SoCal weekend getaway! Ideas?

Ive decided to spend the weekend in SoCal. I live in Maryland and havent been to that area since I was in elementary/middle school.

Im 23, so pretty much up for anything.

The person I am going with has never been over there (west coast) and really hasnt traveled far at all.

So we fly in friday night,Drive to and spend the day in San Diego Saturday, then Saturday night and Sunday in LA.

Any must see places or must eats?

We are going to Sea World....I havent been in so long and it was a big part of my childhood when I lived there.

We leave late Sunday night to come back to 35 degree weather.

Should be a fun weekend.

You should hit up some of the bars and clubs around San Diego's "Gas Lamp Quarter", Pacific Beach and Carlsbad. San Diego is overall better than Los Angeles plus is more "people friendly".

I agree. LA? Meh ... whatever. As a self contained tourist destination, San Diego is much better.

Gaslamp District is great, so is Old Towne (recommend Cafe Coyote (http://www.cafecoyoteoldtown.com/) for lunch/dinner ... and especially brunch on Sunday - parking is available underneath the restaurant).

If you head up the coast, take the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway ... Hwy 1) up to LA. Stop at Laguna Beach, keep driving, stop at Newport Beach - recommend Taco Mesa (http://www.tacomesa.net/), then keep on heading up the coast, and hit Santa Monica, the pier, and the Third Street Promenade (http://www.downtownsm.com/).

The deal we got was for flying into LA.

The drive to SD will be nice. Is laguna beach out of the way?

What is the gas lamp district?Laguna Beach is on the PCH ... and it is a much nicer drive than taking the 5 (main freeway) up the coast. You don't see much except concrete barricades if you take the freeway all the way.

The Gas Lamp District is the main "adult entertainment" area in San Diego ... bars, nightclubs, etc.

I definately recommend staying in SD overnight Saturday, doing brunch at Coyote Cafe, then heading up to Santa Monica - Santa Monica is close enough to LAX that you can make a flight easy enough, and its a fun place to check out.
