Kevin and Alex need to do the show without power cables. It just looks better, and it's only an hour long program. The battery life of their machines should allow them to do the entire show without worrying about juice. Anyone with me on this?

I kind of agree, I mean it doesn't annoy me, but it does seem like the cords get in the way a lot. maybe that's just the way they are about laptop power. I know a guy that will not, absolutely will NOT, plug in his laptop until it's almost dead (like 1-3%)... even if he's sitting right next to a power outlet. I've asked him before if he does it because he thinks it's extending the battery or something. He told me that he just doesn't see the reason to plug it in when he has juice in the battery.

Me niether, but You probably have to think they do takes after takes sometimes so maybe their laptops die.

I do exactly the same thing. It does work!

Keeping the battery topped off at all times is not always the best thing. Every so often you should let it completely die and then recharge to keep it in good shape. I'm no battery expert so I'm not exactly sure why this is, but it seems to be the general consensus. However doing this excessively and unnecessarily as your friend does is definitely shortening the battery's lifespan.

It depends on the battery type, NiCd, NiMH or Li

NiCd have a memory, NiMH and Li don't, but they all work and charge slightly differently

anyway

it isn't just one hour shows, they are filming 2-3 episodes in a sitting

factor in breaks, production related stops, retakes, etc and 1 hour is now 5 hours

true, but its almost certainly a lithium-ion. i've never seen a laptop that uses a NiMH battery we are all very lucky there are no NiCd laptop batteries.

The cables aren't an issue for me, although i do agree that there probably isn't a point to it other than they need them juiced up for the two or more episodes they film at a time.

I got a really high quality drill from my dad for xmas

later during the day i was showing it to my family, then i noticed it had a NiCd battery... 2009 xmas... NiCd...

I was like WTF is wrong with these assholes, my family were just looking at me like WTF? its just a battery?

it's quite clear they are taking advantage of tradies who dont know what NiCd, so they just think the battery is dying when in fact they just arent using it properly

that or matika is just being cheap fucks

Matika is cheap, they are nice for a while but not built to last. They are on sale at every home depot cause they are cheap and come in two different sizes. You got a cheap make.

Re:Drills ...

I gave up on cordless drills. Never have the lasting power or the overall torque of a good corded drill. I have a Ryobi corded drill and a DeWalt screw gun (its like a drill, but used for driving decking/drywall screws).

I still have a cordless B&D drill that I use - rarely, and a cordless B&D Screwdriver that I use all the time.

Rage? umm okay you must of read that way different then I put it down ha. The drill works well but it isn't a great make. You were asking so I explained..

Dewalt is a good make of drill. They usually last quite a long time and have quality bits.

This has literally never bothered me. Ever.

This quote rounds out this thread really.

But, I have this in mind about my own laptop/desk and cable layout, but it serves me well in the long run.

The fact that it bothers you that it doesn't bother them, worries me about the treatment of your eventual children. Then again, your children don't much matter to me. So, I don't care about them either.

not lazy, smart...Smart? So, what do you do with the Dremel?? I have always found the Dremel to be a half assed solution to the job - it tries to be so many things that it is all about compromise and does nothing especially well.
