View Full Version : How did you find iFanboy?

I was litsening to this week's show. Ultimate X-men #78 (great show, despite the illness). And it got me thinking about the first time I had stumbled upon iFanboy. The POW was Ultimate X-men #66 (thus the connection). I was looking through Podcasts, namely for comics, having just gotten back into comics only a year prior and having no one to talk to about it. Being a huge "X" fan. I decided to try iFanboy and a few others. iFanboy turned out to be my favorite I had alot of catching up to do with the show (which helped because I went into the hospital soon after and had something to litsen to). I have been with iFanboy ever since (making it a year and few days now.) So I'm just wondering how other people found iFanboy.

I found it in iTunes along with several other comic book podcasts. iFanboy was the best. I've since begun to listen to the others again occasionally but only when they have great guests like Alan Moore(fbr) or Bendis(wb)

Exactly. I like Pipeline and The Collected COmics Library as well.

How did I stumble upon ifanboy.. Good question.. I think I was looking for podcasts on itunes and stumbled upon it. I also listen to Pipeline. I think the one where Augie was a guest when they were campaigning Augie to be the editor of Wizard was the first podcast I listened to. Or was it seeing them on comic space.. Its been a long day.. Its one of my favorite podcasts I listen to when i'm at work.. :)

I just found them recently because of the rev3 move and the new video podcast. I remember subscribing to the audio feed in iTunes once upon a time but I can't do the audio podcasts really. I get bored too fast. That being said, after I saw the video I re-subscribed to the audio podcast and have been enjoying the last few releases.

I heard of it before but didn't get into it until I saw the video on Revision3 and I must say that although I don't know much about comics I enjoyed the podcast and will continue with it.

I found iFanboy on iTunes as well. Personally, I think this podcast and the About Heroes podcast are two of the best comics related shows out there simply because both show's casts are knowledgeable, express their opinions, and (most importantly) they make me laugh.

You can thank Geekdrome for my presence in the iFanboy world. I started listening on the episode where Jonathan London (I still say Jonathan got more flak than he deserved, that episode is still a good one) guest hosted, and have since listened to EVERY episode, all the way back to one.

Honestly the best (not just my personal favorite) podcast I've ever heard.

I found iFanBoy when jLo from geekdrome guest hosted and I've listen to ifanboy every since. I also didnt understand why Johnathan got all the flak, maybe cuz i came from geekdrome and knew him already?

I'm guessing so, since I feel the same way. I remember one voicemail caller in particular was pretty miffed.

I think even the people that disliked the Jlo episode must agree it was good for ifanboy. I, like a lot of others, tuned in for the first time when Jon was guest and I was hooked.

ifanboy must of gained a good few new fans thanks to the episode and I can't believe they would of lost any fans because of one episode.

Going back and comparing it to the normal iFanboy episodes it doesn't have the same feel or flow to it so I can see why long time fans of the show would dislike the change but I enjoyed it.

Wow! I've been listening to iFanboy since about episode 30 or so. I've spent some time listening to older episodes, but not too much time. I stumbled on it thanks to iTunes and my searching out comic book podcasts. I think what you guys are doing is great and it gives some of us a chance to listen to "real" fans and not read about their opinions on various web sites (despite the fact I have one). I think the recent addition of video podcasts to the iFanboy scene is great and loved the first one.

JAFlanagan
01-23-2007, 05:37 PM
It was definitely good for iFanboy from the point of view that we got some new people to check us out. And if anyone left because of that one show, we'd have lost them by now for some other dumb reason.

But we learned from it as well, since we just weren't used to having a guest on, and the flow was interrupted some. You learn from every experience, you know?

And if nothing else, we've got a great supporter in jlo himself, and we all really appreciate that.

It certainly hasn't put us off guests in the future.

fred
01-23-2007, 07:14 PM
I think that it wouldn't work. I think Darrel's genius is in his brevity
If he began to actually have opinions or statements that made sense it wouldn't be nearly as funny
you run the risk of that happening in the space of a whole segment

I agree. I think you guys need to have him call in for at least one discussion.

Please don't. He had his glory in the episode where he called in like 3 times. I felt like the act was getting somewhat tiresome. He seemed very sharp, so I guess I wouldn't mind if was on for a normal discussion, but please just not in character.

There will be someone besides the three of us on one of the two shows very soon.

I too found the site via iTunes. A daily, lengthy podcast that used to get me through the workday suddenly started charging and I thought, "Ummm... well, I really like comics. I'll search for 'comics.'" I subscribed to four or five that night; two remain. I knew I'd found a winner when I saw the episodes listed and all the picks of the week were books I'd read. I must have hopped on in late November of aught five.

About that jLo thing: I really, enthusiastically enjoy both the podcast and the site. So much, in fact, that I keep waiting in dread for something to spoil it. Like, I keep waiting for a bunch of a-holes to start posting in all the forums and arguing with one another or something. So when the fellow in question appeared, I confess my first thought was, "Ohhhh, here we go. This is how it starts. Here come the interlopers. Katie, bar the door."

Plus... Mr. jLo seemed a little too "on," which is fine when it's your show, but as a guest... I dunno. He seemed like a nice enough guy. I always meant to go find his show to experience him on his own turf.

But see, then Augie (who I already listened to and like a lot as well) came on and everything was fine. The world didn't end; nothing talksploded.

(I'm pretty sure Black Bolt and Augie have the exact same voice.)

When I started listening, I didn't realize that the PoW had only been a podcast for like a month, and the reason I didn't realize it was that these mother hubbards sounded like they were old pros right out of the gate. I subscribed to some other shows around that same time that were on episode 100something and were full of dead air and bad editing. The iFanboys don't give themselves near enough credit.

That's not to say I don't like other comics podcasts; I do. But they're oranges to iFanboy's apple.

Someone (I think Ron and maybe Josh) used to write a zine called Muddle and I thought it was one of the greatest zines ever. So when I hit Muddle.com back in 2000 (they'd quit the zine, i guess.) it had a link to Ifanboy. I checked it out, liked it, and yeah.

Lest we haven't made it clear, sans the Dude, there might likely be no iFanboy today. He is the wind beneath our wings.

Hmmm.... I was hitchhiking in Australia drawing the landscapes, places and people, staying at this place in Rockhampton, I was wondering what was happening in the Comic industry, so I hooked my laptop up to the net and started downloading the DC Nation podcasts (I had only seen up to like week 3 of 52 and that was about a month before this), while downloading the DC podcasts I found out that the San Diego Comic Con had just happened, and having watched Mark Hamill's "Comic Book - The Movie", I thought I might do a search on what people thought of it, low and behold I stumble across the iFanboy Comic Con Video Podcast.... the fact that they placed Robert Kirkman on such a high pedestal and the obscure un-fanboyish way of interviewing the comic creators, I was addicted, I thought I might check out their podcasts just too see what they were like, so I downloaded the Escapist #2 POW Podcast and a few of the previous ones before going offline and continuing on my trip.... after I got back to New Zealand, I went back and have been listening religiously since

I found iFanboy on itunes a little over a year ago when I was first getting into comics. I was so overwhelmed with were to start. Without them I'd probably only be reading 2 or 3 titles. They seemed to know what they were talking about and now 75% of what I read now is because of iFanboy.

Got an iPod as a graduation gift. My parents are huge CBC Radio One (http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/radio/) fans so I grew up on intelligent, thoughtful and conversational non-music radio (I won't even deign to call CBC talk-radio). My first thought was to go looking for good podcasts that relate to my interests: comics and movies. iFanboy came up quite high on the iTunes search. Ever since I've gotten back into comics (after the seemingly obligatory college drop off) I have nobody to talk comics with and the iFanboys definitly hit the spot for that. It's like having three cool comic book reading friends that are constantly telling you about new interesting books|artists|runs to check out.

Thanks iFanboy.

I was gearing up for my tonsillectomy back in September and I decided getting back into comics and picking up some trades would be a great way to get through the recovery (in a horrible twist, I actually don't like ice cream, the time-honored staple of recovery). I was just searching for random podcasts, opened up iTunes, not comics related per se, and for some reason iFanboy popped up. I took one look at that Kirby Avatar, the one that Conor still uses, and I instantly knew this was the show for me. Not just because it was Kirby, but because the three kids pictured with the headphones and microphone, in a scene Kirby always depicted well, just told me what the spirit of the show was. That and the fabulous reviews of the show I found when I clicked on the icon on iTunes... I've heard all the shows (lots of time on the trains here going to and from work), and they are always entertaining. I have tried other comics related podcasts since, but this is my only regular one.

It's like I saw a cover of a comic that really spoke to me, read the issue, loved it, then bought all the back issues and I'm waiting still with great expectation for the new one. I tried other titles/podcasts as a result, but (whatever) I dropped them off my list, or they sit in my iPod awaiting the time when a daily podcast I like ends at the end of February. Those are time killers, this one(and the forum) has me actively engaged (can you tell?)

You guys mentioned branding in the last show: I'm telling you, that Kirby kids on the radio Avatar is perfect, and really sums up nicely the dynamic of the three of you: just three smart kids having fun putting out a radio (podcast) program. How I found about Ifanboy is kind of ironic. I had just gotten back into comics and bought an Ipod at about the same time. Being recently returned to the fold, I started picking up Wizard to see what was going on. I was reading the letters section and one of the letters mentioned the Ifanboy podcast. I hadn't really used my Ipod at that point to listen to podcasts. I went online and found the site and started listening. It happened to be the show where Augie was a guest. I remember being a little confused when I listened because Augie did the opening and then you hear Josh in the background saying "Who the hell was that?" The ironic part of this story is that after listening and discussing comics here for a while I have turned into more of a reader of than a collector of comics and have since dropped my Wizard subscription.

Tangential question:

Me? I signed up for rev3 when I discovered Tekzilla a few months ago. After that, I started watching other rev3 shows, including iFanboy. (That's not actually true. I've been listening to iFanboy since like #35 and I signed up here the day that they announced it.)

I listened to Geekdrome once and didn't love it. But now Dan's on TRS and I love that show

I discovered iFanboy through the iFanboy site, sat on that for a while, and then headed here (They had already been with Rev3 a while). It only took a day or two here to branch out into TRS, which I don't catch nearly as much.

I came here for Geekdrome back in the day, and have been on and off posting since.

I came here because of Geekdrome, but only posted a few times. I started posting regularly because of iFanboy.

Found iFanboy on an iTunes search. Curiously, didn't click with it until I saw the first San Diego videocast. Then started listening regularly and watched the videos from the start. Ads led me to Diggnation and the Totally Rad Show.

Tried Pop Sirens but didn't stick with it... despite myself.

Found Ifanboy through Rev3, but came to the board purely for Ifanboy (although the name was registered from a year before that. I think because I wanted to make a snarky comment on the diggnation board once.)

Come on people we all know why we're here, its Conor. Let's not kid our selves ;)

Found Ifanboy in my search of something to listen to while playing WOW. Listened to like Five or Six shows on my first day and well it went from there.

I came for ifanboy. I read mostly graphic novels but still like to listen about the monthlies so that I know what is new and hip. Plus, I am opinionated and love to meet new people and argue with them.

I came through iFanboy. I think I found them on iTunes after buying an iPod. Started listening to various podcast, but iFanboy was the one I kept coming back to. I don't think I even visited their website until they were talking about it in prep for Comicon or something. Checked it out, then found my way to the forums.

I have checked out other Rev3 shows, but only after getting my iPhone (previously I only had a nano with no video capability). I've never posted in another Rev3 forum. I'm sure they're all fine, but I like the conversations here. You guys are my people. :)

I used to dig the Screen Savers when Kevin and Alex were on it, and every so often I check out diggnation. Came to Revision3 to watch an episode and noticed the iFanboy advertisements and I gotta say so far I can't get enough. I just moved awhile back and until I can find some local people to talk comics with, this is a great hold over.

I looked through Rev3s shows. I remember I first saw it at Ep #1 on the web page, saw the three dudes on a couch, and was like "F*** that" but after reading the Watchmen I went back and watched every episode.

I was just scrolling through iTunes looking for comic podcasts to add to my re-immersion campaign when I came across Tom Katers: Guest Host. I love his other podcasts, so I checked IFB out and I've stuck around ever since.

I think I decided to STAY around after the episode with the "Black Panther: Bad Roommate" breakdown.

I discovered IFanboy when BKV mentioned (on his now defunct forum)that the guy picking The Escapists #6 as their POW. As I recall the pick was unanimous. I figured if the guys could recognize the brilliance of that mini, then they would have something to offer me which they have.

I just wish I had more cash to throw their way.

I was on another comic book site: Pulp Secret. (which ironically is now cancelled)

I got tired of the bias nature of some of the panelist and I went on itunes to find another podcast. Ifanboy was the first choice and I started on the 'New Frontier' podcast from earlier in the year. Joined the site 2-3 months later, and the rest is history.
