OK. I've had the chance to read the Ms. Marvel Special that's coming out this week for my site. Its a good book. Brian Reed's a good writer, and can put together an entertaining story, so here's my question - Should I pick up the monthly series?

I like the character, but she's not one of those characters I keep up with other than on a generic level and have read her appearances when she's in books I read (Uncanny X-Men, Avengers, etc).

Help me iFanboy... you're my only hope!

I read Ms. Marvel and I like it. It's pretty cool and I've heard that they have big plans for her.

It's probably better to have read up from #1 but I don't think that it would be horrible to not have. It got a little difficult during her CW issues. They weren't really that good. I think that they only account for 2 or 3 of the dozen or so that have come out so far. The rest is good

I've heard that before. I'm giving a lot of titles a second chance after CW ends just because I want to see if they can survive the aftermath. I really liked Ms. Marvel in House of M and it sounds like that's what they're trying to do in her monthly series. If that's the case I may try it out.

Thanks!

In the beginning:
After House of M she decided that she wasn't living up to her potential. So now she's trying to.

The CW issues:
way too much Arana and Wonder Man. I constantly wondered why I should care. Or was it Arachne? Exactly. Also, being fervently anti-reg(and not a total asshole) it was hard to root for her.

Now:
it's coming back

I preferred the first few arcs, "It's Fun to be Super," to the Civil War arc, "Jackbooted Fascist Supermen Are Our Masters." The current arc, "I'll Pretend the Fascist Thing Never Happened If You Will," is winning me back at only the most glacial of paces.

If you've ever wanted to read a book where the main character heroically tears her friend (a single mother) away from her weeping daughter, handcuffing her and leading her away to the gulag forever as the child watches, this is the romp for you.

I'm mainly hanging in there for an arc where all the people she screwed over with an "oops! sorry!" come back and mop the floor with her.

I dropped this book a couple issues ago. I like the character and the first few issues showed promise - I iiked the idea of her having a publicist and dealing with her public image and insecurities. But even accepting the CW sidetrack, they just never got back to that character stuff enough in the subsequent issues. Seemed less than the sum of its parts, as Reed and artists were good, but it never came together for me.
