I recently purchased a 4Gb PNY flash drive that I tried to install windows xp home on and ended up changing the file system to RAW. Does anyone know how to fix this besides buying a new flash drive?

Plug the drive in.
Go to the Disc Manager.
Repartition the USB drive.
Format.

Try using gparted (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php), if the Windows partitioning tool fails to work, gparted might work.

I managed to install this on another flash drive and boot but that too did not work. Thanks though.

You could try using fdisk and mkfs on Linux, which is the final thing to try which will report all errors and warnings and such. However, you'll have to figur out how to use them, it's mostly easy.

Using fdisk and mkfs: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=282018

I'm tempted to say that it's just broken. If both the windows partitoning tool and gparted fail, well, it's probably broken. You could try things like making the parttion start in a diffrent location or making it smaller and such.

I think the flash drive is just dead. Sorry for wasting your time.
