I'm really excited about this book. I'm a big fan of Jeph Loeb and I think Bianchi's art is usually pretty good. I can't wait to see this and I think that this will be what I've been looking for in Wolverine for quite a while now.

A brief recap of the recent past of the Wolverine book
1) Issues 1-18 by Greg Rucka - amazing
2) Enemy of the State by Mark Millar in 12 parts - ok
3) the few other Millar issues -pretty good
4) the Way period - horrifyingly bad. Way has perfected decompression
5) the Guggenheim/Ramos CW arc had a good story but some of the worst art I've ever seen - absolutely offensive

Also, Wolverine Origns, and I'm leaving it right there. I promised to try not to say anything more about it online and so far(10 days) I'm doing pretty good.

What do you think?

I'm a huge Wolverine fan. I'm excited about Loeb as well. My only fear is this whole Wolverine/Sabertooth battle they keep hyping. Now, I love the battle there as much as the rest, but we've seen it so many times. We know Wolverine won't kill Sabertooth, you can't get rid of that character. The only other options are stalemate or Sabertooth beating Wolverine.

There is nothing I hate more than seeing that.

So, to make a long post short, I'm going to buy it. I am very excited but I'm a little afraid as well.

Fred, you forgot issue #41 by Stewart Morre. Possible the best single issue of wolverine I've ever read. If anyone finds it in a shop i highly recomend buying it despite the double cover price

that was really good. so was Millar's concentration camp one shot.

I'll never get over how good Rucka's run was. I talk about it all the time. It was really something special. I felt like it really showcased the fact that Wolverine is an animal and a killer but that he also has a heart and does the right thing. It was very a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do and I love that about him

It was soooo good.

So good.

Before the CW tie-ins, that was the last time I bought a Wolverine comic.

The issue with Wolverine and Nightcrawler in the bar is still one of my favorite issues ever.

-----

Logan: "Three days ago I killed twenty-seven men."

[Kurt stares, speechless.]

Logan: "Not much to say to that, huh, Elf?"

Kurt: "You were enraged?"

Logan: "All the way to the bone."

Kurt: "And these men, they had earned this rage?"

Logan: "You're looking for an excuse."

Kurt: "No, my friend, I'm straining to understand. Because if you tell me that these twenty-seven men were innocents all, then you are everything you have always feared yourself to be. And you would have to be stopped."

Logan: "And you'd stop me?"

Kurt: "No. But I would die trying."

-----

Man, still gives me chills.

I haven't read it yet, but it's Lobe and he usually produces solid books, so we'll see. Hopefully it won't be a re-hash of the millions of other Wolverine/Sabertooth fights that have been produced over the years. I mean, writers tend to either use that device or the time-honored Weapon X plot device -which, in my opinion has also ran its course.

I guess that's why I liked Rucka's Wolverine run so much. It was a great respite from the typical Wolverine stories that were being produced.

Man, still gives me chills.

I just got chills reading that again.

I wish my comics weren't in storage so I could reread that.

It's not Loeb that scares me. It's actually the opposite. I expect to be let down because Wolverine's been kind of rocky lately and Loeb is awesome. I love the Marvel color books, The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, etc

Ugggh... This comic was not good.

Did we need to see another Wolverine/Sabretooth Fight that gave us nothing? NO!

And that bonus story at the end??? Loeb's hate letter to Canada and Wolverine's beginnings!!!

Loeb should stick to DC (I loved all his stuff there) and leave Wolverine to the likes of Millar who actually had some stories to tell.

If you like smart Wolverine stories skip this... it isn't one.

Now, I love action in my Wolverine books, but I miss the talking.

I miss the days of Wolverine's voice narrating the entire story. It brought depth to the character that you couldn't in the X-Men books, the whole reason he had his own series.

As far as I understand this is suppose to be a Wolverine/Sabertooth Year 1

It may ultimately be that but the first issue takes place now. I just finished reading it. I was not burned. It'll be in my full slate of reviews later on.

For those of you interested, here is a link to a podcast/interview (http://www.aboutheroes.com/content/2006/08/about_heroes_episode_28.php) with artist Darick Robertson. During the interview he kind of alludes to why Rucka's Wolverine was done away with and what his reasoning was for drawing Wolverine the way that he did. It's really interesting stuff.

I have always loved Loeb's stuff. His work even way back to Liefeld's Awesome comics was.....well.....awesome!
I haven't read any of this series, and plan to make this a regular in my monthly pull-list. I saw in a solicitation that McGuiness will be contributing a Hulk ? Wolverine story to this issue.
As far as the conclusion of the Wolverine / Sabertooth grudge, I am hoping it will be resolved. I just viewed Marvel's April solicitations and #53 still has this storyline continuing (concluding?)
One more thing that folks out there might be able to help me out with: Daniel Way. I heard the iFanboy podcast this week, and there was a reference to Way just not being good (or even pleasant).
Can someone give a brief rundown on his Wolverine run - Origins and Endings, as well as his current work on Wolverine: Origins. I saw Marvel has a TPB scheduled for April, and was considering purchasing, but after thsi week's podcast, am having second thoughts.
Cheers,
Marcus

On Daniel Way and his treatment of Wolverine
I've pledged not to talk about it anymore because in general I get pretty worked up about it but I can give you this:
http://www.google.com/custom?q=daniel+way&hl=en&lr=&cof=AH:left%3BL:http://www.ifanboy.com/images/ifanboy_sm.gif%3BLH:29%3BLW:95%3B&domains=www.ifanboy.com&sitesearch=www.ifanboy.com&start=20&sa=N

This is a google search of the iFanboy.com website. This returns about 30 items. Most of them are me explaining my feelings on Daniel Way

Fred - checked Way;s message board - it has been taken down. I will not press the issue further with, based on emotions I gleaned from from reading thru iFanboy message board. Cheers, Marcus
