Just noticed on the moderator thread in the general section that there was a suggestion that posts could be voted down like they are on Digg. I don't know about you, but that is one of the reasons I don't post on Digg anymore. I am a PSP owner and I enjoy reading about them. It's apparent with all the Digg DS fanboys that PSP owners are not welcome. I like Geekdrome in that we are all individuals with differing tastes that are able to have reasonable discourse without having posts disappeared because they don't match the forum membership’s collective groove. I certainly hope that this does not happen but I'm not sure where I would go about posting such a request. Implementing something like this would not necessarily make me leave immediately, but if it had a negative affect on our conversation like I think it would I'd leave with my head hung low. Let’s celebrate our differences with good old fashioned friendly derision, and not a numbered voting system, or disappeared vote.

Fear not. It ain't gonna happen. Aside from having to basically re-code the entire site, this is also not digg, where the stated purpose is to filter out the crap. This is a forum, where the crap is forced upon you, and it's up to each of us to either spit or swallow.

spit, swallow, and crap should not be used within the same sentence...it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

There is the option to rate the threads on a 1-5 star scale, it's just not opperational right now.

and maybe that's what I was looking at... this would effectively do the same thing. I hope this will be left off. If someone has issue with something I say I hope that we'll either PM or post in the thread the issues that we have... or god forbid a mod is required that a mod address it.... ratings are just elitist and will push people out of the forums.

Yeah, but that rating doesn't really do anything, in terms of who sees the thread. It's just a standard feature in vBulletin. And, yeah, it doesn't work right now, and it's not high on the list to fix...

Comment modding up/down has its purpose, but not here.
A feature the new board software has is the ability to assign karma points to a post if you think it was a great post - thats about as far as it goes, and it hasn't been implemented here (but it could be).

Dude, I can't give you a good vote on your comment. I keep clicking, but nothing.

Anyway, I remember there being a karma system on VBulletin, but wherever I've seen it implemented, it really didn't do anything helpful.

exactly! The site that I mod on (johnromero.com) had the karma points, but we turned it off... it simply made people pissed at each other and leave because no one knew where votes were coming from and as members karma was low they left. All I am asking is that we leave it turned off as I can't see it helping anything.

I'm perfectly fine with the way it is now. It's how most of the forums with this software have it configured and have seen no problems with it. I foresee that this wouldn't be a problem here, either.

I agree! Flat tax! er, no. I mean... no karma and voting!

I enjoy just seeing the latest updated threads. Why do they have to go and **** with it. I don't want to see the same old threads over and over again on the front page.

Well put.

It's pretty lame that you have to lengthen your responses to at least 10 characters...
