View Full Version : The problem with the show is that.....

They never finish a lot of the stories. They will read a story and maybe go through half of it, and then just move on to the next one. They are always rushing to get done with the stories. They spend more time talking about some of the sponsors than some of the actual stories.
I know some of you will say that you much rather see them get off topic, and talk about everything but the stories, but that's what the show is suppose to be about. I watch it because I enjoy listening to their thoughts and perspectives of the big stories of the week. This week I think they talked about nothing story related for almost the first 15 minuets of the show. That's a large chunk of time they could have been spending talking about the stories. Then Alex wouldn't had to worry about reading less than half of the Japanese story and then moving on. You want to talk about your life, do it in your blog, I want to watch the show to hear about the top news stories on Digg.
And does anyone else notice how the moment one of them talks about some restaurant, and mentions going to it after the show, they start speeding even faster though the stories to get the show done so they can go eat?
Hopefully when Kevin leaves the show will get better. I'd love to see JV, but since R3 dumped him (Sadly) I nominate Leo Laporte and Alex.

Diggnation is not a news show, plain and simple. The stories are not what the show is all about. The show is about their conversations and the funny stuff they go off on tangents with. The stories provide nothing more than a simple framework to give it at least some sort of format. But although the stories only provide the framework, I think having recent stories that people care about right now give it a much better starting point than one that are 2-3 weeks old and are already worn out by everyone on the internet.
If you want a tech news show, watch Tekzilla, TWiT, or any of the dozens of shows like them.
This weeks episode felt very scripted to me. It was almost like they planned everything they were going to talk about and were attempting to be fun by forcing it instead of actually having fun. It just didn't feel right to me.

Someone watches DN hoping for intelligent discourse and news commentary? When I want the latter, I watch the 11 o'clock news. When I want the former, well, I have my friends for that.
If you want to know what the top stories on Digg are, read Digg.

the problem can be fixed by alex and kevin either scipting each episode themselves and spacing them out further
or
they hire some writers - engineered solution to what is a social lul
gotta bring back the X factor
i think perhaps a mixture ? when alex and kevin are at it, its fucking great to watch, great shit - you don't want to try to script that, if you do it will depersonalize them too much (since what they are saying isn't something they have just thought of and hence added their personality to the joke)

What is with you guys saying that Diggnation is not about the Digg stories. Need I remind you that that is the whole point of the show, and without Digg the show would not exist. Can you honestly tell me that the show has nothing to do with and not revoke around Digg.com? If so, then you really have no idea what's going on.
Seems to me like you all just want is to watch two guys get drunk and talk about random crap. What fun is that without actual content? Or is this just a fanboy thing I'm not getting?

actually, I guess YOU have no idea what's going on.. As one of those that D/L'd the audio that they put up when they were hanging out and put out the idea that if people D/L'd that audio of them bullshitting.. that maybe they'd try to do it more often and add some of their insights into some of the news they'd heard about.. Afew weeks later Diggnation was born (unless that 1st audio upload was staged, which I doubt).
I'm sure in the time between the "hanging out" clip and DiggNation 001...it was the new "Corporate Kevin" that pushed for it to only be from Digg (since was new at the time) instead of stories from everywhere like Slashdot, techcrunch, etc..
The episode where Alex asks Kev when he sold out .. ep 55
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns_quJ6uK6c
(if a mod can embed it.. would be cool)
Alex actually says "What happened to you? You used to be the Dark Tipper and now you are in favor of DRM'd Apple-store shit." (paraphrased)
I'd also guess that many who like the show dont even go to Digg... Its not the Digg stories that bring us back.. its the fun and brotherhood of buddies hanging out.. letting it loose and speaking their mind. Many have posted about the lack of drinking.. I think that (especially Kevin) needs alittle lubrication to actually say what he's thinking instead of doing the corporate "risk/loss assessment" of perhaps a non-politically correct statement of what he thinks/feels.

Uh, yeah.
You can put two monkeys in front of a camera and make them read and talk about digg stories. kevin and alex have a unique chemistry and are similar and different in the right areas that just makes their conversation entertaining. The digg stories are an important part of the show, but like I said, they do nothing more than give it the slightest bit of formatting. If you want a news show, watch a news show. Diggnation is not and never was a news show.

Hahahaha... you don't seem to get it. YOU are the one who is not getting this. We understand it just fine, which is why u are on the outside looking in here.
