There's been a lot of criticism lately about the recording schedule of Diggnation. (filming weeks in advance.) Whilst, I think that it's barely tolerable to have a two week old "news" show - it's pretty unacceptable to have the current show was filmed BEFORE the previous episode.
I'd only say cause it's a really good podcast and I'd hate for it to loose steam after all these years i've watched. Definately would like to hear thoughts of other viewers on this.

Unacceptable to who? You? Well your personal opinion doesn't equate to anything more than mine.

they are both very busy people, As they have both said in about 2 episodes now. Plus being on the J. Fallon Show, It hasn't really ever bothered me though.

i had never heard that they tapped multiple episodes at a time or that they tapped them weeks in advance at times. The first I heard was on the Fallon ep. Where they said they were taping an ep for diggnation at the squarespace offices. then the ep was shown the next week. It was very wierd for me.
I never knew that stuff was going on. They could at least edit that out in post.

it's unacceptable for them to claim on the show that it's "this week's top stories" when they are filming weeks in advance and filming out of order. My issue is them still claiming that Diggnation is a "news" show when it clearly isn't about that at all.

Diggnation is a weekly tech/web culture show based on the top digg.com social bookmarking news stories.
Blame the people who make the old news the top stories on Digg, THEN blame Kevin and Alex for picking them.

jesus, people knock it off.
this is the whiniest fucking board i have ever seen...
of course it sucks that they record like 10 episodes at once, but what're you gonna do? it's not like diggnation totally sucks now, you can still watch it, i do at least, and a lot of other people too. if you don't like it anymore, don't watch it anymore, but please don't go on the forum just to bitch about what has been bitched about a hundred goddamn times.

you're missing the point: I still watch it, still like it. It's not that bad. It's not really a fundamental problem with the show just something producers should take note about. The forum is about showing your constructive criticism about the show too, you know. Feel free to disagree with me.

Well, I get that.
But the thing is, this same topic has been discussed (probably really) a hundred times. The first time this started was I think around episode 170 or 180 or something. Now we're at 250. If the producers haven't taken notice about it over the course of more than 80 episodes, honestly I think they never will.
Also I think Diggnation has gotten far better. It used to be really shit at around episode 200.. like 180 - 200, those episodes just sucked ass, but they've really gotten better again. And I think at this point we should be happy with what we have. We're never gonna get 'oldschool Diggnation' again, except for some episodes here and there (like ep. 243, that shit was gold) and I think that's ok. There's about a 120 oldschool episodes that you can always go back to and watch again.

I almost don't even want to post about this stuff anymore since its been said about a million times, but I think I feel up to it...
They shoot at least 2 episodes a week, sometimes more. Is this a problem? Some people say no, others say yes. Just to get the disclosure out of the way, I am one that does think its a problem. I will admit that the show is not really a news show, it a show for entertainment. We are entertained by their unique commentary on the news stories, not the news stories themselves. That said, I am much less entertained or even interested when they are talking about a story that is more than a week old. This is the internet. Things come and go so fast that it is hard for something to hold interest for very long. Stories get very old very quickly because they are usually over-covered and analyzed to a pulp within a few days. Its not that I wouldn't find the commentary about these stories entertaining, but it almost sickening to have a story commented on again after it has come and gone for a week or more. It's like someone telling a chuck norris joke or trying to rick roll you. It may have been funny at one point but I want to punch you if you do it now.
"Diggnation covers some of the weekly top stories on the social news website digg.com." They were the weekly top stories, but when we actually see the episode that is no longer the case.
I realize that both Kevin and Alex are very busy guys and it is obvious that it takes less time to film two episodes or more at the same time, but I don't find this to be an acceptable reason as to why they have to do it. They can't be too busy to do their jobs. I can't tell my employer that I have too much stuff going on next week and that I'll have to squeeze two weeks worth of work into a week. It doesn't work that way. If you are too busy to do your job then you probably need to prioritize a little better.
To the people in this thread that post complaints about people posting complaints... you know what, I don't even need to say it. If you don't see the irony then there is no hope for you.

In the end, what it comes down to is will we keep watching Diggnation as long as it airs? I feel safe saying on everyones behalf, yes.

don't assume. I used to make an event out of watching diggnation. Now its just something to watch when I'm bored. Thats about as low as it can get before I don't watch at all. They are doing nothing more than milking it dry right now.
I also think that most of the people who blindly defend the show now are people who haven't been watching since episode 1. Its kind of like how underage kids like the cheap beer. It's because they don't know any better. They haven't tried the better stuff to know what they are missing. I'm not saying everyone who defends the show is like this, but I'd be willing to bet a large majority is. Look at how apeshit everyone went they tried a super drunk oldschool episode not too long ago... they loved it.
As they get closer and closer to the end of the show, whenever that may be, they need to think about how they want the show to be remembered. At this point in time, to me at least, it will be remembered as a podcast that coasted its way through after the first 150 or so episodes.

Its comes down to if your watching this show for Tech news, you will always be behind. Watch Tekzilla or something. But if you want to be entertained and be jealous by Kevin's shoes.. then keep watching.

its not the point of being behind on the news... its the point that because it is behind on the news the commentary is also old. The show is the commentary.

Of course.. like I said before. Watch the show for the entertainment purposes and not the news. Obviously the commentary is old because the news is old. But you watch it to get entertained. And it isn't usually more then a week or two old anyhow.

Just to point out, that's what the web site says. In the actual show they always say "covers some of the top WEEKLY stories from Digg.com" implying that this weekly show is staying current with the news from digg.

I understand that we do not watch it for the news, so in that respect it does not matter that the stories are old. However, my point was that we hear the news over and over the first week after it happened, and we also hear all the commentary...so much analysis and commentary that its overwhelming. By the time we hear the diggnation coverage of the stories my eyes are rolling back in my head because I'm saying "oh god, not this again." Take the iPhone leak story for example. They were correct in guessing that it was over-covered, but that still didn't take away from the annoyance of having to hear that again because they are so late to the game. This is not old media. They act like they are pioneers of the industry, yet they don't "get it." This is the internet. If you can't keep up with things then you will be left behind.

You summed up what I was thinking very nicely. I totally agree. And i understand now what your saying about old stories being brought up. So I take back my comment from before ha

i started watching diggnation because i assumed it was like a weekend review, or sunday round-up
(like in newspapers, i know diggnation comes out wednesdays.) which is totally fine if it was actually the current week.
that said, i enjoy the commentary/banter/alex's quips/kevin's tea/everything hippie glen, and its why i'm watching the show, but i totally understans OP's issue, usually a topic has been over for ages and i can't remember my first impressions on the article.
thats not to say i don't have current impressions on whatever the issue is but i would prefer if it in a more similar time/mind frame as kevin and alex, like MasterQ pointed out, they are "far too late to the game".

maybe they should finally bite the bullet and change up that little intro thing explain the idea of the show.
"Welcome to diggnation. Me and alex picked some stuff we thought was cool. we may or may not have actually read the story, and we may or may not be filming and then airing this in the same week."
haha either way i dont care. they could talk about something from years ago and i'd still watch. it's about hearing what they have to say about the subject not how old the topic is.
