View Full Version : New Digg.com up?

I got the new digg.com on my last log on.
Looks neat and clean. I will have to get used to it as anything else. That will be a fast transition as this layout is not too much different to the older one. The look is like Facebook really. Which is ok. I am getting sick of facebooks' layout though.
It is not bad. Makes me excited for the features that came along with the new Digg.com look.

R.I.P. digg.labs
R.I.P. submission category sub-classes
R.I.P. "bury" button
R.I.P. 'recommendation' engine
R.I.P. "favorites" section
R.I.P. "shout" function
WTF are you doing Kevin?
Trying to design a page layout that is an exact COPY of "Google: news"...
gimme a break, you're not fooling anyone... hate it. Loathe it.
Ruined my day, having waited this long for an ad-scroller for "sponsored" links.
If I wanted to JUST look at pop-ups, I'd turn pop-ups "on" with my browser.
If you really wanted to impress me, you could have made the
New Digg customizable with font type, and font colour... but you off this turd instead:

...and THAT abortion called the redesign, version four, is the final nail in the coffin.

as someone who did try & use the beta too, i still don't like the new version. i usually welcome change, but i definitely don't in this instance. it's error after fucking error on the new site. i won't visit digg for a couple weeks until they decide to fix all that annoying bs.

... at least it will let you log on. As someone who was on digg before digg went beta, and the person who pushed for and named the "bury" option (and wish I could find my email exchanges on that), digg has been a problem for me for sometime, starting with the whole digg gaming thing and algorithm corrections to try and fight it. It slow slipped from being interesting to being a place to repost from reddit and 4chan.

in fact, the more I use it the more it irritates me
don't worry they'll "fix" the bugs
should have left the redesign
up to the people who use it
instead of only those elite
who saw the alpha and
who never warned us....
...we get less & less
http://images.memegenerator.net/File/137537.jpg?imageSize=Large
....and less isn't exactly always better either.
Oh, I'm sure she thought she looked...
"neat and clean"
maybe even "sexy"
...truth hurts though Kevin.
The new skin for Digg is a #FAIL
Does anyone outside of Digg HQ acutally use Digg as a Social network? I regarded Digg as a news source. Just let me set Top News as the default page when I come to Digg, I could care less about what my "Followers" or "Followees" or whatever are digging, I want the big picture.

Love how fast the site loads now, but I sure do miss the thumbs.

Sure it loads fast. They've successfully integrated advertising at all levels too.

...problem is the whole site is in decline. Perhaps this will
inject a whole new breed of users who don't care about
what Digg could have been.
Oh I'm sure they'll make money. Just not that much.

Good to hear, I'm the same way. I see it as a news site (and I like that) trying too hard to be a social network.

I do understand the reason though. And yeah, the listing of sources (+1000 in a list that must be refreshed) validates these "news" sources... but wasn't the job of vetting links using the Digg portal the goal of the community, or have we moved past that?
I mean I get the whole redesign for the sake of speed... I get that.
BTW, if I keep hitting the "x" next to all the advertisements, will they eventually just go away for me altogether?

R.I.P. digg.labs (http://www.mixthenet.com/the-awesomeness-of-digg-labs/)
digg.com removed from bookmarks, its had a nice place up there on firefox for half a decade.
so effing sad.
now kevin is talking about ditching diggnation, alex is going to get married and do his own thing probably, hes been throwing hints out there and im speculating he'll depart from diggnation as well and stick with TRS (hopefully)
diggnation... more like RUINEDNATION
i just hope none of this nonsense spills over onto TRS
not mention digg.com has gotten so complicated, maybe im just getting old, but theres no simplicity anymore, too much social linking crap and its just a cluster'fudge'

I am not sure why everyone hates the new digg so much... Honestly I have been using it for years and rather like it now...
It's not the biggest deal. I do miss some of the old features, but when the hell did they say they are trying to be a social network? No, they didnt. They just said they wanted to incorporate an easier to see news from your friends that you trust with that task. Which entails social networking concepts that allow you to do that. Not a big deal guys, it is pretty chill in my opinion. I like the new sleek design, and I dig kevins ideas for the future of digg.. but idk everyone is freaking out about it everywhere. I am curious how low there site numbers are...
Sad to say.
Also, Kevin will be on other podcasts guys you will see him. It is a sad thing to see him leave Diggnation of course as it's the best podcast ever made (Debatable but not to many many ppl). Anyway.. let's all try to embrace change and remember that the future always holds a more interesting place than the past.
I hope you all will tell me why you hate the new design? Other than just to have ur hater pants on for a few mins.

Same here. I used Digg to take advantage of others (non-friends) scouring the internet to find funny and interesting things, and showing them to me. Now that they're going friend-based, it just reminds me why I don't have or want friends. With friends, you have to care about what they think, e.g. "Hey I thought this was funny, look at it." You may not find it funny, but it would be rude to tell them it wasn't funny, and that they just annoyed you and wasted your time. It's a needless complication to your life. Digg was great without it.

You have to admit that Reddit pwning the front page of Digg is rather amusing.
To me it's obvious who the genuine fans are.

Have you seen the front page bro? It's littered with stories with as little as 20 diggs.

I thought it was just me so I started another thread looking for help on how to fix my settings so that I would have posts with more than 1 Digg. I'm not the most tech savvy person around so I figured I had messed up my front page lol!
I quoted the above post because that is exactly why I use Digg!. I already have family and friends clogging my email and Facebook accounts with their brand of humor and interests. Digg was a fresh breath of air that introduced me to interesting news and funny stories, that by myself, I would have never known existed. Kind of feel like someone passed by and boarded up my little window to the world. :(

Digg users like to say that Digg is screwing them over. But in all actuality it just seems that Digg users are stubborn and don't like to change.

I have been a digg user every day for a few years, and I hate hate hate the new version of digg. It used to be the best of anything and everything popular on the internet everyday, now its just a load of shit. User submitted is where its at, not submitted by publishers, auto submital of stories is a bad idea just makes it easier to spam the fuck out of digg. I am no longer a daily digg user, I will check back in a few weeks and if its still jacked I will be gone for good.
RIP DIGG
You will be missed.

Give it a rest.
Revision3 and Digg are not the same place. You might as well be ranting on Reddit (hmm, that might then get posted to the front page on Digg, and someone might pay attention).
Take it up with the folks over at Digg.
