Anyone else subscribe to Netflix, I've had the account for probably 6 months or so, I really like it, I'm actually considering moving up to 4 dvd's at a time, cause i'm going through the 3 pretty quick and having to wait (plus I have over 400 in my queue) But the only person I had as a friend on there dropped his service, so if anyone else has an account and wants to be friends on there, let me know...

I've been a Netflix costumer since before by daughter was born. We live about a hour drive from the nearest distribution site so the turn around time is about a day. We don't have a lot of time to watch DVDs so the one-at-a-time plan works perfectly.

I'd love to be your Netflix Friend, but I not sure that I can do it anonymously.

I think i can send you the link to add me as a friend, I believe the only thing it will show me is your name and whats in your queue, but I totally understand. I'm not sure if they have a way of changing the name that people on your friends list see, since I worked in the same office as the last person on my list...

the first ones under my name are my digg profile, my myspace, and my clothing line... so yeah, no mystery with me either... and my name is fairly common...

Never tried Netflix, I did the blockbuster online thing and wasn't too impressed. I was using it strickly for some older TV shows that blockbuster didn't have in store and I really didn't wanna have to search for the torrents of. I cancelled it after a few months. Now I hear they've got this "Total Access" package where you can still rent 3 dvds at a time from them online and when ever you return one of the dvds you've been mailed to an actual BB location they'll let you rent one from the store, for free, and still keep the ones coming that are qued up on your account. I live like 3 miles from a BB location and my wife drives by it everyday on her way to work. For us that sounds like a better deal, providing I understood everything correct. I'm sure I'm missing out on some minor detail about it.

I've been a Netflix member for about 3 years now and I love it. I used to have the 3 at a time plan, but I upgraded to 5 because I went through them so quickly. I have 266 movies in my queue right now.

I'm also interested in Blockbuster's plan. I had it once a couple of years ago, but it was in-store only (no mail-in). I like the idea of getting DVDs sent to you that your local store doesn't have, but still being able to turn them into the store to rent others.

I had a similar thread (http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3185) over in the Geekdrome forum.

After weighing up the options, we cancelled HBO, SHOWTIME, CineMax, and Encore on our cable box. That saved us about $40 per month. We just weren't watching enough of their programming (even in HD).

SO, the question became Netflix or Blockbuster.

Both have comparable pricing packages.
Both have distribution centres that are "1 day turn around" for me.
Both have a similar selection of movies.

The kicker for me was:
Blockbuster allow you to return the movie to the store, allowing you to pick up a new movie (either on or off your list - just remember to can it from your list if you pick up in store :) ) - suddenly your "3" movies become "6".
Blockbuster have monthly coupons for a free rental - video OR games.

Given everything else being equal, these were the ones that sold me on Blockbuster (Access Pass) over the Netflix option. It wont work for everyone, you need access to a brick and mortar store.

yeah I forgot about the coupons you'd get each month with the BB plan for FREE rentals of either a movie or a video game. Now your making me rethink going back and signing back up with BB for that total access pass.

I had both Netflix and Blockbuster at one time. Netflix throttled the hell outta me after I was returning movies "too fast". When I used Blockbuster, I liked their service and free in-store movie rental coupons. Eventually I cancelled because I stopped watching so many movies.

Now when I want to rent a movie, I just go to Blockbuster and keep a 2 day rental for like 2 weeks thanks to the no late charges. ;)

I've had Netflix for only a few months, since October. So far the 3 at a time plan works great for me. Sometimes I have time to watch the movies the day they arrive, other times they collect dust for a week or so. Later on, I might upgrade my plan. As for my queue, I only have 28. I had 100+, but it became a pain to keep track of when something caught my attention.

I just upgraded to the 4 at a time cause I have over 400 in my queue and it always seems on the weekends I end up without movies, i'll see how the 4 works out and maybe go up to the 5 until I get the queue down some.

We could all hang-out for movie night. But, Indiana is 12 hours away from here...

I was thinking about it. Only because it's faster than downloading via torrent. Easy receive, rip, burn, then send back.

It depends. What are your movie rental habits. It's not for everyone. But, obviously, a lot of people love it.

i never rented a movie before netflix, because I lived too far away from any place that rented them, plus I had to worry about taking them back based upon my work schedule, I did get movies from the library for awhile, but they didn't have much of a selection, so netflix has been perfect for me, plus I'm like WAY behind on watching movies, I NEVER go to the theater, i've seen 3 movies in the theater in the last 8 years probably... So i've got the 4 at a time currently and 400 in my queue (yes I realize it will take me at least 2 years to get through them!!)

My wife and I are die hard cinema fans. For us there nothing like the movie going experience. Enter my daughter about three years ago. Ironically enough, we were on our way to the movies when she went into labor. The number of movies we've seen in the cinema since then I could count on one hand. So, we're set up with the 42 inch HD DLP rear projection TV and the Netflix account.

We look forward to returning to the cinema when our kids or older or we find a baby-sitter.

i'm one of those "comfort of your own homes" people, we only have a 27 inch flat tube, with 5.1 surround, but still, i like it...

Sure, some movies need the big screen or are enhanced by the feelings from the audience, but others are great on a home setup.

Recent recommendation: The Illussionist
Ones to avoid: Snakes on a Plane, and Crank. I REALLY wanted to like both of them, but they stink worse than a bucket of prawns in the sun.

I just watched American Pie: The naked Mile... I knew a guy in the movie, so it was kinda weird!

Seeing a movie with the right crowd can make or break a movie for me. Of course, the big-screen TV forgives the lack of crowed theatre many times.

You won't get as many as you think because once you hit a certain number, both services will start to throttle you...I think that happens around 10 per monthish?

I have Netflix though the better Blockbuster deal has weakened me at times. I just can't get past the fact that the company will probably be out of business by this time next year, ya know?

What do they do? Stop sending movies?

jjallday

Yes, in essence, they do. You go from your normal pace of getting movies as fast as the DC can get them to you, to a much slower drip of having to wait a few days to get movies.

There's actually quite a bit of press out there about this, I think it's even been on the front page of Digg at some point. If you search a little you'll find it. Netflix and Blockbuster used to deny this practice existed, but now I believe they've even changed their TOS to reflect their right to do so.

I use to do blockbuster and in fact find their selection a little better, but, I have a PS3 now and a HD-DVD add on for the 360 to go with my new HD TV so I had to go to Netflix since they offer Blu-Ray and HD-DVD rentals. Blockbuster really needs to start that service.
