View Full Version : Game Problems
Certain Game minimize to taskbar, without reason.
Guild Wars - works
Steam - works
NFS Most Wanted - minimizes to taskbar
POP Warrier Within - minimizes to taskbar
there is no reason for this...I was doing overclocking, but not back to normal speeds..

Steam?!! Umm, you do know that Steam isn't a game right?
What are your system specs? It could be the vid card, make sure you have up to date drivers.
of course, i dont know why (this site for sure) people ask, sure you got updated drivers lol, yes i do..
and dont be smart, you know when i say steam, im talking about HL2, CS, and any others that work with steam.
I disabled some services, and it works, but it seems to only work right after the computer is started up....which dosen't make sense at all.

Steam has games include all Source engine based ones, the old HL games, a ton **** of little games, and more...
i.e. If you are having a problem with HL2 (i.e. source engine) you may not have a problem with TFC since it runs a different engine. So, yes it makes a difference.
About the drivers though, some people will totally forget to update or they won't know there is an update.

What other programs are running in the background? I know i never lose focus in steam even if a IM pops up it just hovers over the window. Do u have an antivirus or firewall updating automatically? What do you have running at startup? The game isnt crashing anymore so i assume its just a focus issue.
I had this problem with 2 games, i stoped some services, and am watching to others to see if there are problems. The one game seems to be working fine now, need for speed is the bigest problem, which it seems to go into the game now. It just runs really crappy, not in quality, but it chops, and things speed up and weird crap, it was working great before. I think i have one hell of a weird computer.

[msmsg] C:\WINDOWS\system32\msmsg.exe
That is a trojan, and probably why u are losing focus, nuke it. It probably uses firefox to call home without setting your firewall off, and to make sure u dont see the window it hides it. Also, a google of the filename might say its msn messenger or something, its not. MSN is in program files, not system32.
These are unneeded:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NVRaidService] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvraidservice.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RemoteControl] "C:\Program Files\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe"
(unless u use a remote control to control powerdvd)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LanguageShortcut] "C:\Program Files\PowerDVD\Language\Language.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IntelliType] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Hardware\Keyboard\type32.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
O4 - Startup: Adobe Gamma.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
So how do I get rid of them, and make sure they don't come back?

Start in safe mode, check them in hijackthis. Restart. Scan with an NEWLY INSTALLED and updated avg or equivalent, and you should be good.
[edit]
And i dont know how you got infected so shortly afte installing xp....
I'm not sure if it was before or after you said that, but I just reinstalled AVG, cause for some reason it sayed I can't get updates. Now its new, and not sure if everything is working, i think so, but that weird firefox is still there.......
did a scan, found nothing.

Did you do the stuff in safe mode i said? The trojan could be blocking AVG.
I did not, for what ever reason, things seem fine at the moment. The first sign of any more troubles I will try that and get back to you.

Its too time consuming to restart in safe mode to remove a trojan that is possibly logging everything you type?
So your saying simple run HijackThis in safe mode?
and this is what is running when i first start the computer, there is alot...

You have to restart in safe mode, run hijackthis. Hit scan. Then check the following:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NVRaidService] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvraidservice.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Jet Detection] "C:\Program Files\Creative\SBLive\PROGRAM\ADGJDet.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RemoteControl] "C:\Program Files\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe"
(unless u use a remote control to control powerdvd)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LanguageShortcut] "C:\Program Files\PowerDVD\Language\Language.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dlcgmon.exe] "C:\Program Files\Dell AIO 810\dlcgmon.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RunDLL32.exe NvMCTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IntelliType] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Hardware\Keyboard\type32.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
O4 - Startup: Adobe Gamma.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
Then hit Fix. Now restart into normal windows. Good as new.
I booted into Safe Mode, ran Hijackthis
got rid of everything except for
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
O4 - Startup: Adobe Gamma.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
I could not find these this time around.
did another scan, got rid of ctfmon...
is there a difference, don't know, the second firefox still runs at startup and yea.
Don't know if this is related but thought i might as well keep the same thread going. Is there any way my videocards or something could be making my games run at double speed?
Is there something wrong with my cards, or something else? or the game itself?

What are your system specs? What games are running at double speed (or are they all)? Are you playing these games regularly via the CD?

Well, im mexican, and maybe you cant understand this, lol.
First, when i try to run Halo it minimize, i clic on it in the task bar and it run well, except when i press ALT+TAB, the cursor dissapear.
The game Prey runs well, dont Minimize.
I supouse is the resolution, i have 1024X768 in the system, halo in the first run puts 800x600, that causes to minimize, but in the game i have 1024x768 and i can maximize it again.
the game Hoyle Boards Games 2007 only runs in 800x600, when i try to play it, it minimize and can't maximize it.
i have a Nividia 66000 128MB, i don't have that problem before, i actualize all my drivers, and DirectX too, and DirectX is the problem.
I unistall DirectX using this utility http://www.superfoxs.com/ the program name is DirectX Happy Unistall. use this name and code
Name: ru-board
Code: 91010929
and unistall it, note that u need the winxp cd
and for install the 9.0c just search in your games that have the option to install diretcx and search for the folder Directx9 in the game cd and copy it on your hard disk and select install Directx 9.0c from the Directx Happy Unisntall and thats it, it resolve my problem.
Other thing is, put Start>Run>dxdiag
and run the directx test, it maybe says that u stop the test pressing a key,
then directx is the problem.
I actualize the directx from internet, the last is Frebruary 2007, but it makes problems in my computer, i back to another directx the one that are in the hoyle boards games 2007 cd.
good luck.
