Diggnation this week comes to you with the help of a few tequila sunrises (sans the grenadine) and a lovely photograph of Jennifer Aniston. The guys delve into the top dugg stories including Apple's iPhone screen-protector ban, what a quad-core CPU is REALLY for, a Lion King toy's pervy fail, why a salad costs more than a Big Mac, and news on Google: a new approach to China and who says, "f*ck the analytics!"

Ever try Tequila slammers where in a 4 oz glass ya put 2 oz of tequila, a dash of grenadine, and the rest w/ 7up or Sprite (7up works best as is more carbonated).. cover the top (a cardboard coaster works well), hit the bottom of glass on the table and then down it right away as the carbonation will literally "shoot" the drink outta the glass and down your gullet.
Not quite the "top dugg stories" as 1 or 2 only had 450 or 500 "Diggs"... As I dont really care about Digg (they could also cover interesting stories from MSN or Yahoo and I'd be just as happy, prolly even more-so because they'd have more of a "pool" to get intersting things to talk about and give their "semi-insider" views on (but that wouldnt "pimp" Digg.com which this show turned into a commercial arm of Digg).Anyone else remember the 1st audio -casts of Kevin and Alex hanging out after TechTV and thinking "WTF. why not stream this" and Kevin talking about leaving G4 and Digg and sorta saying "hey.. I saw this crazy story on Digg.. whaddaya think?... then later.. "we should stream/post alittle when we hang out because people seem to be viewing".
Hint: It wasnt that you were talking about Digg stories. It is a combination of: buddies letting loose and partying together.. and guys that are(were) "semi-insiders" talking tech.
You could put this on YouTube (to defer bandwidth distribution costs sorta like Kev does w/ "The Random Show") and I'd still watch (ads and 1 sponsor might pay for Alex's flight to SF). I dont know.. but IMO beats 7 or 8 min of ads after 24 min of show which they seem to "phone in" anyway when trying to make a "monetized" production. Arent your cameras paid for by now?
Last story about salads... I've known this for years as I've managed a food delivery shop and had to maintain/order stock. Salads are the moneymaker.. you can make 4 or 5 salads out of a head of lettuce that u pay less than a dollar for. Then ya might put 3 slices of cucumber, maybe some gratings of carrot along w/ a 1 or 2 oz container of dressing (20 cents at most).
In the food business you generally need to work at a 33% food cost to pay employees/rent/utilities etc... but salads are generally 10-15% cost. I luv a salad.. but for $3-6 bucks I better get more than lettuce.. I want alittle cucumber, afew Green bell pepper slices, alittle onlion, maybe some bacon-bits/a chopped bacon slice (whats the cost of 1 bacon slice? 2 cents?).
My advice: get your lettuce and afew veggies once a month from the grocery store/farmers market and make 3 or 4 salads for 2 bucks instead of 1 for 4or5 bucks (you might even get "healthier" vegetables)

I netflixed Food Inc last night per Kevin's suggestion today and this was a great film, the sensationalism typical for a investigative drama documentary was also surprisingly low. I highly suggest anyone to view it. You will _not_ view your food in the same way again :)
I've read Schlosser's book and also seen Fast Food Nation but it didn't create such an impact as Food Inc imo.

iPad seems like it would be perfect for them on the show. Easier to handle, and flipping around to show pictures and stuff would probably be easier. I want one :(

Saw Food Inc a while back and it did make me more aware of the food I was eating but it didn't change what I ate but, when I shop I feel myself actually looking at labels more often. I've been to a real chicken house and it's just as it seems but you cant fight the system.

If you guys are going to continue to make these episodes in huge bunches (which sucks btw but I've already made my opinion on that clear many times) can kevin at least get the fucking stories straight so we don't have to watch 5 minutes of him every episode fumbling between tabs saying "is this the story? no wait... that was two episodes ago that we just filmed 20 minutes ago. is that it? no... prager?" This is another reason why batching episodes is a horrible idea.

We watched Food Inc. over the weekend and it helped my wife and I make a point to our teenage boys. Sunday, when we went shopping, I made the joke of "Let's have a corn burger, some corn fries and wrap them in corn paper in a corn bag." They started to laugh until reality set in...... We all had organic salads... They are now requesting organic everything. It's a good feeling to tell them "We have been that way for some time now."

I think "Magic Piano" by Smule
There are now not one but two permanently dead pixels (camera?) during the show.
It's distracting.

First off, I haven't seen the movie, although I have it queued on my Netflix, ready to watch on my PS3.
I do have the general idea of what's going on with our food and internationally from many of the documentaries that I've watched from my government/economics classes in high school. It got be aware of processed food, growth hormones in milk, and high-fructose corn syrup
Whenever I do eat something with HFCS, my throat feels a little weird, as if my throat is slippery, but a little scratched at the same time. (Snack chips, ketchup, soft drinks, etc.)
I do think it's about awareness and knowing what you eat, because it's tough breaking bad habits, whether it's smoking or eating fast food or junk food for that matter.

Yes, having Ipad review or would be cool but after that back to basics, the show would not be the same with them using Ipads from now on. with windows 7 and some good hardware like Falcon and Alienware, You cant say apple is superior anymore. Keep the MAC/WIN show going. Its what makes the show.

I wonder if a Jessica Alba autographed photo would make Kevin's nut explode. Only one way to find out...

They won't be able to use iPads to do the show normally because they would have to hold the things up the whole time with one hand. Add into that the lack of flash will cause problems when trying to look things up. And the whole lack of multi-tasking and limited tabs in Safari.
Sorry but I agree with Patrick Norton in the iPad being an expensive toy.

if you haven't already you should try the throwback/heritage pepsi, mountain dew, and dr pepper that are out now. soda (or pop if you are one of those people ;)) is horrible for you in any form, but i like some soda from time to time. those sodas are made with actual sugar and not HFCS so you don't get that thick sticky feeling. the actual taste of the soda doesn't change, but the texture is different making them more pleasant to drink...its kind of hard to explain. they are pretty much the only sodas i drink anymore.

Jones Sodas are sugar based as well (odd flavours though - not everyones cup of tea so to speak) ... and if you have a Mexican supermarket in the area, imported Mexican Coca Cola (I did have Mexican Coke, but I guess that has a different meaning) is sugar based (I'll take that over the Pepsi/MD throwback).
The mouth feel of sugar vs HFCS is hard to describe and needs to be experienced to appreciate.

My wife & I watched that Food Inc movie over the weekend, after hearing about it on this show, and we have now started to buy just about everything organic, even though we can't really afford it. That movie is a shocker. I figured it was like that, but what really got to me was how much the FDA scaled back their inspections over the past 20+ years. My wife is now on the verge of becoming a vegetarian. We looked at the meat we buy at the grocery center yesterday, and to our surprise, it said plain as day on the package "no growth hormones (+ a few other things) were used in for this product". I don't really know how much I can believe that because we saw some chicken from Purdue Co. that said the same thing. I was under the impression that Purdue Co & Tyson Co only used growth hormones for their products. They couldn't falsely advertise that, right?
Either way, it'll definitely make you think twice about what you buy. Good documentary for sure.

I'm not sure if the 'roided-up chicken was exaggerated or not. Those cooked chickens you can buy seem pretty small.

i loved this episode, and I had no idea why. It wasn't until I watched it again for like the 4th time that ... most of the stories were tech stories.
