i went to bestbuy today (as i do on many occasions) and saw what i have seen on my previous visits. The floor cage that holds all the gaming systems is FULL...with Sony PS3s and Sony PSPs. No DS lites, Wiis or 360s to be found; just an absurd amount of PSPs with dated boxes and 3 untouched PS3s. WTF SONY? (and don't blame it on low cash after the holidays because many people where walking out with 46"+ lcds and plasmas).

You must realize that their launch line-up was dismal at best. The only remotely good looking game is Resistance:Fall of Man, which is a game that doesn't merit running out and picking up a PS3. But later down the line when you have the new Metal Gear and Final Fantasy XIII they will sell like hot cakes. Now I will admit no system really has a great launch line-up, but there is always one game that merits buying the system when it first comes out, but the PS3 is lacking that title. It's not a bad system by any means, they just do not have the games to justify a $600 purchase. The only reason why they were so hard to find before was because of everyone getting them to eBay it.

lately Sony has just hit the fan. Their ps3 is over-engineered, blu-ray is another one of those "universal media disc" and minidisc private crappy technologies. I don't hate Sony. I was more than willing to dish out cash for the ps2 and other Sony products. they try to be too different just to own large parts of the market with their own proprietary stuff. They are like Apple but without the "yum" factor. Metal Gear will bring up sales, but one game can't save a console. i think a re-release is in order.

To quote someone from a diff MB...
Sony has had a bunch of misses these days.....yes they were once the dominant player in the portable music player segment, but Apple is now. Sony's MP3 players are overpriced and they suck. The first ones couldn't even play MP3s....you had to convert them to Sony's ATRAC format first. Sad considering they invented the Walkman.
Other examples of misses? TVs. A huge, huge one. They got so late into the flat screen race...they were still spewing out Tube TVs while everybody was transitioning to flat screens. Sony had to partner with Samsung to catch up. Their computers are money losers too. In fact, the only profitable business Sony had recently was Playstation. And it looks like they may goof that up too.

Well the PSP is a terrible handheld gaming system but is fantastic as a media device.

DS has sold 35 million worldwide over all and 27 million game in 2006
PSP has sold 19 million worldwide overall and sold 2 million games in 2006
We still have our PSPs at my gamestop I work at from last summers shipment...yeah sony is just going further downhill.

The PS2 was such a great system too, it's sad to see what the company has become.

i have a DS and i would buy a PSP but i am just not willing to pay the price for it. I would pay 129 like the DS for something just fun to mess around with

Don't bother with the PSP really, unless you're going to use it to watch movies or listen to music. There are a few good games for it but not enough to merit the still high price, then you have to buy a good size memory stick etc.

I have a PS3 (late Christmas present) but I am giving it back. I felt guilty because of the cost and I couldn't accept it. I did want a PS3 way back before the Xbox 360 was launched and held out for it for a while, but after considering many factors after it came out, I decided I'd get a 360 with the first price drop (which had seemed to be soon since it was going on sale left and right everywhere and now seems to be confirmed). Shortly there after, I recieved a late PS3 Christmas present, but the price is just too insane. My g/f got it for me with some games and accessories and I just couldn't accept it.
I don't think I'll miss much when I pack up the PS3 and it's gone. It was nice to have it for a while, but it really didn't show me anything that a 360 or decked out PC couldn't do.

A fantastic media device with almost NO way to get media on it. SONY's attempt to lock-up the media stream doomed the PSP as a media device.

Best thing a PSP is good for is Homebrew and emulation. I should know, I own one.

Hmmm.... I remember seeing that happen with the Virtual Boy(which I have:( ).
The only games that interests me on the PS3/PSP is Metal Gear Solid 4/Metal Gear Portable Ops. Although good games neither is worth the price tag of their systems to play.

I had one that broke, I would of liked to play Portable Ops but oh well, I'm not about to buy another one.
