Why doesn't Revision 3 have a politics podcast. The Digg Reel, Totally Rad Show, or even seem like perfectly good formats to cover politics? I'm going to guess that this has something to do with sponsorship concerns, but I'm guessing there would still be sponsors like audible who would come in, since they sponsor podcasts like Slate Political Gabfest.

A politics show that actually has some smart, logical hosts and guests discussing and going in-depth with substantive issues and laws would be a nice change of pace compared to the regular political crap on AM radio. Limbaugh plays a few audio clips and then comes to mostly false conclusions about what was said and what the sound bite means. Spinning and more spinning.

Probably not, that's just one man's opinion - a show like that would need people from all over the spectrum.

Also, having global reach, where do you stop??
For example, I joke that the US government is based on a two party system with a conservative party, and an even more conservative party.
In Australia, my political views were fairly conservative, but in the Us they are considered full on socialist (or fascist - depending if the person I'm speaking with has a clue about political dogma).
Mapping the UK political system onto a US based podcast would be challenging as well.
Nope. Can't see it happening. Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, Sky, BBC, ABC (Australia, not US), Al Jazera <sp>, local AM radio stations, etc. Plenty of other venues for this type of show.

Lest it be a live show, wouldn't make much sense to do it anyway, I'd say. Fast turnaround would be needed.

that's funny because I would have said the liberal party and the more liberal party.. its all a matter of your frame of reference i suppose

That just goes to show you how far right you are. :)
* I disagree with both you and Token in saying we have a conservative and more conservative party and saying we have a liberal and more liberal party. *

Take a look at the politics and governments of western allies of the US. The policies of both the Dems and GOP are both pretty conservative by comparison.

As far as the traditional political spectrum, you're right, the US Dems and Repubs are closer to each other than in other countries. I know a lot of people who call themselves Republicans and vote that way just due to ONE issue -- abortion rights. If most of the Dems came out against abortion rights, they'd probably dominate every political race from here on out. I personally don't think people should be having to use abortions as their irresponsible form of birth control anyway (I am on the fence on abortion -- could go either way with this issue), so if the Dems were against it, then a lot of right wing nutcases would not have been voted in over the years. Not that being against it would immediately overturn Roe V. Wade.

...yeah but who would host the show. They'd run the risk of being vilified on either end of the spectrum. It would have to have a comic angle like the Colbert Report, but with a more geeky twist.

I have two scenarios in mind.
1) Digg Reel style, find the best comments on the most popular stories. Read them. A little commentary. The style of the host should be someone who is great at calling BS. The host shouldn't be left or right wing. He should look threw the threads and find when someone raises a good points that help to clarify issues. To fix the cable problem we have to stop getting two people who talk past each other and give each of them half of a screen. A Revision 3 podcast should make use of the commenters and sort through the BS everyday.
Scenario 2) Digg Nation style, 2 guys or a panel that basically do the same thing as scenario one except one guy is a little to the left, the other a little to the right, and they try to find points where we can agree on what is clearly good and bad. The problem with this is, Kevin and Alex get sidetracked a lot and it would be hard to take a Digg Nation clone seriously, even if it was political.

We would have to get...
Martin Sargent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Sargent)
...oh yeah, he'd come back for that.
