With the iPhone 4 shooting in 720p, I'm really interested in grabbing quick interview clips and such for the kinds of projects I work on. Will be so much easier than carrying around our studio rig. Planning on taking an audio recording along to capture better sound, then syncing the video and audio (with a slate, of course).

Can't wait to start trying, but my question is...is there such thing as an iPhone tripod and if so, where are some good places to shop online for them?

The best tripod for the iPhone is probably the Gorillamobile (Joby GorillaPod). It's currently only for the 3G/3Gs, but I'm sure they'll update it to work with the iPhone 4.

Not all 720p is the same. How large is the imaging element in the iPhone? How big is it in the camera that your school has? How compressed is the video? Quality of lens? Do the math please.

Obviously a 720P iPhone 4 quality is going to be nowhere near the quality of a DSLR or video camera. That's not the point though. With a Zoom H4N Mic and the iPhone 4, it makes a really nice travel interview device. You don't need spectacular quality for that.

In my experience. The 720P video coming from a DSLR is not as good as the 720P video coming from a DLSR because of the damn compression.

I'm well aware that 720p isn't "it" as much as just looking at the megapixels of a camera isn't. I'm really not videoing the type of content that requires this much detailed research. I grab less than 1 minute on-the-spot interviews and they are shown on a projection system, followed by posting on Vimeo. Just quick and dirty...but of good quality.

Exactly what I'm doing for.

It would be cool to see some films all done on an iPhone 4.

Here's a great mount for the iPhone. I'm hoping they make one for the Touch soon so I can use it with my old gorilla tripod:

Also, I've already dared Ryan to shoot an entire episode on an iPhone or Touch. Anyone want to bump that up to a double-dog dare?

I found this. Owle Bubo (http://www.wantowle.com/) I got one but havent really used it as I am still in preproduction. I hope to start shooting in Late January. It can do all sorts of stuff. I hope Ryan gives it try! Check out some of the videos.
