G'day All,

As one of the Rev3 mods, I'd like to welcome you over here.
iFanboy is a great addition to Rev3.

As you join us over here, if your old nick isn't available (either used by an existing forum member, or banned as part of our SPAMINATOR ERADICATION), you might want to let people know who you WERE and who you are NOW.

Again, welcome, and if you haven't checked out the rest of the forums (www.revision3.com/forum), please drop by the general discussion area, the tech area, or visit the forums for the other Revision3 audio and video podcasts.

Have fun.

I think you'll find that iFanboy.com (http://www.ifanboy.com) (and hopefully these forums by extension) are unlike other message boards on the web. Lots of fun, interesting talk without personal attacks and flame wars.

I hope to see you more around both places!

On the iFanboy forums I'm known as Luke Batt.

Please don't let the nickname fool you, I hate Star Trek, but I'm a firm believer that a nickname isn't chosen, it's given, Spock started as an insult that kinda stuck from me having a pointy ear and an extra unknown organ, that and I have been known to be very logical and calculating......

Jimski
02-01-2007, 02:12 AM
I am Jimski here; I am Jimski there; I try to be Jimski everywhere.

Jimski is basically my actual name; people (specifically Russian exchange students and then high school friends) were calling me Jimski before there was an Internet. In walking life, I am Jim ********ski. (It's very Polish and very consonant and very long.)

I have this thing againt identity theft and/or my boss Googling me, but I come as close as I can to being "me" by name online. I just don't want to be that guy who goes onto a message board and says, "Eff you, Quesada!" as WampaLuvr1789, prompting Joe Q. to respond, "I get where you're coming from, Mr. Luvr1789." I try to be able to stand by what I say.

Of course, a friend of mine has a personal message board on which I am "Admiral Snackbar." But that's just between you and me.

Well I am new to iFanboy. When I saw ep. 1 on Rev3, I got excited. Geekdrome was the only podcast I watched which had any comic talk in it, so it's really seriously great to have found this...or for this to find me. The episode with Brain K Vaughan was just perfect. It was like waiting all day at at hot festival and then finally someone giving you a cold beer.

So hello!

I used to post all the time on the Bendis board, but that place got to be a little "clique-y", so it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth as far as message boards go. However, this place seems to be really friendly, so I'm looking forward to checking it out from time to time!

Hey guys, my name is Eric and I've been listening to iFanboy for a couple of weeks now. Sadly, I've decided to start from the beginning and as of now I"m on one of the February 07 episodes. What this says about me and my amount of free time I'm scared to say but I enjoy the show, obviously, and value your opinion on each week's current batch of books.

I live in Lincoln, Nebraska (yay for the midwest) and work as an assistant golf professional. I've been reading comics since the mid 80's or so and got back into comics after watching the x-men animated series. I've been a huge Marvel fan until the time of Knightfall in the Batman books and since then I've just spent way too much money and tend to not give up on a title, much like Ron ;) Okay guys, just thought I would introduce myself a bit.

I can't say that I have anything of Conor's and I know how you feel, I was moving a few years ago and had an entire entertainment center get sucked out of the truck I was driving and crash onto the median while driving on I-80. I'm getting close to caught up boys, and I'll be much more active on the site once that happens.

Hello all. I'm Josh. I just registered here and at the Around Comics forums because I figured it was high time I started interacting with my two favorite podcasts. (I have previously appeared once or twice in the blog comments as "Josh S.")

I'm a hardcore comics fanboy from way back (about 25 years now...with a few long gaps of non-readership). Now I read just about anything I can get my hands on.

My current must-reads are:

Ultimate Spider-Man
Nova
New Avengers
All-Star Superman
The Brave and the Bold
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
...and I'm feverishly plowing through the Runaways digests.

Anyway...love the show. See you guys around.

I'll give an intro here. I've posted a few places already, but just to make it official. My name's Davin. I'm working in Silver Spring, MD right now and just graduated from Hampshire College. I got into comics again last summer and now spend much too much money on them but I'm addicted. I'm into Marvel, but I've gotten into the D.C. universe because of you all and am reading JLA, JSA, Batman Confidential, GL, and Robin now and love it.

Other than that, I'm a computer nerd with political asperations and my own website. And am currently in the process of moving and figuring out how exactly to pay my college loans off. Glad to be here though.

Hey, guys. It's good to finally get involved here as I am a huge fan of the show. I love the interplay between the hosts, because as the co-host of a podcast myself I know the value of chemistry.

But not enough about me. Let me introduce myself insofar as my comic book experience (and sorry in advance for my verbosity):

My first experience with comics came about when I was a young lad growing up in Texas in the 70s. On both my mother's and father's side of the family, I had uncles barely out of high school still living with my grandparents. As I recall, it was at my paternal grandparents' house that I came across a cache of Richie Rich and Little Lulu comics. I loved the idea of a story being told in a way unlike any I had seen before. I mean pictures galore! I'm an artsy-fartsy type (mentally-speaking - that is to say I'm just wired up that way), so I am extremely visual. I recall fondly the particular feel of the page compared to other standard books or novels; that newspapery grade of paper and the finely pixelated dots that formed the coloring. Amazing.

Those books were all well and good, but one day at my maternal grandparents' house, I discovered more intriguing content in the form of The Witching Hour and the original Ghost Rider incarnation. I had no idea that the stories I had started with were on one end of a very exciting spectrum of this particular style of story-telling. Sure I knew about Spiderman (from the stellar cartoon series of the 60s as well as his inexplicable appearances on The Electric Company - oh, and those awesome TV movies with Nicholas Hammond!), Superman and my favorite: Batman (yes, from the campy series with Adam West), but I never knew about horror comics. I didn't even know what the horror genre was.

I carried those memories with me (as I was in no position to afford comics of my choosing, much less locate a comic store) into high school in the early 80s when I got a subscription to Uncanny X-Men and Batman for a couple of years (which got me the original Year One story line from Frank Miller). It was then that I branched out and tried different books to see what was out there. Exciting times.

As fate would have it, in college (in the early 90s) my apartment was right next door to a comic store. I really experimented then, diving into just about anything that looked interesting. Being artistically inclined, I have always gravitated to artwork as opposed to dialog or plot. Silly perhaps, but I can't help how I'm wired up. Certainly most people would say that a good story matters at least as much as the art, but I can barely make it through even the best story if I don't like the artwork in a book. Call me a stickler. My role models were/are the likes of Jim Lee, Travis Charest, the Kubert brothers, John Romita, Jr., J. Scott Campbell (don't laugh), Todd MacFarlane, Frank Miller and David Mazzuchelli. Since then, Adam Hughes, Tony Harris, et al.

So these days, thanks to the encouraging and informative words of Conor, [Big Shirtless] Ron and Josh, I head to my local comic store (Bedrock Comics in Houston, TX) once a month and check out their recommendations as well as peruse the TPB section for what I've been missing all of those years while stumbling through the medium on my own. Thanks guys!

So that's it and there it is.

Horns up!

I didn't want anyone to think I was just here to promote my podcast, so while it is a significant bit of information about me, made relevant by the fact that we're all fans of a certain other podcast, I figured I'd not mention it specifically unless someone asked.

And since you asked, I co-host the Genghis and Ragman show over at The Right To Rock (http://www.therighttorock.com/). It's a fledgling podcast about two beer-drinking metalheads. We've even managed to interview some relatively big names in the heavy metal music business. We just wax philosophic about our favorite genre of music and do a little shtick from time to time to keep it interesting.

Thanks for asking.

Horns up!

Hey all. My name is Scott, coming at you by way of Omaha, NE originally. I currently live in Austin, TX and get my books at Bee Caves Comics down there.

I joined, but realized I don't have much to say, seeing as I'm few weeks behind on my reading. Currently in Berlin for 5 weeks for work. However, I'm catching up on trades in the meantime (Fables, Walking Dead, Sandman, Mousegaurd) and reading Gaiman's "American Gods" while I'm here. Patiently biding my time until I can devour a month's worth of reading in a couple of days upon my re-entry to the states.

Like a few of the posters upthread, I'm a few weeks behind on the podcast as well. Tempted to just listen to these past few weeks anyway (spoilers be damned) seeing as iFanboy podcasts are what I listen to in the gym, and I've run out of them.

I'm a member over at CGS as well. Huge Heroclix player, so you'll find me on HCRealms and Creationmatrix under the same name, Iceman425.

I'm a big fan of Top Five lists, not a Zombie or a Fanboy (I enjoy it all), and I even pick up a good number of Indies in trade format. I came into the game as an X-Men fan with the first Nimrod Saga (poor, poor Leland) and stuck around till the bust in the mid-90's. Came back to the bookshelves when they launched Ultimate Spidey and Ultimate X-Men.

Since then my horizons have expanded and most of my favorite books reside over at DC. I'm young enough that Wally is my Flash, Kyle is my Lantern, Tim is my Robin, and Connor was my arrow. I'm old enough to respect Barry, Hal, Dick, and Ollie. Usually I pick up team books, something about the dynamic with that many characters, but I started picking up Flash (ouch), Green Arrow, Green Lantern, and Nightwing even if they're not my guys.

Since I'm such a fan of them, here's a top 5:

Top 5 Reads from last year:
Invincible
Walking Dead
Nextwave
52
New X-Men

I should've really broken it down into Marvel/DC/Indy cause there really were an immense amount of good reads over the last year. Oh well, that's for a different thread.

I guess that's more than enough for now. Thanks for reading, see you on the boards.

Hi all,

Just joined up tonight by way of the podcast. I finally figured out how to get podcasts on my ipod (never claimed to be bright) and in my infinite geekiness I looked for a comics podcast. Which of course led me here.
Obviously I am a comic fan (Marvel) and I live for Wednesdays which is kind of sad. Right now I am giddy in aticipation of World War Hulk, Nova, New Avengers (was real tempted to ask for spoilers), New X-Men, and Sub-Mariner. Also excited for FF2: ROTSS this Friday. Hopefully much better than the original...at the very least I get to look at Jessica Alba for a while :)
Also interested in video games, baseball, hockey, movies, music, tv. Love Heroes and Lost.

Guess that is a short intro to you all.

Hello,

My name's Kaylon. I work as a graphic designer in Tryon, NC, and I currently reside in Greenville, SC. I bloody love comics. I've been reading them since I was 7 years old, when I stumbled upon a spinner rack in a drug store. Besides being an art freak and comic fanboy, I'm also into cartoons, music, movies, tv shows, old school video games, and action figures. My favorite ongoing series of all time is Starman by James Robinson and Tony Harris (as well as lots of other great artists). Right now I'm really digging Invincible, Dynamo 5, Captain America, Noble Causes, Daredevil, New Avengers, JSA, X-Factor, Iron Fist, Astonishing X-Men, and The Spirit.

I reckon that's probably more than y'all needed to know. Oh well.

That's right, too new for an avatar (so if i pick wolverine as my avatar, will you kick me? please?)

ARGH! all my friends are gamers or sci-fi geeks who claim that comics are for the illiterate (this comes from a fan of Xanth novels  ) I once managed a comic shop, so I hated paying for my books for a while, even claimed to hate them in general. I was a tool. But I missed the chatting (even the who would beat who banter that drives me nuts). Your program has reinvigorated my love and helped drain my pocket of all that annoying cash (idea...have marvel and dc approach the US Mint to have a 2.99 dollar bill printed to ease my purchasing...oh wait...tax...oh well.)

BTW, my only comic buddy is my long term girlfriend, auburntlight, who is also new to the forums. I'm gonna go write some comments in the relationship discussion about our mutual obsession.

Been a comic fan for most of my youth and got away from it in the late 90s (like many others). Got back into it about a year ago now that I'm grown up and can afford the addiction. I'm more of a Marvel Z but since my return to reading I'm trying to give DC a real chance.
I love listening to different comic podcasts and find the IFanBoy reg and video podcasts to be one of the best. Keep up the great job guys!

Hey all...have been listening/watching for a couple months now so I thought I'd better stop on by and say Hi...used to collect in college (starting in '91 - Big Jim Lee fan) while in Art school but then lost touch with it until I ran across a comic store that happens to be in one of the towns i work in...picked up a few and after reading Kevin Smith's "Quiver" I fell in love with them again because it reminded me of digging through my cousin's comics when I was a kid...

...Love the podcasts and find them very helpful while entertaining at the same time...

(Actually picked up the first three trades of Batgirl on my initial trip cause i liked the style and was surprised at how good they were)

Favorite heroes when I was a kid...Batman, Green Arrow, and Spiderman...

Welcome to the party Grayson and GM_will!

P.S. I'm hoping that you don't die in Final Crisis.
I personally think I'm going to die, but be brought back after the Crisis is averted. I'll probably have my history changed though. I'll end up being an albino eskimo that was banished from his tribe, and only joined the forum so I could try to feel the same sense of belonging I had pre-banishment.

Welcome, gm_wil!

Thanks...I just about crapped when I heard you guys talk about Breyfogle (spelling) 'cause he was and probably still is my favorite Batman artist...took me way back that's for sure...

G'day all.

I'm from Australia and have been into comics since the early 80s when Dad would bring home Australian reprints (by Federal Publishing) of DC comics from work. Mostly Superman and Batman, some JLA and other books, all in black & white! They would collect 5-10 regular 22 or 23 page books (as printed by DC) into a jumbo-sized reprint (like the trades of today) except most of the time they would either print them out of order or skip some issues altogether - frustrating!

I stopped reading for a while in high school but got back into them while at university. Due to my early introduction to DC I'm a huge DC fanboy but now I read a fair bit of Marvel (except the X-books) and some indie stuff, too.

Love the podcasts, both audio & video and have been lurking here for a little while.

But anyway I love the IFanboy podcast. I started to read and collect comics in the late 80's early 90's but I have readed many older comics. Greeting and Salutations
I’m crunch (nick name from the Army) AKA Chris. I live in Colorado Springs, CO. I am a Army brat, and have lived in 13 states and 2 countries. I started reading comics in the late 70’s, took a huge break from the 90-06. I read a few graphic novels here and there. I want to say it was picking up the walking dead trade #1 that got me hooked again about a 8 months ago. But anyway I’m back. Somehow I stumbled across iFanboy and I love the podcast.

Hey, guys! I'm new to the forums, but I absolutely love the show.

I listen to a ton of podcasts while I'm drawing (especially ones about comics), and iFanboy's always at the top of my stack. Your analysis is always spot-in, and you always make me laugh. :) Keep it up!
