DC COMICS TEASER

DC Comics on Thursday set out the teaser image to the right.

The teaser was accompanied by these words:

"Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction."

Asked for further comment, DC declined.

That's a hell of an image...but what is it for?

Superman is crying because he heard a rumor that Daniel Way has been offered a DC exclusive
It's for this very same reason that Batman has a sword - he knows what is coming and he's practicing

Well, let's see - we've got:

Dead Blue Beetle and Maxwell Lord from Infinite Crisis.

Dead The Question from 52.

Dead Jade from the Rann/Thanagar War.

Red Robin from Kingdom Come.

This might be from WWIII, maybe?

I think Superman is sad because WW just told him that she's into 'hot girl on girl action'

WWIII takes place before Superman got his powers back.

Just read on Newsarama that the text is from the bible.

Hmm... good point.

That's Batman from Detective Comics Annual #7, I believe. The Pirate Batman Elseworlds story.

This is all Superboy Prime's fault.

What's the thing between Max and Jade? How about the gold thing near Beetle's hand?

Is it me or does DC just do this stuff WAY better then Marvel?

My guess:

DC pulled a Marvel and mad ea really sweet pic to get people fired up that will never appear in, or has anything to do with a future issue of any comic.

Or maybe photochop.

Dan Didio answers 20 questions about the picture:

1) First off – and asked multiple times – this image was clearly based on the promotional image generated for The Sopranos. Why? What was it about those characters, or the coming drama that mapped out to the DCU?

Dan Didio: Actually there were several inspirations for the piece and each character was chosen because of their importance to upcoming storylines in the DC Universe. This is not about one book or one story but about the major events that will unfold throughout the year.

6) Does the positioning of the characters have meaning? Can you give an example?

DD: Physical separation can also represent emotional separation or distance. It also can represent separate storylines. Where you stand and how you stand can determine your ultimate future. There are no accidents in positioning, body or gaze. Light and shadow also play a role.

8) Are all the assembled characters from the same Earth?

DD: Yes, they are all from the same Earth. But let me say, as the sighs of relief and the gasps of disapproval die down, some of these images are literal and some are symbolic, I leave it to you to figure out which is which.

Dan Didio inadvertently answered that the Flash in the teaser image released several weeks ago is Barry Allen and Red Robin is Jason Todd..

He was then needled by Bob Wayne for it.

Dan Didio posed a question to the panel: Who would you like to kill?

Rucka (staring at Didio): I’m looking at him right now (regarding the Flash and Red Robin revelation)

The rest of the panel agreed with Rucka immediately.

what ever happened, max lord got screwed up. not only is his head turned around like the exorcist (again), it looks like his body was twisted again too.

so with the red robin thing, red arrow/arsenal and all the flashes we are seeing in JSA, is the DCU gonna pull a days of future past and become Kingdom come? are their any other references that i've missed?

Anyone else think Batman looks like he's dressed up in Ra's al Ghul attire? Does it have something to do with his son, Damian?

And didn't Mister Miracle get shot in the head and die in the last issue of Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers, or did he somehow survive that? I saw him running around in crowds during Infinite Crisis. He was my least favorite character in that series and I was hoping he would stay dead because all he did was whine and get beat up.

And lastly, is Mary Marvel really so important that she had to be one of the characters featured on this spread?

I think that is Damian from Batman #666, the future story.

Shilo Norman was shot and killed, that there is the original Mister MIracle, Scott Free.

I guess I should have figured it was Scott because he's standing next to his wife.

As for Shilo being dead, check out this sneak peek to Firestorm: The Nuclear Man #33 that I just read. Is Shilo such a good escape artist that he escaped the Grim Reaper himself, or is his being alive due to Infinite Crisis fallout? Like they say, no one in comics stays dead except for Uncle Ben, so I'm guessing the latter.
