Ok I've been wondering and tried a few times with no success, is there any way I can watch Diggnation and/or any other podcasts on my TV by using my PS3? I also have a Wii but I'm pretty sure I can't play it on that. I'd like to watch it on my TV but I'm not going to spend money to do it, I just would have thought that "mighty" PS3 could have done the job.

If you have a DVD burner in your computer, then you can burn the shows to DVD and play it as a normal DVD in your PS3.

Not knowing how the PS3 manages the network and files and such, you might be able to create a folder on the PS3 and share it (with write permission) on your internal network, then transfer the files from your computer. This is assuming you can gain access of the PS3 hard drive like that, and networking works something like it does in Windows, also assuming it's on the network. I don't have a PS3 or have ever used one, so this is purely speculative.

I hate sitting at my computer watching diggnation, DVDs and more, so since 2003 I have been using a small box called PalmButler (now available from PCZapper.tv (http://www.pczapper.tv/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=28&Itemid=36) - and thus now called PCZapper Multi (http://www.pczapper.tv/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4&Itemid=5)) which basically can take any TV-out-signal from a PC, and convert it into a UHF TV and/or FM stereo radio signal.

This means, that next to my computer I hook up this extra box, and out comes a standard TV antenna signal that I can distribute to all and any of the TV's and/or Stereo Radios in the house. Set the TV to ie. channel 38, and the TV shows whatever is on my computer screen.

The PalmButler (PCZapper Multi) box, converts 800x600, 1024x768 (and higher) to standard TV signals (PAL, NTSC and more).
The PalmButler comes with a coax injector box, so I still get all my cable TV signal to all my TV's as well. It all travels on ONE coax cable.

Futher more; any media that plays using one of the main Media players, like MS Media player, iTunes player and Real Player - my nVidea graphics card can be set to automatically show full screen on the TV signal of any DVD, PODcast, video etc. that is played.

I am now planning to also hook up my wifes computer in the same way, and just let her box use ie. channel 69 on the TV, so it will be easier for her to share all of her pictures etc. with her girlfriends when they are over for a "girl giggle meet"

thanks for the suggestions, I did however figure it out after seeing a couple of forum posts at IGN.

there suggestions were not totally correct but it got me going down the right path.

they claimed that H.264 would display on the PS3 but it doesn't, the .MOV format does however. So before I left work, I downloaded the .MOV version of the latest episode to a USB drive and plugged that into the front of my PS3 and it played it right off of there. Quality wasn't too bad at all. So from now on that's how I'll be watching diggnation, indigital, and hopefully some ctrl+alt+chicken if Alex and Heather decide to make more episodes.

thanks again for the suggestions though guys.

Watching the WMV version on the XBOX 360 is pretty seamless. You do have to set the software up properly. That wasn't trivial.

I own both systems, and its frustrating for both.... The 360 can stream stuff, but only WMV...which means if i want any of my 70 gigs of videos to watch id have to downgrade the quality to it...whereas the PS3 requires a special type of MP4. Now if you connect to google video or another site you can download videos that are already in that format, then your good to go...however, when using a converter to mp4 it seems to be different (ipod video mp4 and PS3 mp4)....wish it was easier to view .avi files on either systm.....

Orb is simple and fast to use. The Orb application is free to download and install, and there are no fees for MyCasting. You only need a home computer to get setup, and can use any web-enabled media player with streaming capabilities, portable or otherwise, to remotely play the media you desire.

My 360 plays the large wmv version off a usb drive perfectly. Not sure what format the PS3 would play.

Dude, you have a PS3... so to me, that means that you have money to burn... (i know you that you probaly don't though, i mean, you bought the damned ps3) why not just pick up an (apple logo)TV? That way, even if you don't download via iTunes, you can import the h.264 into iTunes as movies or tv shows and playback that way.

Actually i found a way to use it on my ps3..."Quicktime small" works perfectly!

its in the form of mp4v....360 is too much of a hassle. Reason for this is simple:

With the PS3, i can simply use the web browser to go to revision3, find the show i want an download it straight to the hard drive...watch it then delete it right there on the spot....its almost like my own IPTV; whereas with the 360 you have to have it on a storage device to play it...

So far i can watch:
DLTV, all revision3 shows (even the early diggnations, since its in quicktime small...), download from google video, and as well as watching all streaming videos from any site (youtube, etc...).

So far im trying to get as much use out of this darn PS3 as i can...since i cant play any good games on it yet

Holy crap, awesome thread because I am now watching Diggnation on my PS3 in HD!

Awesome. Incase you're wondering...

Just go to Rev3's site, go to the show then ep you want, on the right, click download, I chose the 30fps HD MP4 version. If you've got a beefy enough network and net connection, you can stream simply by clicking that, if not and you don't to risk buffering issues, hit triangle, save target, set it to background. A few minutes later you're watching it in HD.

Considering I usually watch this on my iPhone or in my truck, watching it in HD on my Bravia is a WELCOME change.

HD Nation is on its way down now and bout to pull down the Clinton and the Grant Digg Dialogs.

To the Rev3 folks, the plugin you're using for video does NOT work on PS3. You guys need a PS3 page or something.

yuck! iTunes?!

If he has money, he should buy a Acer Aspire Revo, load XBMC Live on it, and then install the Rev3 plugin... for ~ $200, he'll get a good media center and be able to stream Rev3 shows straight to his TV. oh and he won't be tied down to iTunes or their specific formats.

As for his current setup, sounds like downloading straight to the PS3 would be the easiest.

He might have had money 3 years ago when the post was originally made ... but after the Great Recession, who knows.

The ways of watching on TVs have expanded over the past 3 years.

I like Vuze ... and stream it to either my PS3, or my DNLA equipt Samsung TV.
Works for me. YMMV.

You beat me to it. That is how I have watched podcasts and uh other things for a while. Even better after finally getting an 42" HD LCD.

The H.264 doesn't work. The QT's are good, especially the 30fps ones.

Another opportunity is to stream it. For me it is hit and miss. Having my PC on first helps, but sometimes the 360 nor the PS3 links to it. Usually works more easily when I have used ANY kind of video player on my PC previously. Even iTunes or the VLC player. That whole Media Center thing I think. (something left behind that just syncs.)

I have noticed video quality can actually suffer a bit. Bad hard line router I think. But, I don't like taxing my PC either, when I have the USB Drive option.
