Last week's The Office was the best episode yet. I've watched it three times, so far. There's nothing like Andy singing "zombie" over and over and then breaking down.

Dude, I have watched it multiple times as well. My favorite part:

"How would I describe myself? Three words - hardworking, alpha male, jackhammer. Merciless. Insatiable."

Upon "jackhammer", I about lost it.

I had a roommate who used to sing "Zombie" for half an hour at a time (and his voice was not suited to the task) so that made me laugh especially hard.

I loved it - I have often taken to singing Zombie to annoy people - its a fantastic tool and was awesome to see it used in this context...

I am so annoyed with The Office right now. I mean, I love it, but I am not happy.

I am very Pro-Karen. She was criminally underused after the merger.

One of my favorite exchanges:

Pam: If you wanna do something for the funeral...
Dwight Schrute: Yes, please.
Pam: Maybe you could play a song on your recorder.
Dwight Schrute: Excellent.
Pam: Do you have it with you?
Dwight Schrute: Always.

And if we're allowing Office Space mentions as tangentally related, through my bro-in-law, I have actually had dinner with the guy who played Drew aka the "I'm gonna give her my oh-face" guy. I'm assuming we can make TV threads b/c of 24. But if not, my bad.

Anyways, how did you all feel about Pam fessing up to Roy about Jim? I was actually more sympathetic to Roy this season b/c he seemed to have changed a lot. Guess not. And seemed somewhat odd (for the Office) where Roy says he's going to kill Jim at the end.

I think she might have been pretending about pretending.

Why?

Her dating everyone in the company would be totally out of character. Her ****ing with Jim about it is totally in character.

Also, she said something like "Did you see how his wife was shooting daggers at me?" And Jim said "No" which meant it wasn't happening, ergo Karen didn't date the guy.

*shrug* Just a vibe I got. I don't know Karen personally, so I don't really know what kind of dating history she has. Nothing that's happened in the show would indicate to me that dating a bunch of different guys would be incompatible with the character.

I loved the "Business School" episode directed by Whedon. It was a perfect combination of funny and poignant (Pam's art show and Michael's reaction to the painting of the office building). I think the humanization of Michael's character was really the tipping point that kept this American version from being redundant. I love David Brent and the British version, but this is something very different, special in its own way.

I like that they show he has his job for a reason. Yeah, he's a horrible boss and a real idiot sometimes, but when it all comes down to it, he's harmless and can make a good sale. He knows what he's doing. Put him as a manager in any other business and he'd be totally lost. He knows paper.

Tricky. I really liked Karen in the context of the other branch. And for a while I was firmly in the Karen camp. But when she's in Scranton I think she only really gets to shine when she's teamed up with Pam. Especially this season's Christmas special.

The TV honeymoon really ends when the characters stop flirting or fighting the relationship and actually take that plunge into coupledom. They get domestic.

I'm all about the Pam at this point. She's made that character so interesting, and, in my opinion, really left Dawn from the original series in her wake.

Let's talk favorite episodes.

The standouts for me include:

Business School (season 3) directed by Joss Whedon. Michael visits Ryan's business school as a guest lecturer. Pam has an art show. Dwight discovers a bat in the ceiling of the office.

The Coup (season 3) Dwight tries to usurp Michael as regional manager. Michael plays along with the gag for a while. Dwight's dentist's name is....Crentist?

The Injury (season 2) One of the funniest cold opens in Office history (the other is "faxes from future Dwight.") Michael burns his foot on a George Foreman grill. Dwight gets brain damage.

How about you guys?

I'm not good at recalling specific episodes, but just some certain scenes stick out (not in any order):

British version
-Gareth illustrating getting shot in the head by a sniper
-The end of the regular series with David begging for his job
-Dawn opening up her present of coloring pencils

US version
-Pam drunk and flaunting her Dundee trophy
-Karen throwing up metal signs in response to Call of Duty
-Pam hugging Michael at the art show
-Roy's rage at finding out Jim kissed Pam
-Dwight crashing his car into the pole and subsequently puking

-Pam hugging Michael at the art show

I got all misty-eyed. But the cue for it was when Michael reacted to the picture of the office building.

That's so true. that was one big hole i found in the UK office. David Brent is so incompetent that your constantly wondering how he got to the position he was in.
i have yet to see this third season, im waiting for the DVD but from the conversation here, it seems that this is the best season yet. That would certainly fall in line with how this show evolved (the 1st was basically a copy of the UK office, the 2nd it developed a voice of its own).
I really enjoyed extras though and i wouldn't discount the 1st season as an average show. There were a few bumpy episodes but the episodes featuring Patrick Stewart and kate winslet were classic. but i will admit that the second season was better, every episode was consistenly hilarious. but damn, does ricky gervais ever like to beat down his main characters. in extras he just spirals lower and lower.
fans of the office (uk or american) should definitely check it out

To me, the first series of Extras was very dependent on its guest stars. When they were funny and interesting, the show was. When they weren't, the show wasn't. In the second series, the guest stars were a nice addition, but the main characters really carried the action.

Thats a great point, when i watched the first series i thought that the point of the program was to see Gervais interact with the guest stars, but your right, the second series really was based more around the main characters and Andy coping with fame, the stars were superfluous, even though they seemed to play a bigger role as well (apart from the David bowie episode, the guest stars where more than the cameos we saw in the first series). NBC’s THE OFFICE To Face Off Against CSI & GREY’S Next Season??

When NBC announces its autumn schedule in 12 days, it may show “The Office” – the network’s top-rated sitcom and the number-two sitcom on network television - has moved to 9 p.m. Thursdays, where it will likely face off against twin colossi “Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI.”

According to a story in this morning’s Variety, NBC execs will pay close attention to how “The Office” performs this week and next, when supersized episodes of the sitcom slop over into the 9 p.m. hour.

We've also heard that “Scrubs,” which has been occupying half of the 9 p.m. hour most of this season, is on NBC’s chopping block. (Fans should not despair, however, as Disney – which produces “Scrubs” – is said to have long indicated that it would begin airing the show on its ABC network should NBC elect not to renew it.)

"30 Rock," already renewed for next season, seems the most likely show to follow "The Office" at 9 :30 p.m.

Read all of Variety’s story on the matter here (http://www2.variety.com/ref.asp?u=AICN&p=1MQT&sid=VR1117964159).

It kills me that they wasted a really important moment like Pam's confession on an episode as poorly written as this one. This episode felt like....like those really cheap knock-off action figures you get at a dollar store, where it's clearly trying to be a name brand like Captain America, but you really just end up with Patriotic Phillip.

My absolute favorite part of the episode. I cracked up at that. And Creed! Oh man. He's quickly becoming my favorite side character on The Office.

I'm kinda torn on the episode; it was terribly funny but that last bit with Pam felt a bit awkward and out of character. Doing it in front of everyone? Yeah, that wouldn't happen. It seems like they did it that way so that Karen would see it, and the rest of the season will roll out as people have predicted already.

There were some good jokes, but more misses than hits. The actors did a good job trying to make up for the bad pages. I think I was mostly disappointed with the talking head scenes. This one had great little character moments (Creed, Andy, Meredith) but the talking heads were weak compared to most episodes.

I think Karen get the job at corporate and will leave Jim because she realizes that Jim and Pam are in love.

About the theory. The story is that the actress playing Karen has a pilot in development. They shot two versions of the Office finale. If her new show gets picked up, one thing happens, if not...another thing happens.

This episode didn't work for me. Don't know why. I just didn't buy the setup. I just wish they'd make Michael a little more than a complete and utter moron. The last couple of epidsodes, though, were fantastic! I'm betting Karen gets the corporate job.

The Office Tidbits:

- The Office star Jenna Fischer fell down the steps at Buddakan during an upfront party Tuesday and suffered four fractures in her back. "She avoided anything scary near the spine," her rep tells us, "and she'll make a full recovery in time to shoot season four of The Office this summer." Office mate Angela Kinsey and hubby James Gunn stayed overnight with Fischer at St. Vincent's Hospital.

- Rashida Jones and John Krasinski, who dated in real life in 2005, play a popular couple on The Office.

But the two weren't looking likes exes Monday night at the Shrek the Third premiere, in which Krasinski voices Lancelot.

Jones snuck in separately to take her place next to Krasinski in the Chelsea Clearview Cinema. We saw them sitting low in their seats and leaning against each other during the screening. And they left together before the film ended.

What could be more romantic than watching Shrek and his bride popping out three ogre babies?

I totally agree! It stretches the show beyond the suspension-of-disbelief point. Last year and earlier this season they did a better job showing how he could hold down this job while at the same time act like an idiot. Remember the convention where he sold all that paper?

Wasn't perfect, but it was better than the beach episode in my opinion.

I loved, loved the "paper lecture" scene where Dwight is quizing them about soil. "Phospherous?" Angela shakes her head, smiling. "WRONG! Nitrogen!"

The ending happens a bit fast, so that could have been tweaked just a little. But Ryan's ending? Gold.

'The Office' Star Fischer Breaks Back

"The Office star Jenna Fischer has fractured her back in four places after falling down a set of stairs in a New York bar on Tuesday. The actress, who plays Pam Beesly in the Emmy Award-winning U.S. comedy, was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan after the fall at Buddakan. Her representative tells the New York Daily News, "She avoided anything scary near the spine and she'll make a full recovery in time to shoot season four of The Office this summer." This art really bugs me because it goes under the assumption that "The Convict" and Prison Mike were the highlight of this awesome season. Even though it was written by Gervais and Merchant, it's an embarrassingly bad episode for the most part.

Great looking stuff on there. Glad there's a lot of commentaries, but I wish Jenna Fischer was on more of them. She's one of those people who really knows what the fans want to hear, and always has the most interesting information. Really glad they got Ramis and Whedon to come on board for the extra features.

I'm not gonna back down on this one. Prison Mike isn't funny at all. The concept of the episode is really good (prison > working at Dunder Mifflin) but that scene really didn't do it for me. I'm glad you enjoyed it though. That means all the episodes are loved by at least somebody.

The best episodes this season were "Business School" (The Bat episode directed by Whedon); "Benihanna Christmas" (directed by Ramis); and "The Coup." There were some really great ones in addition to this, but those are the ones that really stand out to me.

His Christmas special episode this year was fantastic. It's cool to see these guys working together.

Paul Feig the creator of Freaks and Geeks wrote and directed for the Office, and also appeared as the head of the fantasy baseball club in Knocked Up. Knocked Up also had cameos by Ryan (one of the potential doctors), Daryl (the doorman), and a guy from Michael's improv team (the mean doctor).
