Hey Dan,

Thanks

Many of you have been comic fans for a while so you probably forgot what it was like the first time you picked up a comic. Well as a kid comics never interested me but the characters and stories did. I know X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman and lots of others from cartoons and other things. But never had the urge to pick up a comic.

But when I heard about Preacher, the story intrigued me. I'm a huge western and sci-fi fan so if I was going to like a comic it'd be this one. I picked up the first 2 trades off of Amazon because there's 1 comic shop in Lincoln, NE and they didn't have any.

This last weekend I got them in the mail and I lost about 4 hrs of my weekend reading through them. I picked up the first one and just couldn't put them down until I had nothing more to read. I've ordered the rest of the trades because I want them all here so I don't have this week lull in the story.

I'm not saying I'm going to start picking up comics every week, mostly because I don't have the time to dedicate to it. I'm a TV and Movie whore but over the summer when there isn't any quality TV on I'm definitely going to see what else I like in the comic book world.

It's an interesting world that's opening up to me. And I'm enjoying it.

Thread moved ... the Geekdrome area is fairly quiet since the demise of the show, but the iFanboy forum is loaded with active and knowledgeable comic connoisseurs.

Poke around this forum for awhile, and hopefully a couple of the iFanboys will come answer your message. I am in a similar situation ... so will be interested to see their recommendations.

Preacher is really good. It stays that way throughout the story too. It certainly doesn't wind down - at least quality wise. The only bad thing for me is that I could never read it again because of some of the things that happen later in the book. I could never feel the way you're supossed to in the beginning again.

There is a lot of great stuff out there. There's actually another thread here dedicated to new series' and what people should check out. It's at

Ah the irony. Before stuff was moved out Geekdrome because other sections were inactive. Now stuff gets moved because Geekdrome is inactive.

Hell I was even on topic :)

I don't see a question needing an answer. I posted it for the Dromies that don't visit Geekscape.

I know it wasn't a question, but I could certainly think of a few similar types of graphic novels that might give you that same feeling if you ever need them.

If you were interested in that sort of thing...

I will tell you that I absolutely relate to that feeling of not being able to put Preacher down. I don't know if I've ever had a more perfect feeling than reading that comic. And then in 5-7, it gets BETTER. I do envy you that discovery.

Dude totally, suggestions are welcome.

My post was more of a dig at the authority for moving my post because clearly I'm a 4 year old who can't make his own decisions. I was afraid some of the ifanboys might take it as a dig at them and it wasn't.

One suggestion I got was Y: The Last Man. From the synopsis I read it looks interesting. I don't think I'm a super hero, tights kinda guy, but Punisher interests me, I think I was the only guy that liked the movie. And the Cival War might be something I grab.

garth ennis has written a lot of Punisher. You could check out his Punisher Max trades or Punisher Born which is an origin story set in Vietnam. all good

You should really pick up the Queen and Country trades. I started reading them last summer and I became so addicted to the story that I bought them all in like the span of a week.

I know you said you aren't interested in superheroes, but you should also give Bendis' Powers and Alias trades a try. Both read very well in trade format and look at superheroes from a different perspective.

Y: The Last Man was the one I was going to suggest. That and Walking Dead, which is about zombies, and is much much better than a zombie based book has any right to be.

Actually, I'm about 90 pgs into a stupidly titled book, World War Z, and I'm loving the hell out of it. sheah.

Ennis also does a lot of great WWII stuff.
