Hey

Does anyone know if there is some app (windows or linux) that can control the fans on a Toshiba notebook (specifically a p30)? If this exists you are my official god an savior for finding it for me.

Cheers
Eric

Ericthe fans go on/off as required for those machines. Turning their speed down really could harm your machine. Check out MBM (Motherboard Monitor) ... depending on the sensor chips used in the Toshiba laptops, it should give you the information you need. If the fan speed IS detected, then there are apps out there that can generally control them.

sup,

AFAIK the fan-speed may be controlled through the bios,

I suppose if you use assembly and either APM or ACPI and power

management you could address the issue, of course, this is from a FreeBSD

point of view.

much love and respect.

See... i'm not talking about turning down the RPMS i'm talking about turning them up! I know that they get loud then but it's the only way to keep it cool enough that the computer stays stable (and powered on for that matter). The p30 as far as I know is notorious for it's shitty cooling and heat issues (not to mention the shit ass fans).

Cheers,
Eric

I'm with TokenUser on this one; Motherboard Monitor (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/) is supposed to do a pretty good job of this.

Regretfully, i can't use this (or any other one as far as i know) because i have a Dell Inspiron :(

Edit: i'm not sure that this lets you turn it down.. you could also check out notebook fans (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?DEPA=0&type=&Description=notebook+cooler&Submit=ENE&N=0&Ntk=all&Go.x=0&Go.y=0), which could solve the problem too..
