If a story has "been made popular" shouldn't it therefore have made it to the frontpage?

Really, I'm no techie here but to my understanding it works on an algorithm designed so that if a story gets "x" amount of votes with in "y" amount of time it hits the front page. But that's just the simplistics of it. They've been doing a lot of work recently and I think some of it depends on what Kevin Rose has called a "Karma System" where good users votes mean more and spammers votes mean less.

Again... that's really the basics... if you can find a digg programmer ask him to explain... but he may have to kill you afterwards.

Cheer,
Eric

What he just explained is basically it, but sometimes the ones that are popular but have not made it too the front page, well after awhile it will too.

The one story I have that's been promoted took about 24 hours to get to it. It just depends on if you get a lot of diggs in a short amount of time.

Best simple way to describe it...

1. Submit Story
2. People digg
3. people/story life time = promotion?
4. ???
5. Profit

in all seriousness though, there is a complex algorithm in place that takes account of who's friends with who, how many stories the submitter and digger have submitted or dugg, etc, etc.
