Even tough I really think Dollhouse was a terrible show, I would really love to see this happen. I really liked Buffy and Angel, and I loved Firefly and Dr.Horrible.

And with a hands-on producer like Favreau. This could turn out great!

It's the dream combo, but I worry that we'll get insane amounts of hype as a result. Everybody already has hopes of the Avengers movie being the greatest superhero film ever, so Joss is setting himself up for a big fall if he doesn't deliver on those hopes. It's a mammoth task for someone with little experience of tentpole releases. *fingers crossed*

I don't even know if anyone could pull off The Avengers. It could end up being the most epic film ever made (production-wise), even moreso than Avatar.

I think the thing with Avengers is the biggest thing behind it, is the could be one of the first large universe of films. There's franchises and such like Bond, Harry Potter, etc. But they are films under one name. These movies are the first comic like situation. They have an existing universe established in existing movies being led into one larger film. I can't think of any other time where something like this has been done.

As for Whedon, directing I think it could be a good fit. He does do ensembles real well. Especially giving characters enough attention that they're not neglected. I hope this is the break he kind of deserves. I still would have loved to seen his version of Wonder Woman. He writes great female protagonists.

this film is gonna have the biggest amount of hype around it when it comes out. not to mention if this film earns huge amounts of money(which it probably will), Warner Bros. would really have to get some Justice League movie going cause that's the next thing people will want to see

So word on the street is that Whedon might also rewrite Avengers AND Captain America.

Am I the only one that doesn't want him near this? And I'm not even a big avengers fan...

For the sake of discussion, why wouldn't you want him to do it?

For the sake of discussion, why wouldn't you want him to do it?

Various reasons...some not logical (like having a visceral reaction to people seeming to go ga-ga anytime his name comes up)

I loved Firefly (moreso after the DVDs came out and I got to watch them properly)
enjoyed Dr. Horrible
love/hate Serenity (the River bad-assery was great...but the fucker didn't need to kill off two people)

Buffy? no thanks...liked the movie, but the parts of the series I have scene were way too cheesy for me...hence I never saw any of Angel either.

Dollhouse, I wanted to try, but the previews and marketing and actress just made it so i couldn't get into it enough to attempt watching.

There are 2 questions that spring to mind when I read the title...both ludicrous. "Which avenger would he kill off?" and "Will there be a scene that turns into a musical?"

If he has any other work, I'm not familiar with it...so that could be part of the issue as well. He seems to do better at original stuff of his, though.

That's a strange take on it.

He likes to kill characters. When you got a TV series that runs for 4-5 seasons, and it's an action show, you need to keep that sense of danger.

Serenity was a sort of swan song for firefly. He wanted to touch his audience, his method was killing off some liked characters.
I don't think he succeeded with Wash. But when he killed Book, it certainly made me hate the villain in the movie.

Try and look at his qualities.

Does he know comics? Yes. He is a comic book reader. He knows the Marvel universe. The avengers. He won't have to play catch-up.

Does he know how to handle ensemble casts? Yes. He's never done anything but that.

Does he know how to write comic book heroes? Does he know how to handle a team? Yes. Yes. Yes. Read Astonishing X-men. In my opinion, his run on that, was some of the best Marvel has ever produced.

Also. Remember that he's not going to be the chief in command on this. Favreau is producing, Marvel is there. He won't get to kill off Captain America.

He might kill Wasp though... :D

I was thinking he might kill off Thor if the movie bombs...or Pepper.

And yes, I was ok with Book....that fit, but Wash was a slap in the face and the main cause of hate side of the movie.

Firefly was great, but it was never half as good as Buffy.

I'm excited.

I do have one fear though...

Giant spiders.

But back on topic, my only concern is that Joss loves to infuse humor in his stuff. And Chris Evans (playing Captain America) loves to ham it up. So I really hope that combination doesn't lead to Cap becoming comic relief in the film.

I trust that Joss has enough respect for the material to not let that happen though.

Didn't Whedon have a run on avengers? or was that another group? All I know it's a Trade I wanna get but keep forgetting to. I think Whedon would be a great pick because he knows how to work with a "group" of characters.

It was Astonishing X-Men.

The trade is fairly awesome, and well worth the purchase if you're into superheros.

I agree. At least for me it is going to be hard to go in thinking that the movie, no matter who does it, will be good. I have never seen a movie with this amount of characters that is anything good, there is just too many important characters to focus on. But I would love to be wrong. I am sure the movie will be fun, just don't know if it will be good.

It might be more interesting if the story was split into three movies, almost like a lord of the rings. So each character can really have some development over three movies rather then shoving in a bunch of story lines in one.

We got Thor, Iron Man and Captain America as the major characters. And then some minors.

And there're plenty of ensemble cast movies. Ocean's Eleven, Serenity, The Matrix and a bunch of other movies features a team of characters.
