What programs do you all use?

I used to use ABC [ Yet another bit torrent ] (http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/)

But I found out about Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/) and have fallen in love w/ it

It seems to be the most used nowa days

uTorrent and Azureus support "Trackerless Torrents" as well - thats what DHT support is.

I use uTorrent no matter what OS im on - windows i'll use it natively, on OS X i'll use Crossover Mac to run it and on *nix, i'll use Wine to run it :P

I really dislike bitcomet for being a leeches client - it abuses the bittorrent protocol to get fast downloads and doesnt allow users to upload as it disconnects within seconds of getting the requested piece.

I could never get uTorrent to do the trackerless torrents I made with Bittorrent. I'll look into that.

as long as you have DHT enabled in the preferences, uTorrent supports DHT by default without you having to change any options around.

I was like nah man, I got a worm on my machine like 1 month ago and It totally crapped up my PC and I heard it messes up your internet uploading and downloading bunch of crap. I basically just made everything up.

Hes like O ok yea spyware and worms can do that. Did you get that stuff all fixed. I was like yea its all fixed and he uncapped me.

Are you violating the DMCA when you use QTFairUse to clean your paid music of its DRM? Depends if you live in the USA or not. If so then yes you have circumvented it's digital lock and committed a crime in doing so. if you are any were other than Spain or the USA, then I think you are all right fair use prevails.

Azureus and utorrent both allow for encrypted uploads and downloads via payload encryption and protocol obfuscation. I don't think packet shaping will be any big deal when it comes down to it. It just maybe the rule in the future rather than the exception.

Just a note.. Peerguardian's a waste of resources. It's not that hard to change your IP - and all peerguardian is, is an ip blocker. Provides nothing but the placebo effect.

Plus, the blocklists are run by a guy who adds IP's to the blocklist because of his own personal grudges. That's never a good thing.

And FIOS is faster then OOL - cheaper as well - i've got 20/5 for $45. Plus, verizon's a good ISP who doesnt cap anything.

I use Azureus mostly because it's what I've always used. I'm just accustomed to all the controls and I'm too lazy to give utorrent a try.
Azureus has always worked well for me. I use a handfull of torrent sites depending on what I'm searching for, some are public others private.

This is true, its not hard for them to change their IP address. Just remember if you have access to the lists then so do they.
With that being said, I still use peerguardian. It provides me with the false sense of security that I crave.

Also I wish FIOS was availible in my area, you lucky bastard! ;)

Mininova was originally a Suprnova mirror that managed to not die out after Suprnova closed - so for awhile you were still using Suprnova, even if it wasnt under the same name :P

As for sites i use, most of em are private in the sense that "mention it in public and you get banned" so i wont mention em - but public sites i like are Snarf-it.org and Isohunt.

On the side of what you use, I mainly us Torrent-damage and oink. Both are private trackers, (Please don't ask for an invite.) and honestly I've never had good speed with public trackers, but get my max bandwidth all the time on private ones.

Never had many problems with the public trackers, but just to stay on the safe side, I prefer demonoid. As for torrent clients, I used to use Azureus but it made my PC run REALLLY slowly so i now use uTorrent and I love every (kilo)bit of it :). I'll probably retry Azureus as I installed some more RAM the other day and see how that turns out.

I feel really bad though, my ADSL max upload speed is 15kb/s so I only seed when I'm asleep or not using the internet (which isn't that often), but I do try. I need to be a little more considerate... Anybody offering T1 for free? lol

Personally, I'd stay away from Azureus, unless it offers something that you really need and no other client offers. It's a decent client, I wish someone would take the time to at least port it off of Java (That's what's making it a hog) so maybe some OSs can run it better.

I mainly use uTorrent, I used to use Azureus, but like kshep92 at the time I had a slow machine that couldn't handle do much else than Azureus. I switched to uTorrent and haven't looked back since, and really have no reason. It's just awesome how small it is.

Azureus for me. Not a fan of their new version. Switching it to "Advanced" mode gets rid of the other stuff they are doing to try and legitimize themselves though.

If I am looking for something, I hit mininova first.

Google is a good resource too, but Vahnx's approach is limiting. A better search string is something like "keyword filetype:torrent" that way you don't need to be exact with the filename.

Actually, when it comes to looking for a torrent, I jut go to the torrents search engine (torrentz.com) and lookf or it there - pretty darn impressive. Though there are times when I can't find the torrent there so i just google it, just like vahnx.

(http://forum.mininova.org/lofiversion/index.php?t7467.html) at least according to that thread.Aside from not trusting a bunch of pirates in a 3 year old thread... it does help. It depends on what IP list you are using. I block over 70% of the internet with my list. Granted, they can get around it if they tried, but a mixture of blocking 70% of the internet and using private trackers both help a lot. Nothing is 100%. But if what I'm doing is 60%, and what you are doing (not using safepeer) is 0%, take a guess at which torrent client I'm going to use.

... How is what I'm doing 0%? I use private sites and have encryption turned on. Not to mention, if I do get in a law suit I have denability, as at my home we have an unencrypted open wireless network... Yes, you are blocking access from certain IPs to connect to YOU... Oh wait, guess what the RIAA and other people do to get a list of IP? They connect to public trackers... which your IP will be on that list. And it's very easy to spoof an IP address. If they really wanted to, safepeer is far from stopping them.

Look, I'm just saying don't fool yourself into thinking your safe, or really better off with it. Yea, you might be better off, but not 60%. Maybe 20-30% because they won't care enough to look into too much. But personally, I'd rather not run a bloated java program.

Look, I'm just saying don't fool yourself into thinking your safe, or really better off with it. Yea, you might be better off...Um... yea, great sentence!

Besides, as I already said in my previous post, I didn't say I was 100% safe, but a lot safer. I make custom lists that block 70% of the internet. Even if we went by your own "thoughts" on the matter, you are saying 20%-30%. So, back to my question, how's that uTorrent with no safepeer! Enjoy!

I torrent everyday when I have nothing better do, using both Emule (its not a torrent program I know but it does the job sometimes) and Azureus. So far Azureus is a pretty good Torrent program, I don't use UTorrent anymore because it nearly kills my connection, I can't port forward it very well to make it work better probably because I have a worthless Linksys router x.x.

I used to love azureus but, now it hogs to much memory, utorrent does the same thing - i just use peerguardian if i ever use public trackers, but that's a rare occasion

I think most people use bittorent. It wasn't designed to pirate stuff. Many companies (the most well known being Blizzard) use it to transfer files since it helps eliviate the stress on servers.

I torrent a lot.

with uTorrent. I've used Azeureus (sp?) before but it always would always get screwy on screen when ever I enabled AA/AF in my nvidia control panel.

Isn't it general ettiquette here for people to at least pretend they aren't getting their pirate on?

I have a bit in the past but I downloaded uTorrent again tonight so I could get Unreal Tournament 3. I didn't feel like signing up for fileplanet to get it. I wanna play!:D

ABC has always been fine for me for Windows use. Always seem to use Azureus when using Linux.
