View Full Version : Call for Help/TSS-type show?

That is what's really lacking from Revision3. dl.tv is a good example of this. The show is full of news and knowledge and they take viewer questions as well. From what I can see, Pixel Perfect is the only educational series on Revision3 right now (system is good as dead).

meh I just watch DL.tv with Patrick Norton and Robert Heron.

The problem with that show is that they always, ALWAYS, go on a tangent about HDTVs. I now have encyclopedic knowledge of every display type known to man thanks to Robert Heron's akward ramblings.
"But I digress,..." I have always liked the idea of a call-in type show, the problem is that in order for this to work, you'd have to raise the bar for the quality and complexity of the questions and dramatically increase the workload for the production crew, and potentially hire new staff. (Call me Prager.) I'm not saying they couldn't do it, its just that they'd really have to buckle down to get it all rolling.

I don't know, it is a good idea, but I want it to be made with other techtv podcast/IPTV stations, not just one. Maybe if UndoTV ever launches and Rev3 gets on it then all of the major stations (tWiT,Rev3,Ziff Davis employees,Cnet, and the stand alone ones like Lab Rats and CommandN) should make a Weekly or two times a week call in show.

I think leo already has this covered with Call for help (you can download it off the tracker), KFI, Net @nite, etc. Another good one is Buzz out loud where they just talk about tech news, not tech problems. I hate DLtv because of the constant rambling. All I hear during that show is "aspect..fjlaj...lcd.k..resolution.fkja" and then I turn if off.
What I think would be better is if all these different groups joined together to do one tss type show instead of several half assed ones. Leo and Kevin were talking about doing this on net @ night a couple of months ago.
God do I wait for that day.

I cry every time I remember the screen savers is gone. WHY! why did they have to get rid of it.

B/c TechTV and G4 merged, which sucked, but then if they hadn't Kevin might not have invented digg . . .

Kevin had Digg ON the TSS at one point, search Digg, you'll find it.

A show like dl.tv on rev3 would be great. I mean anyone who watches dl.tv (myself included) would switch for a show that is just a hair more professional and focused. Same content is fine, just a bit (not a lot) more serious.

If Kevin did a show like CFHorTSS that would be awesome... he's kinda made up for it somewhat, specifically Dark Tipping, but I want some real knowledge based shows that I can learn from. Diggnation is sweet, thebroken is awesome, but they need something more (and maybe it will help the business anyway).

There's Indigital, I HIGHLY recommend watching it.

I'm glad that you guys all know about these shows and are throwing these names out there. After TSS tanked and G4 was trying to bend Leo over I was in total boycott of the new monstrosity that is the G4 lineup. As much as it hurt to go cold turkey I assumed that the majority of the cast on the previously mighty TechTV had vanished and Leo went soley to Canadian broadcast. It's good to know that I was wrong and I finally came across Revision3 a few months ago after discovering Digg as well. I'm pretty late to the game but at least now there's plenty of content to fill my time :-)

A show like this may be out of the question for now - DL.TV has a big corporate backing known as Ziff Davis(i believe, too lazy to check) and while we could do it here at Rev3, doing that live and all that may not be worth it. Who knows, down the road it could happen. As for now I think entertainment should be the main focus.

While entertainment is the most plausible basis for a show, I think the idea is perfect for the niche market. If you think about it there was no place for former TechTV viewers to go other than the internet and start watching these shows. Broadcast TV in America is missing CFH/TSS, even after the show was seeing success there's still no competitor or imitator. I think that speaks loudly to the capabilities and knowledge and true inspiration of CFH/TSS and it's crew. I would love nothing more than to see these come back in full swing. If only corporate would see the true value of this show and not just mindlessly absorb it into the vast demographic that is the modern gaming culture.
Makes me sad. :(
The problem is they would have to construct a set and purchase lighting equipment. All that costs moneys.

A CFH or TSS type show could work and not be live, instead of call-ins there could just be letters and e-mail questions.

I agree. It wouldn't need to be that difficult. A set is not completely necessary and neither are live call-ins. If call-ins were necessary they could just post a the time that they're going to shoot the show with a number and one could just call and talk to them that way. It wouldn't have to be live. Sure live is fun, but it would be more of a hassle than it would be worth. A tech show like TSS wouldn't be difficult to make on Rev3 and it almost seems to be what is missing from the lineup.

TSS was the best when they had Martin on. His "Twisted Lister" and Site of the Nite segments were awesome.

Yeah, if they do something like Call for Help and just take emails, then they could probably manage to come out with an hour show once a week or more. It seems like a pretty good idea, and really it doesn't seem like it would cost them a lot of money either.

If Rev3 would come up with that type of show I would watch. I like DL.TV but everyone is right by saying that Robert always goes on some HDTV rant about something. I just wish that Leo, Kevin, Patrick, and all the old TechTV crew would ban together and come up with one network all run by themselves, I mean Leo has done that and he is almost a one man band (aside from the co-hosts on the shows). If they would come together and make a 1 to 1 1/2 hour show maybe once or twice a week, that is all I need.

Now that Patrick Norton has left DL.tv and is coming to Rev3 after the birth of his child this may just happen.
On a side note CFH/LwL is not a "live" show. They tape the shows ahead of time and they call the callers. People submit questions to their site and they choose who they want to talk to. This could easily work for a Rev3 show.
TSS was a live show with live callers, which is much more difficult to put together and keep running smoothly. Of course it is still a possibility. Rev3 is basically only missing a few people before they have all the old Tech TV crowd working for them. So here's to hoping that the old Tech TV will rise from the ashes like a glorious Phoenix and set G4 to blaze and burn them to the ground.

What? Isn't Kevin the founder of Digg? Is he just trying to play it cool when he talks about digg in that video? He is like this is how 'they' do it and such. Making it seem as if he has nothing to do with the site.

Probably got something to do with him not building it...just having the idea.
