i recently acquired an old PC from a friend with a bad HDD. Im wanting to turn this into a media center PC to play music through my stereo. My only question really is... is there a good way to control the media center remotely? it will be running XP and wont have a monitor connected to it. also the computer that im wanting to control it frim is running Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit.

Tversity, mediatomb, shared folders, NAS, you get the idea.

i currently use tversity to stream to my PS3 in a different room... so its not a problem of getting the music to the PC, its how to control it.. i.e. play, pause, next song, selecting a playlist.
